They are both part of my tourney league, so the poker will be happening.

And yes  :ROFLMAO: 36mm is the face size. My other watch is 42, but 44 :vomit:. That's just too big for my liking. We are talking understated class here Mike.

44 - 50 would probably be your average watch size in Michigan though lol
A true Michigan bogan would go 50 mm face surrounded by a faux 4X4 tire (tyre).

Love this thread! I had a watch phase a couple of years ago and bought a handful of automatics and some quartz watches. My favorite is my Hamilton Pilot Day Date (the watch worn by Murph in Interstellar). Also love my Seiko SARB035. Nothing crazy for me yet, but I love a good watch.

Nice! I was looking for one to buy my brother in law who liked the movie and named his dog Murphy. But I couldn’t find the exact watch. This one is one of them but the other one was made just for the movie.

I know exactly which one you’re talking about! I believe if you just google Murph Watch you should find it.

What is the pokerchipforum.com of watches? I came here having never heard of rhc or thc, spot progression, etc., and am in the same place with watches but looking to learn.

I love a lot of what I’ve seen here, but am starting from scratch. I’m know it’s a child’s toy compared to everything, but the only piece I enjoyed wearing until I snapped the band was this Zelos, some random guy or company in Singapore. Ready to read more and learn.

Anyone have a recommendation for a reasonable brand of watch winder?

My main watch up till now has been a manual wind, so I haven't needed one. But when my new one arrives i will need one.

I don't really know much about them and I'd rather not spend too much unless it's really necessary.

You don’t really need one. Just wear the watch. Or pick it up and manually wind it from time to time.
Even if it stops, resetting it isn’t a big deal—even my perpetual only takes a few moments to reset and wind.

That's true, and i probably will wear this one enough to keep it going. And it doesn't have a date function so it won't matter so much.

But I have another that I wear to work once or twice a week and I keep letting it stop. And it's really annoying to have to keep resetting the date. So I was thinking it would he handy to have the winder.

First world problems lol.

@Nanook let's see some watch pron.
Ok, here you go. I have been into watches for a long time too. Mostly divers for me because a) I just like em and b) I am pretty casual and a diver seems to go with my attire more often than not and c) I like to do stuff in and around the water in the summer time and a diver is perfect for that. In the Summer my divers are all on rubber just so I am never caught swimming with a leather strap on my watch. For some reason I like the look of a black strap on a black diver about the best of all so that is what I tend to wear. I have had a lot of different watches over the years including several much more expensive ones, but over time I have found that I only have one wrist and I like to actually wear a watch without the fear of damaging it or losing it somehow so I am now into watches in the $1000-$2000 retail range mostly. My wrist is 7 3/8" & I find that I like watches in the 42-43mm range the best. My top 3 right now in order of how often I wear each one 1) Laco Squad Himilaya, 2) Seiko 62 Mas sbdc 051 & 3) Omega 2018 Seamaster 300m. All 3 are in the watchbox in this pic #1 is in bottom row, right corner, #2 is bottom row, left corner and #3 is in the top row & the second one in from the right.

False alarm. My friend just messaged to tell me that the local dealer has agreed to order a blue op 36 for him and a silver one for me.

Going down there today to pay a deposit to initiate the order. Should get it in 1-3 months. View attachment 618771

My other friend is going to buy an omega Aqua Terra, which is his first real purchase. The three of us are going to go collect them on the same day. Looking forward to that day.

Had to look back a few posts and see what you decided on. I'm sure you will love it & that will be a fun day! At least you have something fun to look forward to in this strange Covid time we are living in. Congrats on both the watch and on being able to actually buy a Rolex @ retail right now but hey.... That is Rolex for you right now.

go poke around on www.watchuseek.com (WUS) and you will be in watch heaven much like PCF is heaven for poker chip lovers. I gotta warn you though, it is a really deep rabbit hole....

This ^ .. when I bought my 3rd auto, I asked my buddy who is pretty big Rolex collector and he said don't bother.

I have it on right now. I totally love it. I got it second hand, but it was LNIB condition. ETA movement, Sapphire Crystal, Ceramic lumed bezel insert, very legible & lume is very good. Not as good as Seiko, but still easily readable @ 6am in the winter when it is pitch dark outside still. It comes on a Bracelet and retails for $1190 which, in my opinion, is extremely reasonable for what you are getting.

100% agree. I used to think it would be nice to have one, but I really don't think it is necessary. Just wear what you want and if it is in your watch box & has stopped just give it a little wind and set it. Get er close and move on with things. I used to be all anal about having my watch keep perfect time and all that, but I just don't see it as all that important anymore. As long as I am within 30 seconds or so it is all good.

A little more watch pron:

Wow, that's an awesome collection, thanks for sharing. Looks like a fifty fathoms hiding in plain sight there, min surprised that one isn't in your top three. That's a lovely watch.

