I have a bix of those somewhere
I saw these for sale last night on ihavanas for the first time in awhile. $600 for a box of 25, though, which is a touch higher than I recall paying for them.
Last time I bought a box of 25 I paid $385, comes out to just under $16 per. Still sitting on 18 of them I believe.I saw these for sale last night on ihavanas for the first time in awhile. $600 for a box of 25, though, which is a touch higher than I recall paying for them.
That said, they are gone now.
Yeah, I bought heavily in 2020 and early 2021. Glad I did.Last time I bought a box of 25 I paid $385, comes out to just under $16 per. Still sitting on 18 of them I believe.
At these prices, I’m going to have to smoke Cubans a little more sparingly. Crazy thing is I’ve seen them for even more on some of the other sites I look at from time to time.
HdM Epicure #2s on Montefortuna are $555 for a box of 25.Just crazy!
Yes, makes pretty good sticks from what I have had.Anyone heard of Ernesto Pérez-Carrillo’s Cosecha de Oros?

2500, I believe.I've only got a flush. How many posts do I need to make the nuts?
Super new to cigars, but how does the intersection of $3-4 and premium cigars work out?As much as I smoke, I target $3-$4 premium cigars online. I think like it's RHC vs THC vs IHC. RHC can be pretty damn good most of the time and suffice. Chips tend to last longer than cigars though. My damn cigar habit is > my chip habit, else I could have purchased 2000 IGs.

Also, how many is a lot?
I find that cigars tend to improve in quality very linearly with price until you get above the $15-20 range when often it’s marketing gimmicks ramping price and you have to be careful about why you’re spending so much.Super new to cigars, but how does the intersection of $3-4 and premium cigars work out?

Gurkha is an example of a brand that uses marketing to sell sticks at high prices that don’t have justifiable reasons for their prices.I find that cigars tend to improve in quality very linearly with price until you get above the $15-20 range when often it’s marketing gimmicks ramping price and you have to be careful about why you’re spending so much.
A $6-8 stick will be better than a $3-4 stick, but I don’t think there’s a specific cutoff I know of to call “premium.” At low costs (less than $15), the cigar industry is pretty similar on margin along the way and there will be reasons a stick is $10 instead of $5. Gurkha is an example of a brand that uses marketing to sell sticks at high prices that don’t have justifiable reasons for their prices.
In my opinion there’s no reason to spend more than $20-25 on almost any Nicaraguan stick. It won’t be better than an Alma Fuerte Salomon, Arturo Fuente Shark, or LFD Bull and those can all be had around there.
On the term “premium” I would only ever call long filler cigars “premium” and you start to get short filler stick when you buy bundle cigars at the $1-3/stick range.
More ramblings:
In general I’ve been taught and understand the that there are four (marketing) streams of cigars:
- Heritage: old world brands run by long family lineages, well-established, often originally Cuban. Examples: Arturo Fuente, Padron
- Boutique: the craft beer of the cigar world, small operations doing creative stuff. Examples: RoMa Craft, Dapper
- Bundle: sometimes short filler, usually unbanded and unboxed, sold in bundles for cheep. Examples: Drew Estates Factory Smokes, Schizo
- Infused: Sticks that have any ingredient other than tobacco, these can be flavored all throughout or just on the tip. Notably these are looked down on by cigar snobs but are far and away some of the most sold cigars in America. Examples: Acid, Isla del Sol
Oliva V is I think a great example of the opposite of Gurkha. It’s a huge line with a really big variety of blends and vitolas and thus of prices and I think when you get into the detail of it, a lot is really well justified.Gurkha is an example of a brand that uses marketing to sell sticks at high prices that don’t have justifiable reasons for their prices.
Nailed it. I've thought that since they first came out. I have a friend that buys a lot of them. He's their ideal target audience. Some are ok, but most are not (to me).
I've found $3.50 to $4 Oliva Vs, Masterblend III, various AJ Fernandez's, Alec Bradley Prensado/Lost Art and some other great sticks online. You have to be patient.

I’ve found for instance that you can get Serie V Colorado robustos around $0.40/stick cheaper than the Maduro robustos. To me the maduros are easily worth paying that extra for and comparing the two I readily understand the price difference.

Check out CigarBid too. I watch it regularly and you almost always can get decent prices and occasionally get some outstanding dealsYou need to subscribe to online retailers for sales and also do some searching on your on. Some gems I've found were not advertised, but can be a lot of work hunting, much like a craigslist or eBay chip hunting.
A lot? Well, let's say this. I ended one at 3am and just fired one up for a 9:30 am conference call. Makes work relaxing. I honestly try not to count or do the math on purpose. When I'm down to around a box and half, I consider myself out.
Agree 99.9% on Ghurkha…. Except their Cask Blend is my favorite cheap cigar! Can regularly get on CigarBid around $3 perGurkha is an example of a brand that uses marketing to sell sticks at high prices that don’t have justifiable reasons for their prices.
