Twice the price and slower shipping for a product the seller does not even have. What more could a buyer ask for?

@justincarothers
I also saw this on FB marketplace, not a fan.

Well to be fair I think @Cratty thinks all IP is fair game and Justin’s a reseller! lol but yeah it’s annoying…
Ha, got me there!

But yeah, not a big fan of flipping, granted I get non-users also may not want to deal with us and may be willing to pay a premium for more normal protections that a site like eBay could offer.

No clue who's doing it, but eh.. whatever. Maybe it will drive traffic here if anything too.. or at least people might be buying this set over that one metallic pirate coin set that wouldnt stop hitting my feed! :ROFLMAO:

Guys. @Kam @justincarothers @doublebooyah85 @EastCoastCali

This was me. Hear me out:

First of all you see with 53 completed transactions on eBay in 22 years I'm not a flipper (52 purchases - 1 sale).

Here at PCF, in the community, I'm hoping to organize a "cash" [longer] starting stack group buy without profit - so again not a flipper.

I had the idea of the "Tangiers Group Buy Guessing" guessing game. I eventually guessed 111k. Then, organically, as a goof I put up that eBay listing and a FB marketplace with idea of posting in the guessing thread with a "Hey I'm trying to juice the ordering to get to 111k - lolz" once early totals were announced.

Of course, as I'm putting it up I have to make it make sense financially in case someone actually clicks it. There's eBay fees and reshipping fees of who knows what. I've never sold (sans 1 truck) on eBay, I've never shipped chips, I just made the price something sort of reasonable but also something that can't hurt me.

But then I think... why not? They're gorgeous. I also knew people would offer less through eBay and I'd have to learn what real shipping costs are to consider it. @justincarothers better make money for organizing these group buys - is he a flipper? No, he's adding value. I supported him by buying racks and setups this week. I hope he's making money doing all of this. Everything takes time.

Is everyone in the Sales forum flipping? Is that OK? I'd love for everyone in that thread to list the prices they paid and be judged by how much money they're making. Can I buy your 1,000 chip THC mid stakes cash set based only on what you paid? Give me the choice and I probably will. The market sets the price.

The people that harvest live chips for resale are clearly flipping right? We know what they paid. But that is ok here yeah? Yeah it is because they traded their time to curate the barrel/rack and make it available to the public. The market sets the price. (P.S. Can someone get me a rack of Borgata snappers because I keep meaning to go down and put in the time but I never have.)

To the extent I'm a flipper - we've all been flippers. We trade our time for money by adding value to something.

It goes without saying that taking the idea developed by @Cratty and others and going to Tina (or an alternate supplier) directly is clearly crossing the line. I would never do that. But let's say I got 50,000 chips sold to eBay randoms. @justincarothers still gets his money. @Cratty gets his royalty [presumably, he gets something for his effort. this is pure speculation. I have no idea how that works.] Tina gets their money. And involvement in the group buy maybe even lowers the cost for @justincarothers and helps the community or Justin with current or future negotiations with Tina.

This is the first group release like this I've been around for and I'm excited. I think these chips are awesome and I'm enamored with them specifically and in general with the mob movie themed sets for the obvious easy tie ins.

e.g. I created this tribute set to Bronx Tail (just renders - no ai)

The value I'm adding to the general public on eBay is:
a) Counseling on chip breakdown for their games / tournament structure of choice - of which I spent hours on PCF yesterday before placing my Tangiers GB order because I'm not a tournament guy.
b) Putting an otherwise exclusive product they wouldn't otherwise know exists in a place they can find it. I was up front about timelines. Not trying to underdeliver or piss off Joe Public. I'm setting expectations. Everything is on the table and they they can pay or not pay.

Yes if someone is here in this community they can get the advice in a) for free and put in the time themselves. Plenty of people just want to pay for expertise and not spend there own precious time.

I wanted the world to know about these chips and they don't know.

What is a fair price for Tangiers GB chips to the general public? My PCF account was made in mid February. 50 days ago I was the general public. Are Tangiers GB 2x better than Milanos? Maybe... Are they at least 17% as good as an $8 Paulson? Maybe... I think they're better than 1/2 as good as a BR Pro Custom no mold Ceramic with aligned edges at $2 / chip. But these are my opinions - which count for nothing. The market decides if my eBay price was fair.

