Hey all... looking for feedback on my design / color palate! Imagining the frac as a hot stamp... The chips don't really "talk" to each other IMO, but how do we feel about that? Would be for small/medium cash games.

Open to any and all feedback! Edit: newest design up.

There's quite a few sets out there with chips that don't "talk to eachother" that work quite well. For this one, it just appears to be a bit more hap-hazard, instead of controlled chaos if that makes sense. We have a somewhat busy mold, interesting spots chip to chip, very interesting spot colors that are often independent even of the chip they're on, and then upside down lettering.

I think somewhere in there is a success, but maybe tamper it all down and restart thinking about which crazed parts work well and which don't. Also, I like the second set of mockups much more, because on the first I had no clue what the one side was, other than having a phallic look/structure to it. Second set does not look like a penis.

edit - or say eff it, double down, and just get crazy. They're your customs, if you want a little hectic, get hectic. One more note, your sealife and bird are all centered, except the crab. Poor dude is down a bit. Also, you may get feedback regarding not having the denom be bold and up front. I was going to maybe say something, but that doesn't really matter since you're going with normal white/red/green/black colors.

Hey @BarrieJ3 appreciate the feedback! I dont think I was clear enough in my initial post. Here is the set. Everything else is alts.

Ah much clearer (image too). That image isn't actually shown in the original post. Clear denoms +1, I dig the crazy ass Moana crab, and I think the edge spots worked better with the 5 and 25 repeating.

I can dig. Feedback I can think of others having may be regarding how visible the crab will turn out (I have no idea about resolution and labels and all that, couldn't say), and some will like and some won't like the edge spot colors.

Question for me, how did you choose the A mold? I don't necessarily think any one is better than the other here, just curious.

@BarrieJ3 Tank you! you've "spotted" another error. Clearly not a vet here haha. Here is mold I want (circle Square). Added in 10c frac too in case my friends don't want to play big.

Take this with a grain of salt, because I am not the design kind of guy. We need to get input from others who are good at this here.

But my .02 is that it's just a tad too busy. And I like busy chips. Between the spots and colors from chip to chip, when you add in the mold, shaped inlays, and then the background crab design, there's just a TON of stuff, like lines and shapes going every which way direction.

While I like wacky, I think it just gets way too manic. Personally, I liked the cleaner look of the A mold. If you love this mold, maybe trying a more soft progression for the shaped inlays, or more typical spot progression?

@BarrieJ3 Hey we're not experts here but I appreciate you taking the time to think thru this. In general it sounds like classic chips decide between either a spot or an inlay shape progression? Do you have any examples you like of spot progression?

Not all of them do, from what I can tell/heard, it's just a made up chipper thing, aesthetics and such. Going from thin to thicker spots, fewer to more, etc. to build a sort of flow. I'm definitely not the person for edge spots though, I suck in that dept.

@Ben8257 got some suggestions of cool sets for him to glance at?

I really like these, think you’re on to something good! Personally I would re-think some of the green colors, it’s a little too much with 3 denoms sharing it imo

Also, do you own a color sample set? There might not be a ton of contrast between light blue, grey and white irl.

I think I agree with a lot of what @BarrieJ3 already mentioned.

Just like with @Gear labels I would make sure that your inlays are going to be legible when printed on a chip. Maybe I'm just getting too old to see clearly, but "The Jetty" is already pretty small and the city name is completely unreadable to me just because of its size.

Another thing to consider is that very small details with hot stamping can be difficult to get a clean stamp which will also affect readability.

The design on the "back" of the inlay may also be a bit too busy and suffer from the same small font as the hot stamps. I remember Gear telling me a long time ago for some labels I was designing that small fonts and details can come off just looking like a sloppy printing because the larger details don't always transfer to a small inlay.

I would recommend printing the inlays in their actual size using a high quality printer -- or maybe even asking @Gear to test print and mail them to you. I know you are going with inlays not labels but seeing them under a textured laminate should be a pretty good indiciation of the end result. (Apologies to Chris in advance if this simply piling more work onto his already busy schedule.)

tl;dr: I'd increase the size of "The Jetty" and the city name. Maybe edit the back design to not be as highly detailed in order to make for a cleaner inlay.

Cool idea and great chips. @Eriks makes a good point about the three uses of the same green (at least looks the same to me), but I dig 'em so far!

I don't (yet), good call.

@allforcharity Personally I like black better, but could see how it looks with White inlay.

@kaimat appreciate the feedback, will look into it! Maybe making the crab darker so its more subtle...

New draft... Bumped font, darkened crab inlay in background, changed 50c spot and colors (a little to similar to 10c for my liking now...) but go 9ers!
