Better than this one?

Interesting how many of these are 814s - I don’t think I’d noticed any of them before, aside from the grand casino Gulfport.
I’d love to get the lowdown on how all this worked. I mean possibly they all come from one single guy who was designing chips for Paulson, right?

In the case of AC chips, I think they had to use the same spot patterns on the same denominations across casinos. At least with the early clay chips they did.

A bit tardy with my nomination, but I wanted to make sure this one made it in the list.

Horseshoe mold with horseshoe spots for the Horseshoe. Just a solid chip from an old historic Vegas casino.
I'll sneak it in. About ready to fire up some voting. Here's the photos I have so far:

I've no idea how to handicap this one at all. I think the hot stamps are toast, and any house molds. But I could be wrong.

New rule. RHC chips will be included only if there is space, which there usually is. I don’t think there is an RHC chip yet that has done well in any of my 15+ contests so far. They are largely a waste of time.

I thought you did a $500 poll FDL but don't see it. Surprised no one posted these yet..

Great choices. I expected at least 2 or 3 of those to get posted, so I'm glad they finally did.

According to Larry Eastman who wrote the first book on CA chips the Derby Gran chips were indeed used in Porterville at a place called Rumors ironically enough. When I said I had heard that rumor for years he said he was actually INSIDE the place and saw them in play. Maybe tournaments or the like but they were in play. Not sure if there was a licensing issue and that's why you never hear of this place...but that's my guess. Many times these card rooms start with out official licensing going through and get chips wherever they can just to get the games going. Gamblers General Store would press up chips for you in any design you would like and were just a quick jaunt from many of these CA cardrooms. Brass Elephant and The Dog House Bakersfield come to mind. The owners of Rumors could have easily loaded up on Paulson Store chips just to get started. The attribution that these chips were made for a place in Peru is absurd since they use Soles not Dollars.

So IMHO Derby Gran back on the board. :)

So a place that isn't in chipguide, called Rumor, acquired and used chips meant for a place called Derby Gran? I'm still going with no.

And plenty of foreign chips are denominated in dollars, since dollars are a stable currency. Peru has several.

LOL fair enough your contest. Just telling you what I heard from one of the leading experts on CA chips but hey go with your gut.

As i stated the chips were sold by Paulson in their retail stores and then bought by Rumors to run some games. Just like the other clubs I listed who bought their chips at retail and not directly through Paulson for whatever reason. Licensing and Money probably the main contributors.

BTW...the CA card rooms listed in CG account for less than a half of the cardrooms that were ever in existence. CG is FAR from the be all end all of CA card room listings.

As I have run these contests, it never once occurred to me that an establishment would ever have used chips that weren’t theirs or that they didn’t order - that’s like chip security 101. Your research and facts are immaculate as always, I have no doubt. It’s just that if Jimmys Card Room went out and got some Jack Detroit chips or Paulson Pharaohs, I still can’t bring myself to call them Casino chips.
