I got some planar magnetic headphones a while back which were severely underpowered by the Dragonfly Black DAC/AMP I had plugged into the computer. Finally upgraded to a Schiit Stack Modi/Magni combo.

With an output of 1.6 W RMS per channel into the headphones I thought it would be overkill but ordered anyway to future proof the setup. I have the volume turned up halfway and have found that to be the sweet spot.

Looks like Schiit

SMSL and a lot of other brands have really put out good stuff the past few years.

There's definitely a lot of options out there. I looked at the FIIO K5 Pro, Topping E30/L30, IFI Zen DAC/CAN, and a couple of other highly suggested brands but for cost effectiveness I felt Schiit hit where I wanted it to (200-300 bucks, good quality and good enough power output). Pretty happy with the purchase :) The added power and clarity from the processing really brings out individual notes/instruments and adds more depth to the bass. I'm going to spend most of today going back and listening to my favorite songs.

I was looking at the Schiit Hel for a while but glad I didn't go that route because I may have still craved more power output.

Indeed. I need a new DAC and AMP or combo. There's a few options but I never understand why more of these units don't have an easy front toggle switch to select between speakers and headphones. Pisses me off to no end, especially when most of these units are for desktop use.

Don't most of them automatically turn off the speaker outputs if you plug in headphones? That's how this setup works at least.

Since I upgraded my Home Theater Receiver in the basement when we first moved in 2018 to a Marantz that could take 4K signals and had support for Dolby Atmos my old Yamaha HTR which is still great hasn't been doing much in my office. It was mostly used as a radio as I sometimes listen to Sports Radio when I work from home in the office.. I felt for my Birthday it was time to clean up the office and get my Yamaha working as it should again. I scrapped the idea of getting a firearm as I got a 1911 for my last birthday.

1. I got a Pro-Ject Essential II Digital turntable which has the connection for Digital Optical Out and RCA. I used the RCA connection for the more old school Phono sound. I just set it up tonight and it sounds great. The Pro-Ject is easy to setup, but if you are just getting back into Vinyl like me you should watch a youtube video on it as it has parts the manual doesn't really show you how to setup and I had no idea what they were for. The Onkyo CD Player below that I had since the fall and it is a great CD Player for the price.

2. Also picked up this Polk PSW10 Subwoofer which came today. I wasn't looking to break the bank so I got this because it had good reviews and the price was great. I didn't hook this up yet because I realized I didn't have the Y RCA Subwoofer Cable I needed. It was ordered from Amazon and should be here on Sunday.

3. The Console Table we got from Wayfair which holds everything is absolutely Great so far. I set it up today and it was a super easy set up. All the materials are nice as the Wood shelving is pretty thick and the framing and support of the table is metal. It looks great. The other thing which was perfect is if you see from the wall to the door it is 100% the perfect width.

4 Last but not least here are the first two Vinyl Albums I got. The Police and Guns N' Roses both sounded great.

Any UK members got a Sky Glass TV?

Went into the Sky TV store today to check prices and couldn't quite believe the deal I got: I've been on the really old Sky box (pre Sky Q technology) with Sky Sports and Entertainment for £75 a month and have been using my standard 42" LG TV; turns out a 55" Sky Glass TV with exactly the same channels and a built-in Netflix account (which I'm paying £16 a month for) is only going to cost me £73 a month!

No-brainer. Being delivered on Friday.

Is this what people keep crypto on? Always want to know what to look for at estate sales
I know you are joking here but the way the devices work you have 3 tries to guess the numeric password. If you fail the device deletes itself and can only be reset with the 24 word key phrase that is the private key.

So really what you want to look for at estate sales are the little cards with 24 words on them. That could be gold.

If someone unwittingly sells you access to a crypto account are they really selling you the crypto though

Hmmmm….interesting philosophical question. Kind of similar to folks who buy chips at estate sales from folks who don’t know their value. I’d have to think it through more. If you buy a house and find hidden cash stashes, is it yours? Like all things I think the answer is “it depends”

Well it’s one thing to buy the chips, that’s legally fine for sure, no question you got sold the chips, the chips are yours. House with hidden cash is close but again hard to say that you stole that cash. I think closest thing might be getting sold the key to something. Maybe a bank safe deposit key was in a safe. Is that your deposit box now, along with all its contents? Not so sure about that

In the crypto world there is a saying “not your keys, not your coins”. The key is literally the asset. This was illustrated when coinbase disclosed in their recent SEC filings that in the event of bankruptcy any customer tokens kept on their site could be used to offset debts. Customers have to move their tokens off of coinbase to a cold wallet like a ledger to protect that from occurring.

I’d need to think about this more but the keys are extremely critical in the crypto space.

without your keys there is basically no way that you would be able to get into an account or wallet. That key and set of phrases is essential, hence why they always tell you to either write it down or take it down some how and place it in a place that you will remember that it is.