Would I have paid $1 / chip for Tangiers 50 days ago? Yeah - I would have. I didn't know this community. I didn't know Tina. The only chipper's I knew were Linden's. I knew I love Paulson chips and they're expensive. I knew anything I can find cheaply so could everybody else and they'd be... unremarkable. I'd have paid $1 / chip for Tangiers tribute because they are remarkable and they aren't readily available all over the place. I'd have felt like I was paying a fair price for something genuinely good looking, something exclusive that people haven't seen and for some level of security (for now) for a cash game.

I sent the Tangiers GB graphics to other people I knew looking for chips. e.g. A local mom that asked me to come over with my toddler [which she'd babysit] while I setup and play a tournament with her kids and their friends (teenagers) because they're into poker don't know what they're doing. For them, I wouldn't be marking these up but I was excited to tell them about it all the same. Or charging her for running a tournament with/for her kids. But we're in the same community.

Nonetheless, FOR NOW, I ended the eBay listing, potentially to the detriment of the general public who doesn't know Tangiers GB exist, to Tina, Justin, Cratty [still presumably] who would've made money and the community at large. It just isn't a big deal to me. While I don't think it was shady it just sucks the fun out of sharing these great chips with the public who I hope will at least remain ignorant of their suffering with China slugs.

I found PCF. Caught the chipping disease. Diseases spread.

Eh, any concerns/issues that may have existed were dropped along with the listings, and you owned up as well immediately (regardless of right/wrong/opinions). Feels like a good cause for us all to just move on! But do agree that I also wish I'd see more chips from here, CPC, BR, etc.. on my feeds vs the current crappy chips being pumped out.. ha.

And no making money on my end, don't want to ever cross a threshold where this feels like anything but a hobby for me personally. Just a personal choice, don't blame others for taking different choices.

Then you didn't read it... (Yes it's long)
I sat in peace for 12 months ignoring all this kind of drama and within 2 days I've allowed myself to get sucked back in.

Ill try to be brief. You are new around here. You don't have the slightest idea of how we ended up here with respect to Tina's et al. Heck I only joined in 2020 and I can only really comment on what I've experienced since then even, though Id argue I have spent thousands of hours reading old threads that predated me so it puts me in a position to TRY to understand what came before me. So your perspective, on why what you did, wont be taken to kindly, is severely flawed.

Despite your logic you have created NO VALUE. The only thing you have created is the mental gymnastics in your mind to make the decision you did.

Had you been transparent and asked your "suppliers" then this would be different. But you didn't. You got caught and are now pleading to be understood.

If you were that insistent on providing VALUE to the people of eBay you would have gone to the EFFORT, to CREATE your own mold, CREATE your own designs AND then you could have done what ever you wanted with them.

The fact you were trying to PROFIT from a group buy with ZERO RISK is what will leave a bad taste in everyone's mouth. What you did is akin to running a Kickstarter for a product you didn't make or design or have any control of when they would be in your possession. Next time just order a few thousand chips and once they are in your possession then sell them. You would receive far less criticism.

As someone who has recently taken on HUGE RISK that took a GARGANTUAN EFFORT and a MASSIVE amount of TIME to be in a position to bring chips to this community and individuals outside it for PROFIT, I'm still aware of how I may be perceived by some etc. You are oblivious to it. But at least I when I sell my chips, I know I actually have them in my possession, and what it took to do so, so that any criticism that is potentially thrown my way is coming out of a lack of understanding what was required to do so and not from an abundance of it.

Good luck out there. The streets of PCF can be rough.

P.S. I have no ill will towards you. Just like you attempted to explain your position I'm just attempting to explain why it will most likely fall on deaf ears. Whilst PCF has a long memory there are always opportunities for redemption with your actions moving forward.

P.S.S. This will be the last I will speak on this matter. Going back to ZEN mode.

You don't even convince yourself. I find it hard to believe what I'm reading. Is today April Fool's Day? Please close the door on your way out.

If you want to do business with chips, the least you can do is create your own design and find a supplier. The least you can do is ask the people who created this magnificent project.

I'm just as new as you, and you don't represent us, newbies. The first thing I did when I arrived at the forum was read hundreds of threads, and the last thing I would do is exactly what you did. Just today I was reading a thread where they talked about the forum's drift. Apparently, with the arrival of Tina chips, many people are coming in just to buy them, but your situation is much worse. Not because you want to deliver quality chips to people who don't know them, but because you want to do business secretly and treacherously.

That said, I'm nobody to blame you for anything, but your attempt at justification (which is more focused on self-justification) has made me almost more angry than the fact of seeing the ads.

As long as Universal Pictures gets their cut, I’m good.
