I wonder if Paulson has ever considered making home chips with an identifying "home chip" rfid or something similar, and selling them at $3 a pop?

Well, you never know... especially, when "it went totally crazy" and they might not be willing to let it go...

Last "official" story was that the home market "cheapened" the value of their chips. When the prices went crazy - that was pitching directly into Paulson's wheelhouse. Publicly selling chips to the retail market is not directly beneficial to Paulson.
