Texas Flood Poker Club - Attempting my first chip & label design (3 Viewers)

I hate when a major post ends up at the bottom of a page. So I'm going to repeat my previous post again here:

Texas Flood has sat dormant for way too long. It's time to bring this project back to life. In the 9 months since I last posted an update to the label design I have been trying to procure all the chips I will need for this set. But I ran into a few roadblocks along the way. It's damn hard to put together a cohesive set of casino used chips. All the chips I have seem to be of different barrel heights and that has me on tilt. As much as I love some of the chips I bought, I just don't think this set is going to come together. At least not now.

So what do you do when you come to a roadblock? You find a detour! And in my case, I think that detour is that Texas Flood with the SRV inlay is going to go on a custom CPC set instead of leaded used THC chips!!!

The other big news for this set is that this week I believe my wife and I have located our new forever home. Fingers crossed or say a prayer for us, but we will submit an offer tomorrow and if we are able to purchase this home, then Texas Flood Poker Club will finally have a real home. This property has a huge detached building that will be perfect for hosting games, something I do not have in my current home.

Next step is to get back with John and finish up the INLAY!!! (not label) design. And then I need to figure out how many chips I will need. Updates on the property will be provided once we have a deal.

In the last 48 hours I've been feverishly working with the CPC chip design tool, and I think I have a pretty solid lineup drawn up. Some of you may have seen this in another thread. I do need to see what these will look like with John's artwork on them, and I will think on them a bit to be sure it's what I want, but for the moment I'm pretty darned happy with these. So without further ado, here they are!

Top row - nickel, quarter, dollar, and $5
Bottom row - $20, $100, and $500 (why not even though I'll probably never use it)

Here's some background on how I got to these designs. The THC set was originally going to be all 312 edge spots. Then it started to progress some and I considered some 3D14 and 3T316 chips. But all the chips continued to have spots in "threes."

I decided to (mostly) continue that trend as I created this new set in CPC. Here's what I wrote in the other thread when I posted my first iteration of these designs.

Top row represents a nickel, quarter, and two different $1 chips.
The nickel reminds me of one of my favorite all-time chips - The Binions WSOP T25. Also, since the set will not have a $25 chip, why not use green for a frac? I love quarter pie fracs, and my favorite colors for a 25 cent chip are blue and pink. So why not one with both? For the $1 - sorry boys, but I don't like white as a base color, and I definitely don't like the standard CPC "sorta" white. Blue is already taken, and I have another set I like with a grey $1. The darker one almost gets me into the "black dollar" club, but the lighter one might work better since most of my base colors are dark in this set. (Note - I later modified the grey/charcoal $1 to canary yellow)

Bottom row
is the $5, a $20 (I'm club $20) a $100, and just for fun, why not design a $500 that will NEVER get put into play? :ROFLMAO::ROFL: :ROFLMAO::ROFL: :ROFLMAO:
I'm a traditionalist when it comes to $5s. Strong preference for red. Happy to get feedback on which red is best, but based on the design tool, I like the look of the Mandarin Red. (changed this to Retro Red)
Lavender and Arc Yellow are my preferred colors for a $20, so this one gets some of both. And like with the $5, I'm also traditional about my $100 being black. Since most of my spot patterns are in threes, I went with six on the hundo. The six spot colors are the base colors for each of the lower denomination chips, including both colors from the quarter pie. (the six different colors was reduced to three colors as it was suggested that it looked like a "clown" chip. I agree that this one is better)
For the $500 I think I like yellow. Since I won't make many (if any) of them, spot level is unimportant. This one seems like a reasonable progression from the $20. (had to change this up after using yellow on the $1. )

Looks great! I slightly prefer #2 - a little more contrast bt the chip and label, and the use of a subtle gradient and some white space appear a little cleaner to my eye.

^^ I agree with above. Choice one looks good enlarged, however, choice two looks the best when shrunk down to actual size.

Saying a prayer for you, bro. Good luck and let us know how all goes with the new joint!

I'm liking the line up and must admit, am happy to see a trimoon ! ATM my rude mood saloon lineup includes a trimoon too.

Love that hundo! Big fan of 614A

You should throw the inlay into the design tool to get a better idea of how they look

Yes! So happy to finally get a positive comment on the hundo. It's the chip I've spent the most time on and the one that gotten the most criticism. Some of it justified. I think I have it fixed right now.

