It’s smart to invest in a backup generator. You don’t want that meat to go to waste.Picked up 1/3 cow today. Where’s the beef? The pig goes to slaughter next month and deer season coming up. Please don’t let the electric go out.

When I was still a wee lad, my Dad would often go to the commissary on base and stock up on meat there as the prices were much better than the normal grocery stores (at least at that time). We had a deep-freeze in the garage that this was kept in, along with frozen New Mexico Hatch green and red chile as well as other items. (We had lived in Santa Fe previously and had family friends still there who would send us bags of chile when in season that we would then roast and freeze).
The outlet for this was next to his radial arm saw and had to be unplugged to plug in the saw.
You know where this is going.
He comes home from work one evening and notices the garage smells a bit off, but pays it no attention. The next morning when he goes to work, still notices the smell but is in a rush and continues to work. That evening when he returns, he knows something is up and discovers a recent stock up and most of a 50 pound bag of chile at room temperature.
Had had forgotten to plug the freezer back in after using the saw.
A backup generator might not be a bad idea, especially if you are in an area that's prone to extended outages, but there's nothing better than making sure basic operator error doesn't bite and that outlet isn't used for anything else!
