Hi All

last i heard was that the chip room was moving. Now i hear rumours that its just dissappeared.

Please... Someone, let me know what has happened.

I cant live in a world without a chip room.

someone on big blue was in contact with him. his email still works just the site is down. he had a delay getting the last chips he bought from puerto rico. (i think that is where they came from) so he is still in the game.

A real scenario is personal issues have changed his game. I just hope he is doing ok

When I spoke to Jim last a month or two ago he said he's still in business and has deals in the works but that they take time and he's had a few that have fallen through too. He didn't renew the website because it wasn't worth the cost when PCF and CT are where he sells everything.

who needs a website when he sells out pre-sales on CT and PCF, no need for a website if you never have stock

Websites cost like $15. Less it they find a willing host that would just piggyback on another domain.

Step 1: Ask @Tommy to host the ChipRoom at Chiproom.Pokerchipforum.com

Step 2: Give Tommy 48 hour advanced sales.

If Tommy didn't want to host it, I certainly would. I have my own domain, but no revenue from ad banners. Chances are, I would go broke with the advance sales.

The thing that costs money is not the domain hosting, its the online eCommerce store itself. A quality online eCommerce store by volusion/godaddy/etc can run up to $1000-3000/ year which is what he said made it not worthwhile to have it. My companies eCommerce online store runs us about $2000 a year and then you have to factor in maintaining the store. Inventory on the store, product updates, SEO, etc and it really ads up. Totally makes sense that he would just stick to PCF and CT for his sales.

Maintaining the website is just good for keeping his name out there. If I were a defunct casino preparing to sell off my assets, I may be interested in making sure that the person I'm going to deal with is competent and will come through with the big bucks. A website makes the Chip Room look like an actual business.

I know eCommerce can get pricey (though I've never heard of anyone hitting $3000/yr), but if he's running low volumes, he shouldn't ever be paying more than a buck a day. However, some of my info may be old, and I would be best to defer to @Mrs Poker Zombie if Jim were actually interested in maintaining a web presence, as she runs a couple of smaller web stores.

Based on the things I have seen done in the classifieds and my own experience dropping money on this site, this site is a cash cow for someone with a nice chip product.

Do you actually remember his old site? Not sure if that would help anyones business, it was pretty poorly done and maintained.

The thing is that he says he only sells half of the chips in his pre-sales. Without his Web site, how do we find out about the other half?

Jim, if you need a Web site for next to nothing in cost, some of us here can help you...

I'm a dev and would work for chips :)

This was the last one I remembered. The opening page alone basically screamed "Go away if you love nice chips". I don't fault Jim for the website. I only fault him for not handing it over to someone that enjoys websites.

I personally don't know about how many he puts up for sale on the pre-sales but I would imagine he'd sell all of his inventory of chips through our forums like he has in the past. I recall many threads where he'd have a smorgasbord of denominations of chips from previous pre-sales that he would sell whatever was leftover.

The product that Jim sells is unique and limited. His shelves would be empty more then they are full. I don't think it was worth the time and effort to maintain an online store when he can sell on the forums and eBay. The common everyday poker products are everywhere so most will find them on sites like Amazon with free shipping.

IMO, Apache (and a few others) stand out from the hundreds of other poker product sites because they offer unique stocked products in addition to the everyday type of items. Plus they put a face to the company by participating in the community.

Without Jim, it seems the door of bringing new casino chip sets to the collector market will be nearly closed. If he is no longer around, it would be devastating news to the chip enthusiast market.
