The Second Official Faux Clay Nation thread! (2 Viewers)

Frist package with Faux Clays arrived yesterday. Many thanks to @jja412 for putting these for Sale.

These chips get realy close to my near mint/ vg+ Paulson Indiana Grands in terms of feel, stackability and surface friction.
Totaly forgot that these are 40mm instead of 39.
Also the weight is pretty much the same.

Can't wait for the second package

The second package came today
A little dirty are these. Will give them a warm bath to feel comfi.
Handled the black chips and these have noticeable less friction as the white ones. I can remember when I had my old Faux set that the white chips really stand out compared to the colored and dyed chips regarding friction. I don't think that I will dye these.

Super happy with them. I think they will work perfectly as a non denom 2 chip limit set :)

I will giveaway the rack of black Faux Clay chips.
Reserved to @DerFabo. If he doesn't need them, I will giveaway to any PCF member who is already a Faux Clay owner and likes to add these to his set. Just pay shipping.

I dyed one white rack yesterday. For that I selected the best homogene looking white chips. Bought a pack of textil color (Simplicol) and started dyeing as described from the manufacturer. The result was quit terrible. I gave it an other try today with the same chips. I cooked them with a higher temperature but the result is still very unsatisfying. The old Chiptalk had a step by step instruction. Unfortunately the knowledge is gone. Chips will go into the trash box.

If anyone can help me out with a rack of non white, black or gray Faux Clay Chips, please let me know. I will put up a WANTED thread soon too.

If you have access to RIT dye, I know that worked when I dyed mine many years ago. I actually just stumbled upon my old scribbled recipe for my orange "tangerine" chips:
  • 2 gallons water
  • 1 cup vinegar
  • Salt
  • 2 oz dye
  • Combine & bring to a boil, add chips for ~20 mins that remove/strain/rinse
That dyed 160 chips pretty evenly.

Thanks @Irish!
Wow if I convert gallons and oz this RIT dye seems strong!

But I give up. I have 900 white chips left which I will use/ need as workhorse chips in my limit set.
If I can buy another rack of original or dyed color ... blue, purple, red or what ever just not black, white or gray :-) Iam happy!

I still have 1,500 or so laying around - with a few barrels still in cellophane wrap. I think I have white, red, green, black, and possibly purple.

Still bust them out for road trips and occasions where things are bound to get super sloppy and things may get lost or worse, like bachelor party, etc.

I remember when these were all the rage. Don't think anyone is making these anymore. Still love to see them around they handled so well and the fact you could dye them different colors (at least the whites).

For the record, people used to use RIT Dye. In any case, it has to be a POLYESTER dye! The disc golf community uses iDye Poly a lot (be sure to use the Poly version, not the natural fiber one, which is available in germany at Idee for instance) ; I haven't tried it on Faux Clay chips, but it works extremely well with plastic golf disc so it might yield good results with chips.
