I put this mixed set together on the cheap. Average price was about $0.80/chip

You can buy the $1s, $5, and $25, and buy the lucky derby $1s. Have @Gear make you $.25 labels and you have yourself a casino "micro" limit set. You may have to shave down any high spots in the LD$1s, and will need Gear's thinnest label, but will complete your goal and should be less than $1/chip total.

Just a thought,

Buy a used set of whatever is being offered at a good price; don't worry about what it is, just get it, consider it a deposit, and start playing.

Then sell the first set you got to get a refund on your deposit.

This is great advice.

If you can let go of them.

This was my original plan. Now I have close to 10k chippies.

Thank goodness for justsomedude and Warneke for the box gb.

That is where I got my orange LDs and the Garden City $5s. Got the $1s and $25s from Apache and others. And the rest from peeps selling in the classifies. The $100s cost me more than $1/chip but averaged out, it was still about $0.80/chip for the set. And getting used, and not mint, chips helps with my anxiety of people shuffling and splashing the pot.

Do you still have two kidneys?

Where do I sign?

...Looks like I got a pretty good lead on some 1's and 5's from a member to get me started. HS Cinncy's. So I'll likely be shutting this down and posting a thread Looking for quarters soon. The LD 1's don't do it for me... I see someone used argosy .50c, and some LD 2's.... gonna keep looking around a bit. The Garden City 5 could work...

Thanks to everyone for the help so far! This place is awesome, exactly the enabling I'm looking for....

I’m trying to get a return on my Chinese investments right now. Was able to sell the Yaks and the CPS chips immediately but having trouble with Scrolls and Majestics.

Unlike a bank or stocks, you have to wait for demand I guess. Someone will roll along eventually. I hope...

That advice was based in the notion of buying used Paulsons, though!

The supply is fixed; the demand is well-established.

It's not the same with Scrolls and Majestics... they're a ceramic and a China clay, both of which types are being produced for retail, today, and can be bought new from several resellers. You need to be selling at a substantial discount to new to sell them used, when affordable new ones are easily at hand.

Another example: Matsui hundo plaques. Those things were hot, hot, hot. IMHO, the only reason individuals selling theirs are not getting more than $20 a plaque is because Apache is selling them, new, for $19 each. I'm not complaining, mind you - I'm glad I can buy a set any time for $19 each! But I also understand that, no matter how much people like them, the price won't appreciate while they're in production and there's a supplier who can profitably bring us more.

I think it is not a good idea to mix SCV mold and RHC mold... But that is only my Meaning...;)

This is my lack of experience showing through, do they feel drastically different? Look very different in person?

i thought you wanted to keep cost at "bargain basement" levels? :ROFLMAO:

I’m not even sure how much these cost, lol, but they are a live chip so I imagine are gonna be cheaper than any real 0.25 frac.... lol, you know the routine here, it’s very easy to climb the ladder.

To the untrained eye, no. I think even the majority of casino goers don't notice the difference. But once you start messing around with chips like the folks here, you'll be able to see, feel, and hear the differences blindfolded. That's why the first advice given to everybody is to get samples, to see what you like.

I think the colors look great. For mixed sets, I don't mind mixed molds in the slightest.

These chips would be free, if he takes a trip there... Just a $1 deposit until they're returned. The only thing he's buying is the labels!

Well my budget says those Paris chips are ugly, back to the drawing board on a frac.

Those Paris $1's are too beautiful to put a label on anyways!!!

There are a ton of used chips that can be found for a reasonable price to label as a 25c chip.

This thread made me find the Cincy chips and put together a little 400 chip cash set :) Must..resist.... I would be re-using the quarters I made with Cleveland $2.50's though...

Yep gotta keep hunting. Way more dough than I remembered. I’m dizzy with the amount of threads I’ve read in a month.

nope.. wrong mold and too nice and expensive of a chip to relabel..

You are right.

What’d you go with and from where?!

I've got a set of micro ChipCo classics that I was about to put up for sale. I don't know if you would have interest in ceramics, but they are a really pretty set. I don't have pictures of the set at the moment (and I'm on a business trip until Tuesday), but let me know if you are interested. In the meantime: http://www.21ace.com/Chipco-Poker-Chips.php

500x total chips (I think the breakdown is):
100x $0.05
100x $0.10
100x $0.25
75x $0.50
75x $1
30x $5
20x $10

Don't know if you are looking to go THAT micro, but they are always fun to have small cash games with. People get a lot of chips :).

Thanks! But I’m drinking the Paulson kool-aid at the moment.

I like the Garden City $5 chip base color for a $0.25 chip. For an alternative chip that you could relabel or even keep as-is, how about the medium/dark green Horseshoe Cleveland $25 to use as a $0.25. I haven't seen the HS Cincinnati $25s in person, but if they're a light enough green color compared to the HS Cleveland $25s, there might be enough contrast that they could work together in a set.

Another possibility is to use the HS Cinci $25s as $0.25c chips, and relabel some Garden City $5s as $25 or even as $20 chip. If you're running games where buy-ins, rebuys are commonly $20, $40, or $60, having $20 chips work well, and some PCFers prefer the $20 denom for small stakes cash games.

P.S. Full disclosure, I have 30 of the Garden City $5s pictured below, that I'd probably be willing to sell or trade, and I also have plenty of the HS Cleveland $25s, and would be willing to sell a rack.
