The Chip Room - Anyone know whats happened? (1 Viewer)

The Chip Guide only shows one set (in post #60). Maybe they have a secondary set of minty fresh chips in the vault.

I'm more or less completely out of chip collecting (and even poker in general), but it's good to read some lines from Jim here. In the recent years I bought tons of mint Bahamias, Aztars and Grand Vics from him and it was always great and an absolute pleasure to deal with him. Never was a chip damaged or got lost on its long way from the US to Germany and communication really could not have been better!

For all those enthusiasts (and of course for Jim's business) I really hope we will see some spectacular sales in the years to come: THC! Mint Secondaries! Shaped Inlays! Custom Dealer Buttons! You know, all this stuff ...

I sincerely hope Jim starts posting his chip offerings here, where the majority of his interested clients hang out. CT is for all purposes dead and buried, has an oppressive ass-hat owner, and not everybody here has access to that site (or wants it).

I've bought thousands of chips from Jim. I hope that doesn't come to an end because of access issues.

Ah, Greektown -- my favorite quarter of all time, until Puggy's Colony Clubs came along. Maybe mine will become hotly pursued collector's items....

If I'm Jim I wouldn't want to sell my wares on a site that was poorly maintained and (from a web hosting standard perspective) frequently unavailable and/or inoperative. I think Jim should make his primary releases here as it's the de facto site for new chip enthusiasts in the community.

In my time of lurking I saw two legit chiproom sales. Since joining nothing. I've been kicking myself for not jumping on the Even Stevens, but if the Greektown happens it'll be worth it.

When I access the other site from my office pc, Sophos tells me that the site is riddled with malware - sometimes it even blocks access to the site! Needless to say, I rarely visit that site now.

As a Detroit area guy I would not be too excited about Greektown chips. My guess is nasty, smoky, rounded wafers. Of the three Detroit casinos it is third in most every category.

Phew

I can now put down my paper bag i was using to deal with hyperventilating.

And seriously Jim i have compleatly given up on CT. Greg cant be found and he sent letters to people including me with promises that he will get back involved with the site. i kept posting there for a few months after that and Greg diddnt hold up his part of the bargain.

Just a whole lot of empty promises.

Honestly Jim CT is not dead... Its just Brain dead on life support and greag doesnt seem to give a damn. its just sad really. There was a time where it was the place to be. but now its a ghost town.

I gave up on CT about Oct/Nov 14 when the site was down for over a week. Everyone migrated over here.

I know Jim's sales will attract attention wherever they are posted but it would make more sense for them to be here as this is where the active community is

I'd love to see the sales continue on CT. It's where thechiproom took off, and if Jim want to stay there I think that's great.

Although it seems I am one of the few that don't feel like Chiptalk is an old friend who had sex with my mother and posted it online.

If he feels that he wasn't getting his money's worth out of an online web presence, it's just a matter of time before he makes the same realization regarding paying for vendor status at CT. Minimal traffic makes it a low-return proposition, especially with a much more attractive option in PCF.

How does one get their hands on defunct casino chips like the GreekTown? I am new to this. I just talked to somebody who paid 22 cents apiece for Paulson casino chips after a rebranding. But I assume that you have to have some connections and that you have to buy in huge quantity. So for a group like this where you have a history of group buys - is there a way to connect to these chips and get them at a very attractive price?

I have never understood the venom either, but I didn't have as much history as some people with the site/community.

I read posts from people all the time in a state of bewilderment that any vendor would still post there but you have to keep a few things in mind imo: there is still a good amount of traffic even if there's not a lot of posts, people that post here still check there and monitor threads from vendors (i should say "most people", sorry bg), anything offered for sale over there still sells very quickly (the point defiance sale went very quick even though they weren't mint/stunning combined with most people posting here), and also there might be a sense of loyalty to the blue site after being tied to them for so long from the vendors point of view. Also, it could just be habit along with not surfing the forums daily/hourly like most of us do and they just haven't "noticed" enough to make a change.

I love this forum and post here almost exclusively, and even though I can understand the negative sentiment from some people who were more invested than I in the other site, I don't care where my vendor chips come from as far as blue or orange. Plus, if they are posted over there and less people browse that site I feel like I have a better chance of getting in the sales that sell out in five minutes. ;) :p

Just kidding mostly. If sales were offered here I would be very happy for the success of this forum, Tommy is a great guy/boss and this is an awesome forum with active, friendly, helpful members... But I take no joy in calling the death of other places. There are still good people who post over there occasionally regardless of differences some have with the owner.

A chiproom sale could be done on a gay porn site and Jim still wouldn't have to worry about it being a " low-return proposition". The chips will sell out in minutes (if he continues to offer them below market value) no matter where the sale is posted. From a purely business perspective the most attractive option would be the cheapest. That is a decision for Jim to make.

If Jim wants to continue to sell where his business grew, that too is a decision for him to make. However, all this crap about Jim should sell on PCF because CT sucks and should die from a few vocal people is fucked up imo.

I never said CT sucks and should die, nor did I cite those as reasons Jim should consider offering his products here. Are you having reading comprehension issues again?

I never said anybody should die, but it's low return for sales of the site isn't up or isn't working frequently (which was the norm when a lot of us left). Can't order stuff when the site is down.

CT doesn't suck, it's literally dead though. I'm not gonna bash on it because it's overkill. For people who think it probably does more traffic, they might be right because it is probably still one of the first search results for Google. But if a new person goes over there and were to sign up, it'd be days before they saw any activity.

More traffic on an inactive website is moot.

Are you having reading comprehension issues again?

I quoted your post to address the "low-return proposition" aspect which didn't and still makes no sense unless you know the details of what Jim is currently paying at various sites and the reasons why, which I'd bet you don't.

I'd ask but I wouldn't want you to bother trying to explain because I probably wouldn't be able to comprehend what you were trying to say anyway. o_O

Pretty sure I didn't say you did. I said a few vocal people and left names out intentionally.

My bad for quoting your entire post and then airing out my displeasure in general of the continued shit talking regarding CT.

BG - Your banned from CT as we all know... Maybe that's the other reason you hope Jim posts here ---- Can't see what you don't have access too. You need to be careful about how you talk about people including other site owners as well. not a good look for you and there is nothing positive that comes from it.

Hey, I have an actual on topic question ;)

In the past, how quickly do Jims chips sell out?

if you blink you missed it....really no bs...within minutes sometimes on certain sales, certain chips

on the "other" site you could see who was viewing the page at any time, when one of jims sale was about to start , it was not unusual to see over one hundred plus viewers watching the countdown to when the sale opened and the second the order page was up BOOOM!......you had to click quick or miss it

jim's past sales have broke the internet on more than one occasion..(y)

Can we stop arguing with each other and keep the thread on topic. Jim was gracious to dropped by and make a post that was positive for the chipper community. Lets not turn the thread into poo.

Is there a way those folks can go back and delete those offensive posts? Let's keep things positive.

Demand seems to greatly exceed supply. If I were a businessman, I might see opportunity here.

Everyone wants casino chips...