I'm intrigued to hear that you love the laco. Before I settled on the oyster perpetual i took a detour and was considering a pilot watch. Laco and Stowa were two brands that stood out in that category. There is just something cool about German watches.

It is a ff, it is not in my top 3 for a couple reasons. I have had quite a few really nice watches and I wind up not wearing them for multiple reasons. I am a bit conservative so wearing anything really flashy is just not my thing. Next up is probably also due to me being a bit conservative I am hesitant to wear a really nice watch as an everyday watch just knowing that eventually I am going to bang it on a door jam or on a brick wall or some stupid thing and then I am going to have a big gash in a really expensive watch. #3 reason is the ff is a pretty big watch. It does wear really well for a 45mm case watch and in comparison to a lot of the fashion watches today it is not overly big, but I found it to be just a bit big for my taste.

I have slowed down considerably on buying and selling watches as I have sort of settled into knowing more what I like. I usually buy second hand, but try to find something that is pretty much LNIB so if I do decide to sell I don't lose too much. If you think poker chips are a money hole, just give expensive watches a try for a while.

I had a couple 3 or 4 IWC Pilot watches for a hot second. I liked them well enough, but for some of the same reasons that the ff is not in my top 3 the IWC's were not getting wrist time and I just thought someone else really should be enjoying them. Besides that, less watches = more poker chips, right? Yea, The german watches are fantastic. I have never had a Stowa, but I am sure they are great. I had a Sinn U1 for a while and it is a fantastic watch. A little big so I let that one off the hook too. Another Sinn is certainly in my future..

Thanks, I really can't wait to get it. But yes the whole situation with the brand seems really stupid. I'd actually compare it to chips right now. People are buying them because they are flashy and expensive.

I like the op 36 because it's nice and small and somewhat understated. A nice entry point into the brand.

Didn't realise the FF was 45. My wrists can't handle that much watch lol. 42 is about as big as I like to go personally. Even the op 41 looked silly on me. But then my speedy is 42 and it doesn't look big. I guess it comes down to the lugs, as you say some wear smaller than the size would indicate.

I might try some pre-owned at some point, it can definitely save a lot. My friend just received his el primero from chrono yesterday. They retail for around $12,900 AUD and he paid $7700 shipped for a 2018 version. When he opened it up it was lnib, so he got a great deal.

Agreed. I just don't get it about Rolex and I don't get it about chips either.... The thing is I have nothing against Rolex or anyone that wants one or wears one. They are very nice watches. I have had 2 different SS Subs and I loved them both. There are a lot of other great watches out there too. Sorta just like chips, I have nothing against someone that wants to pay $10/chip for a really nice set of poker chips like the ones that seem to be trading hands here lately, but there are a lot of other really nice chips out there too at a much more reasonable price point. Everything goes in cycles, housing, Stocks, Watches & poker chips alike.

Very True

45mm is big, but some I like better than others. Mostly even 44 is just a bit too much watch for me, but Seiko Tuna @ 45mm wears even quite a bit smaller than the ff and I love that one. They are big watches and for anyone with average or smaller wrists it is going to be tough to pull off a ff.

Love the looks of an El Primero! That is another one that I have not had, but it is on my list too. Your friends pre-owned watch is exactly the kind of purchase I like to make. Sometimes I only wind up wearing the watch a few times and other times I will wear it a lot. Either way, if I wind up selling it down the road I usually come close to breaking even on the deal. I don't mind losing a little, but I don't like the idea of losing like 50%. Think about the guy that bought that one for almost 13k and just a couple years later he probably netted $6500 or something with all the fees. He lost 50% of what he paid. Your friend when he goes to sell it in a couple years he will probably net about that same $6500 so he gets to wear the watch for a couple years for a 15% fee instead of a 50% fee... lol

Wolf - had this one for 15 years, no issues and works great!

I only have mechanical watches, so it’s nice to keep they ready for when I want to swap out.

Can’t believe I’m just finding this thread! I love watches but haven’t made a purchase in many years. In the fall my wife....out of the blue...says “I think we should buy new watches”. Hot damn! I have a short list of watches to acquire but never had a watch I felt was truly appropriate for a suit or sports coat which I wear for work (well before covid). So that’s the direction I went.

Looking to add the new Speedmaster Moonwatch this year and possibly a Rolex Explorer 1 after if the Rolex market settles down. If not a JLC Polaris or Omega Seamaster 300 coaxial.

Always lived the IWC Portugieser line but they were just too big. Then this came out in 2020! The new Portugieser 40mm. Picked it up with a nice discount through a jeweler friend. Bought a bunch of straps to try and make it more casual. The wife’s is below that.

Both beautiful pieces, that IWC looks really clean! I have a speedmaster myself and I love it, although I rarely wear it enough as I can’t wear it during work. I rock my speedmaster during poker games, or a night out with friends but I always find myself banging it on something and that makes Cringe.
