I’m looking to buy a recliner and thought I’d ask the forum what brands you would recommend. Budget $3000 and hoping it lasts the rest of my life. Prefer 100% manual operation and leather.

Unless you're of Scandahoovian heritage, La-Z-Boy all the way. My La-Z-Boy "Big Man" is approaching fifty years old and still going strong...
From what I gather, many online reviews said the quality has declined meaningfully in recent years. Wish I had bought one earlier! It’s the leaded THC of recliners

It’s getting harder finding manual ones. We went w a David chase and have been happy.

Hear me out, but a big fat comfy lift chair recliner, the kind you typically get at a medical supply store, is actually pretty awesome. Yeah they plug in to the wall. My wife needed one when she was having back issues with a pinched nerve, and that resolved itself, and it has been my chair ever since. We have a Golden. The back operates separately from the foot rest, and you've never had a better back stretch than when you put the foot rest all the way up and the back rest all the way down. $1000 should get you a pretty nice one. Maybe a little more. Bought mine several years ago for $700. Needed repair once, but it was covered by warranty. The supply warehouse we got it from came and got it, fixed it, and brought it back.

May be worth giving Flexsteel a look. The cost of a recliner varies based on whether you want full grain leather or split leather. Leather/vinyl match is another way manufactures keep prices low. Ask questions. Check the manufacturers warranty. That will tell you a lot about the quality/life expectancy of the furniture.

Salvage stores will buy recliners with minor imperfections or leftover odd pieces with discontinued leather coverings at a discount and pass those savings on to their customers. Shop your local furniture stores and find a leather you like. Avoid recliners manufactured overseas.

I’ll check it out, thank you!

Can you please provide a link? Or have a brand in mind?

I will take a look at Flexsteel, thanks! Why avoid overseas brands? Some seem to be highly regarded, like Stressless

I am unfamiliar with Stressless. Do they offer a manual recliner?

just purchased la-z-boy front room set. ordered all manual set-up no power
recliners. waiting for delivery

The brand name of my lift chair is Golden. If you want to try one out, find the largest medical supply showroom near you, they should have a bunch out. I doubt it is what you are looking for, but you never know, so I thought I would share. Plus somebody else might read the thread and think that is a good idea.

We recently had to replace our recliners after about 20 years and went with the same brand/model as before; The Beast from Best Home Furnishings. I can't say enough good things about these recliners, but if you are on the shorter side, you will get kind of lost in it. :ROFLMAO:
I am 6'5" and my wife is 5'9" and we love them!

Love the name! I hope to try it out soon

Looks like they have smaller models too. Assuming you got the Rake (funny name for this forum lol)

Agree that NC is the best for furniture. When I lived in NC i remember I had an awesome couch and it was relatively inexpensive. The problem is shipping furniture is so expensive...

Stressless are legit! They can get pricey pretty quick though - lol.

What did you buy
I went with an upgraded La-Z Boy despite the negative reviews. They were simply the most comfortable and I really think (and hope) that if you avoid the sub-$1000 chairs you’ll be getting a high quality product. I felt that the build was fine and the chair seemed durable enough when I was borderline rough with it in the store. I also tested some $4k-$5k chairs and yes, the craftsmanship and leather are superior but they weren’t nearly as comfortable. They sacrificed some function for form.

They’re stunning and would probably outlast my La-Z Boy, but I found the max reclined position to be quite awkward on the models with the ottoman, which would sit 4-6” below the main chair, adding pressure/stress to your legs. If the ottoman were better designed I would have went with this recliner. There was an option to add a lift to the ottoman, but then it would sit too high in the upright position.
