If anyone ever asks for your help to move an air hockey table, tell them you died. You will be dead by the time you are done moving it!!!

After getting some really outrageous quotes for staining about 350 feet of split rail fencing, I splurged on this Graco TC Pro cordless paint sprayer:

I used a Ben Moore solid stain to match my house color. On the plus side, the color is perfect, and the actual spraying went really fast. (Cutting in by hand around the hardware on four gates… not so much).

The bummer with using this is that cleanup is a real PITA. I did the spraying in sections over several days, and each cleanup session took a good 30 minutes. You really have to be thorough to get all traces of paint out of the system. And even being super careful, paint/stain inevitably gets on the gun requiring painstaking removal unless you’re OK with it looking like crap afterward.

Not a cheap purchase (over $500) but I still saved a lot by not contracting this out.

I couldn’t find anyone who sold the “bare” tool without the batteries and charger, since I already have a ton of Dewalt batteries. That would have been a savings but I can use them for other tools too. Not having a huge extension cord trailing me around such a long fence was a big plus.

My gf salvages a lot of vintage furniture and sometimes silkscreens designs on them, so instead of just reselling this to recoup some cost we’re gonna try it on some dressers etc.

There are much, much cheaper brands on Amazon etc. but Graco seems to be the industry standard and more reliable/less disposable than most alternatives I read about.

P.S.: Do not even think of spraying stain in even a light breeze. Fucked around/found out

Oh, and then there’s the story of selecting the “ship to store” option for Lowe’s, which I normally wouldn’t use but had a much earlier delivery date…

The thing was supposed to arrive on a Friday, so I could start this last weekend. I’m feverishly tracking it, PCF-style.

I see Friday morning that it departed a facility about an hour away at 6 am. So it should be arriving on time, yay!

I wait until 11 am to go in, knowing it takes a bit to log in/process shipments.

Dialogue with huffy young woman at the service counter:

TAGH: Hi, I’m here to pick up a Graco TC Pro I ordered online

HYW: We don’t carry those in-store

TAGH: … Right, so I ordered it from the website to be picked up here

HYW: [makes face] What’s your name? [I give it; she taps a bit on her terminal] Yeah I don’t see anything in our system

TAGH: Here’s a printout of the order number and my phone number

HYW: [much more tapping] That’s not here yet. You’ll have to wait until you get an email

TAGH: OK, but I know it left the terminal and hour north of here at 6 am. Maybe it’s in back and just hasn’t been processed yet? I’m really hoping to get going on this work with it

HYW: It’s not showing anything you have to wait for the email

TAGH: Huh, well, I’m gonna go back there and see if I can talk with someone

HYW: No you can’t go back there

TAGH: I’m not going to go *in* the back, I’m going to find someone who *works* back there who can help.

HYW: Sir! Sir! You can’t do that!

TAGH: K bye

[I find a guy standing outside the warehouse/delivery areas. He says sure, I think that truck came in, let me see if I can find it]

[He quickly finds it, gives me a receipt, and I triumphantly parade the sprayer past the fuming Huffy Young Woman]

As in all but the most basic games, you have to evolve with your sport. And in tennis, that means keeping up with racquet and string technology, which means you have to upgrade both every five years or so, and adapt your aging strokes.

This month's challenge is the Gamma Razr 117 Bubba, with Luxilon 4g-soft strings, in search of more power and less stress on a 77-year-old arm and shoulder. The first day, I made it through only three games before reverting to my old Head Speed PWR 115 with hybrid Luxilon ALU Rough mains and TNT Pro 17 crosses; yesterday I made it all the way through the match with the newbies. Today we shall see.

It doesn't always work out, as my closet full of old racquets will attest...

OK -- I guess I don't know! What does this stuff do that isn't accomplished by oil and an oven?

Boy, this sounds like pure BS, especially the parts about "before its first use" and "adding flavor".

I wasn’t trying to be cryptic. Just implying that my purchase was really the Blackstone griddle itself.

Finally upgraded the printer. Man, this thing is night and day with the piece of junk I had before. More than twice as fast to print stuff, better quality, and I don't have to fiddle with configurations nearly as much. Multicolor printing is sweet too.
