Hello all, newbie here. Just recently purchased my first set of 10g scroll ceramics. 500 ct.

Compared to my friend's set of scrolls, the quality was awful. I opened the case thinking I received some knock offs. None of them weighed over 9g, color on nearly every single chip is extremely faded, and they sound like clay chips. I was told by the Poker store.com that they received this batch in the hundreds of thousands, that the person emailing me originally helped design the chip, and that any another retailer would be getting the same batch? Am I just SOL? Any chance I got fake chips? I know I'm a rookie in the chip world but this was a huge bummer for a college kid saving up for this set. Thanks in advance for the feedback. I realize I should've done more research / ordered some samples, but I was sure I wanted these scrolls after playing with a friend's set. I attached photos of the chips compared to my friend's original set.

I would be bummed as well, yours look nothing like the ones on their website. I’d say return that crap and take a look at these:

Granted, more expensive, but you’d be getting way way nicer chips that’s still reasonably affordable.

Yes that's a poor looking chip there, I'd be looking to send those back. My first venture up the chip chain from dice chips was Scrolls. I ordered mine from eBay US (I'm in the UK) - their colours matched your friends chips.

Did they say you can't return them? Your pictures tell the story clearly. How much do your friend's Scrolls weigh? Return them and get them from a different place if that's what you like.

@tunabubbles - although I'm quite a few years out of college, while dipping my feet into the poker chip ocean last year, I was very hesitant to spend more than my allotted budget of like $300. I was effectively capped by an angry wife asking why I needed to buy little circles when I already had other little circles.

I got some samples, including the scrolls, but eventually decided that the best bang for the buck would be better quality ceramics from BRPro. That would be my best advice for you - go with some stock 39mm ceramics and you'll be quite happy.

If that other store doesn't give you a refund for defective merchandise, then go through your credit card company for a refund. There is no room in this crazy world for poor quality poker chips - we all have enough bullsh*t to deal with :)

Big bummer! Send them back ASAP. If you advise your budget people around here will be happy to give you suggestions on sets. Some you may not have know about or would have even consider. Knowledge is power and the peeps around here definitely have knowledge when it comes to poker chips.

When did you order that set? Very curious if there are good sets of scrolls left. Anyway, definitely looking into the BR Pro chips.

I tried to look through my eBay history earlier for you but couldnt see them, it was a good 3+ years ago now.
I think it was a seller called DG Poker (or similar), don't think it was BR Pro. Hope you find what you want :)

Did your friend order from the same vendor? That might explain the variance. Same art design but different manufacturer.

I don't think anyone would be happy with those chips you received. Those 5s like terrible with the offset printing.

You might be screwed with a return. Seller may have restocking fees, etc. And then factor the cost of shipping back.

Any update on this @tunabubbles ?
I'll be taking a loss.
Was offered $30 off the entire order to keep them... Won't be doing this cause I'll never be at peace with these.

Looking at a 15% restocking fee plus shipping costs. Was also told by ThePokerStore that I could keep the case and everything but the chips, and he'd take off $40 and that'd be it, covering the restocking fee. Thinking about this since it'll help with the shipping expenses. Paid 190 for the complete set of 500.

Unfortunately, the BR PRO tiki kings / Nevada jacks are out of budget, but I'm still thinking about ordering a set of tiki king samples to keep me inspired. I think my dream set is on hold for now, and my college $10 buy-in home game can carry on with our metal insert clays for now.

Yup, they are pretty ugly. I'm kinda getting screwed but hey I should've ordered samples, lesson learned. My friend's dad actually owns the set, He's had them for at least 3 years or so and didn't remember where he ordered them.

Scrolls are hit and miss - everyone and their brother makes scrolls, but nobody sells them direct. It is always resellers that have them, acting like scrolls are a big upgrade from plastic sluggos. You are way better off saving your money up and getting from brpropoker. I got my set from them, and I couldn't be happier.

Sorry to hear about your experience. It seems as if your seller is at least trying to make it right, which is a good sign. Good luck in the future and remember to get sample sets if possible! Let us know what you decide

I don't think buying sample sets would have helped him here. The reseller just cherry picks good ones and sends that as sample sets. His problem is scrolls. They really are crap.

These are my scrolls from the same vendor I purchased in January. YMMV.

Mine get the job done, but I've got tiki kings that are way more saturated with color.

The thing that tilted me with my Scrolls was the colour difference (or lack of) between the $100 and $500. If the room wasn't surgically lit it was always a little tricky to distinguish between them.

That's the problem with scrolls. Printers don't sell them just resellers. The lesson to be learned from this is that ceramics need to be purchased from the printer directly. That is why we all love @BR Pro Poker and @SUN-FLY Poker Chips. They do the making and the printing. No printer would sell to a consumer with the garbage this guy got, but there are a lot of cheap Chinese places that might fulfill a contractual obligation with a reseller with this crap.

I'd return them and if they don't accept, if you paid by PayPal, you should be covered.
And then, buy from a site vendor here would not be a bad Idea.

Is there someone who owns the rights to produce Scrolls? The original designer of the artwork, for example? Does everyone and their brother just not care about the copyright, so you can get them from anywhere? Is there any kind of officially licensed supply chain, so that you can buy from an authorized source and be confident that the IP owner is ensuring some kind of quality standards are in place?

Yeah. I wish I realized that was the case. I was told otherwise. I titled this post because I was pretty sketched out from the reply I got from ThePokerStore.com. I've quoted the original reply from my first email below after I complained

"This is how the current batch is coming, we just got restocked with them in hundreds of thousands.
In our policy page we do have It noted that in different manufacture runs, there can and will be slight variations and weight in production lines. Only one importer of these and I originally helped design this chip, so no matter where you get it from it will all ship from the same warehouse."

Said there's only one manufacturer, made me feel like I was completely SOL. @Apache Is it true there is only one manufacturer, made in china?

My sole experience with them was good, but I bought plastic sluggos from them. Those Scrolls were horrible.
Happy for you. They send you the chips you purchase but if there’s any issues they’re about as helpful as the PCF padded mat company Tommy dealt with.

“Oh the 200 mats we sent you were the wrong shape? Here’s 20% off your next order, you’re welcome” ;)
