Won't be long with this post... I'm on the fence about getting a Shuffle Tech ST1000 but read a lot about how loud they are and jamming issues. I would not have it mounted in a cabinet or in the table. Is the sound noticeable and/or distracting if it's sitting on a side table? I am dedicated dealer & player. My wife is a dedicated dealer, non-player at a 2nd table for my 2TT every quarter.

Ultimate question... do I buy one or not.

I run one on a side table just on top, no special mount or custom box. If you have people chattering, music playing, or anything like a sports game on a nearby TV the noise will be masked more than enough not to bother most. Don’t use bridge-size cards as those lead to more noise.

As for jamming, I usually see only 1 jam requiring human intervention every 6 hours, which is good enough for me.

I’ve used it for a few sessions now and really have no problems with it.

I’ve had mine for a year now. No issues with it. I mounted it inside a box. Noise isn’t really an issue either with a little music and table talk.

If you're only going to use 4 times/year it's not going to be worth it.
It might not be worth it to you given your current financial situation (@Rakrul), but the OP might have arthritis or maybe he’s missing a thumb. Or maybe, he has the money to spend. Do you have an alternative solution to offer than a Shuffle Tech or is your post just intended to make him feel guilty or stupid?

To the OP, buy whatever you want. It’s your money - weigh all the pros and cons first.

We play a single table cash game every month that I deal. We would use it then as well. I'm the dedicated dealer each month and would use the shuffler. My wife uses 2 decks, and shuffles the back-up mid hand while dealing the 2nd table at our quarterly 2TT.

Our games last about 4 hours on a monthly basis. Sounds like more positive experiences than negative ones. I just wanted an update, since a lot of the posts I was seeing were at least a year old.

BBO has them for $650, any hesitations on buying from them as opposed to directly from ST?

As long as it's comes with the manufacturers warranty. It's over $100 now to get it fixed if & when you send it back out of warranty. The good news is only takes about 10 days to get it back.

I love mine & will never go back!!

Jesus, you went straight to the trenches on that one.

I was trying to help him. He's on the fence for what seemed a quarterly game asking for opinions. He got mine. And that obviously triggered you for whatever reason. Good luck with that.

It’s a loud machine. Plenty of people don’t mind, or have gotten used to it, or think it’s worth the tradeoff, or have them insulated.

But if the question is “is it noticeable on a side table,” the answer is an unqualified YES. If the question is “is it distracting,” that’s up to you, and the only way to find out is to play with one.

I run three of these, one for each of my tables for a weekly tournament, and everyone loves them. Yes they are a bit loud, but we have music playing and it just becomes part of background noise. Very rare issues with jamming. Strongly recommend from my side!

What kind of cards do you use? (I hear some brands are better than others)

Does anyone have any experience (good or bad) with either Fournier or Desjgn bridge size cards?

I've thrown a deck of Desjgn bridge into mine a couple times to see if it would work alright.

Shuffles as usual but the taller card size means there's more chance a card gets caught somewhere and bent due to the random nature of how the machine sends cards away and back to center.

Bridge cards do tend to make the shuffling process louder, unfortunately.
So some update after some more events.

I took a risk, and found that I actually didn’t have any increased noise or jamming issues with Angel PVC bridge cards, although something about them wasn’t tripping the ST1000’s shufflers correctly so the machine was splitting the deck into two very uneven stacks before riffling and stripping. Might be tolerable on the 7 setting plus an extra riffle from the dealer before the cut.

On the negative side I had some brand new Fournier EPT decks that resulted in a catastrophic repeating jam -> self-clear -> jam that if I had not caught it quickly would have resulted in a card being severely bowed or bent. Fortunately the jammed card is miraculously not marked after careful inspection, but that paused the game for a bit and was a surprise since the ST1000 had recently been cleaned.

This. Bitch is loud AF imo. Sounds like a damn popcorn machine at peak pop in your ear the entire night.

Have the FSX 4-colours which are super stiff, works really well. Jams are a quick fix or it corrects itself.

Agree on loud AF even in a side cart, I'm personally thinking of transferring it into some sort of insulated box since I don't use my side cart for storing chips any longer.

Read a thread last night by Napalm, because I am debating on buying one also. So search for his name. He posted on PCF two YouTube videos one with shuffle tech in the side cart with no insulation, it's loud. Then he posted a video with Dynamat that he insulated the side cart, and put some on the sides of shuffle tech itself also, 200% quieter imo. Only cost like $20 on Amazon , and side cart he linked $40 at ikea let me see if I can find it. stabdby

This is from Napalm post his words: I use the same cabinet. Instead of using pillows, I use a knockoff dynamat from Amazon and it works surprisingly well.

I lined the interior of the top, sides, door, insert, and the Shuffletech itself as well with the material (make sure you order the roller to help apply it). With the lid closed, it is surprisingly quiet compared to how loud it was when I just had it sitting open on a cart.

Maybe powerbank is the wrong word. I use one of these:

It easily lasts multiple sessions between charges. Each playing session is usually 10-12 hours long. It fits inside my cabinet and will run with it inside. But since my gaming sessions run a little long, I leave it on top of the cabinet during the longer plays to keep it from overheating. I've ran it for as long as an hour inside the cabinet without any overheating issues though.

That's what the inside of the cabinet looks like with the dynamat applied.

I just uploaded a couple of videos I took during the install of it shuffling before and after the dynamat install. The sound doesn't come thru very well in the video but there is a dramatic difference in person and you can hear it take some of the higher pitched notes away.

AFTER -

It's still rendering right now so it's at low-res until it processes.

The two videos wouldn't copy and paste, too new here to figure it out ha ha, Napalm on April 12, 2024 posted the two videos to show sound difference. I highly recommend watching them.

Hope this helps, of I only knew how to copy his thread ha ha