Have you tried some different colors for the $1 moon spots? The only thing I'm not sure about is whether you're missing an opportunity to go for a bit more contrast between the pink and tiger? Just mocked up a couple of ideas for the sake of it. It's probably just me, I like to keep as much contrast as I can if using tri colors. So many options. This is why I still haven't ordered CPCs  :ROFLMAO:

Possible. But I do love DG colors and want to use them all. I am thinking I will switch regular pink on the quarter pie to DG pink, which then leaves that DG pink spot on the $1 open to change. Could put the regular pink there, or one of your suggestions. I do like the one with retro green! Thanks!

One big goal is to not duplicate any colors, other than what I'm doing with the $100.

Why not throw what you have in for now? Even if it’s just the $20 in each
John sent me the files today that I needed to put my inlay on the chips. So here ya go!

Originally (for my THC set) I had planned to use the inlay with full bleed all the way to the edge. I liked it best on chips with just one or two colors. But when I saw it on these chips, I didn't like it as well. Just thought there was a bit too much going on. I had a design on the previous page with a fade to white, but I didn't like it either. Too much fade. So I asked John to create a new one with less fade, and he came through.

Everyone agree on the fade to white? Any more suggestions? Also I had decided to change regular pink on the quarter pie to DG Pink, and then I took the suggestion from @doakwolf to add a bit of contrast to the $1 tri-moon by replacing DG Pink there with Retro Green. I think I like it! Thanks bud!

Fade to white 100%

I might have to steal your black chip color/spot combos for a future chip. :ROFLMAO:
After all the grief I got about the $100 chip back in the CPC design thread, NOW everybody likes it! Oh, forgot to mention that I rotated the spots on that one. I did have the yellow up and down. I like it better horizontal.

Thats a lot of yellow. CSQ orders had to be in last month, so you might have a 8-12 month wait. Sometimes it depends on when they have to make more Rounders stock.

New design? You know I’m a fan of the original. This looks solid as well.

Received these from @Johnny5 today. As usual, he knocked it out of the park!!!

Quick explanation as to why there is such a wide array of denominations, and why there is both a $20 and a $25.

  • First, I only started playing poker regularly about 4-5 years ago. I only played with family and very inexperienced friends. So ALL my cash sets have nickel chips. I love to have an informal game with friends and family where we can play all night long and nobody wins or loses more than $50-60, and typically much less.
  • Currently my favorite stakes are 25c/50c. I still like to keep buy-ins and rebuys low - usually $40 buy in with rebuys in $20 increments. For these stakes, I prefer that my high value chip is a $20 rather than a $25.
  • I'm moving soon to what I hope will be my final home through retirement. As I play more and more regular poker, there is no telling what stakes I might get comfortable with in the near future. Since I've put a lot of thought and love into this design, I want the set to grow with me as I grow. For my first order I will purchase a set that is heavy on 25c, $1 and $5 chips. I'll have a rack or so of $20s, 3-5 barrels of $100s, and a barrel of $500s just for fun! Initially I will skip the $25s.
  • Later on, if my games grow, I know that the bigger games play better with $25s. I would rather have all my chips produced in the same run, just to avoid any color variations that can occur with add-ons. So a later order for two racks of $25s, and more $100s could be placed. I'm less worried about color variations on a black chip than with most of the other colors.
  • Some notes on colors: Green nickel and green $25 will never be in play at the same time
  • There is a lot of yellow/peach/ark yellow. I don't think it will cause any major dirty stack issues due to the wide variation in base colors and the chips that will be on the table together. But feel free to comment.
That's it. This is Texas Flood Poker Club. Comments are welcome, but I suspect this is pretty darned close to a final design. Now I just have to wait out the next CSQ run. Hopefully these will be in play sometime in 2024.

I may be jumping the gun on this one, but I'm pretty sure this should finally tally a win in the "green chip best chip" thread for that $25. Also love the inlay and name; Stevie is the GOAT!

Have you thought about limit?
What's to think about??? How boring it is? :ROFLMAO:  :ROFLMAO:  :ROFLMAO:

Sorry, couldn't resist. I'm OK with pot limit, but I don't really care for limit poker. I probably just don't know how to play it correctly. And I know it doesn't require EIGHT denominations!

Honestly, any poker is better than no poker. I've played a little limit with circus games (one particular game, but I don't remember which one it was) at a meetup. Otherwise, yeah, I like small to medium stakes NLHE and PLO best. And starting to get comfortable with a few other pot limit circus games.
