So there are 2 things I want in life... a Tangiers set, and a color-matched Faux inlay on a Tina Hybrid. So will use this thread to document the attempt, and we'll see if it wildly fails!

So here's my theory... the below was sent off to Tina to create Hybrid chips and inlay stickers (which I believe they outsource the stickers). I'm thinking that there's a good chance we should be able to find some "color-matches" (e.g. Inlay B2 may match with Chip C1). There is always going to be some printing color variation run to run for both the inlays and chips.. but hope is the variation is small enough that the matched colors still look good.

Below is the initial tangiers set for reference/colors (although completely dependent on any "matches" found) .. will be doing spot colors as well - but open to any suggestions. Currently thinking about recreating stardust edge spot patterns for the most part though.

Edit - V3... still working edge spots/colors... going for a vintage feel. @Colquhoun will be owed for the tracing of the Tangiers logo

Very nice. But why solids. Its not like the edgespots cost more

I would like to own a Tangiers set someday too. Nice job so far and looking forward to seeing what you do with edge spots.

Only one gripe so far (if you care). Why did you do the $1 denom with the zeros while all the others are just the dollar value? It doesn't look right with the set as it is inconsistent. I think it would look better being consistent with the $5 chip and just having the larger dollar value.

Also, the "shaped" inlay on the frac and the $1 are very close. Maybe swap the shape of the frac and 500. That will break them up a bit in the lineup and give it a better overall flow.

Great start!! Looking forward to seeing where this goes.

Yeah, agree on the inlay with the frac. Likely will change out.

The $1 I tried to make it somewhat of an homage to the vintage Stardust $1 of the time (which is also the only chip I believe that has the 00), but may change up or make an alt.

It'll be interesting to see the chips with the spots on them. I think that's what's throwing me off right now.

I'm getting some Tina's made with some faux shaped inlays right now too so it'll be interesting to see how those turn out considering it's my first time doing them that way. I also tried to fill the space up as much as possible where if it isn't exactly 100% the perfect color, it'll be very minimal to notice.

I actually really like the inlay shape on the frac, it's not something you see everyday. I just think it needs to be moved away from the 1. Personally, I think swapping it with the 500 solves the problem.

Your explanation of the 1.00 makes sense and knowing that, now it doesn't bother me... lol

Playing with colors/spots on some, changed denom font, and trying out a background pattern. Like this better, but more work needed. Not sold yet on spots/colors... will keep toying.

Of course your next set had to be Tangiers... :) Absolutely love it - you've designed yet another beautiful set. Sure hope you're saving these for next month's GB :)

Edgespots

In my opinion the stars are too much and doesn't make much sense with the Tangiers theme. (I understand that you want to add elements of the Stardust.)

Yeah, I'll toss back/forth a bit. I like them with right now.. but I'm sure my tastes will change over the coming months a few times. Lol.. do have another thought though that I may try out anyway.

Will be a few months out minimum. Need to receive the sample chips, and then run a personal test first to see if we can match. But if it goes well, would open yes.

Chips look great!
Not sure where you got the logo, but that's not the one in the film. The other logo is fine, but I figured I'd offer the info.

I have the vector that I painstakenly traced from the screenshot, PM if interested:

Yeah... that does look better! Also changed removed background stars and went with red denom font.. closer!

I actually liked the faint stars to fill the white areas as a Stardust tribute, but it still looks good without them. The font change looks a lot better. Since you changed the denom to red, have you tried changing the Las Vegas to black? I think the small print in black will look better (and be easier on the eyes) to match the Hotel and Casino.. It would also highlight the Tangiers logo and denoms better with those only being in red. Just a thought..

Isn't it "only" a 20,000 minimum for a new mold? I'd be in for 1000. And the art fee would be negligible... @SeanGecko
Yeah, but I assume it would take months to fabricate the new mold as well even if we had orders.

Will plan on test set in web mold to see if we can do the color matching well and then can go from there. If we can get a color match working.. think demand might be there (or I might be willing to foot some of the bill).

I also personally don't charge art fees to be clear, try to keep all my chipping a hobby only. Ha

Good man. Hobbies are supposed to be enjoyable.

It’s about a month/2 months to make a new mold and then production time etc.

Love to see you not charging art fees! It makes this hobby fun and enjoyable for those that want to get what they can at an affordable rate.

Need a favor/curious.. let's say hypothetically a custom Tangiers mold was funded, any preference on mold size?

I'm torn, but leaning 39 to stay true to the homage aspect.

 = 39 or 43mm
:cool = 39mm only
:wow: = 43mm only
 = screw a custom mold. Web mold all day.
