I am curious about others thoughts on cancelled poker chips. Not necessarily hotstamp sunburst cancelled (because I know this is removable), but mainly drilled and / or notched cancelled chips.

I picked up the $100 Argosy's below at $99 (buy it now on eBay). First off, I'm not looking to sell (so I'm not soliciting offers). I am just curious because the tripple cancellation in the chip seemed like overkill. They are stamped, drilled, and notched. I'm just looking to put them into play, but I've never played with drilled or notched chips before, so it may drive me nuts, but I don't think so.

Thoughts?

I buy single chips that are drilled or notched when the real chip (undrilled/unnotched) is either unavailable or out of my price range. For playable sets I've never bought drilled or notched but I would think if it's drilled in the center/inlay area it would be alright, and could be covered with a label. I don't think I would want to play with anything that was drilled in the mold area or notched.

I saw those as well and passed based on this reason:

If I had a stack of them, I'd try to line up all of the notches and/or holes in the stacks of chips in front of me and I could not take that kind of torture knowing I probably couldn't get it to work.

They are great looking chips though!

It would drive me nuts. I would much rather relabel a different chip to match or just use a different chip as a mixed set.

If it was just the hot stamp that could be removed I would deal with it.

But the notching and hole in a chip that I will be playing with, no thanks, I will find another option.

Yeah, I passed too (initially)...and then the degenerate poker chip buyer in me won in the end  :ROFLMAO:

Yup! I might feel the same way when I put em into play. (y)

My Sahara $25 H Mold Chips are drilled and it does not bother me a bit because that's the only way to put a set together.

When I first started my Mapes set the $1s were notched and they were awful, drove me nuts.

....the $1s were notched and they were awful, drove me nuts.

I suspect that this will be my reaction too.

My first instinct is that, visually, the holes are tougher for me to swallow than the notches. I don't have plans to relabel, which I know would take care of that. But I'm real curious to see how the notches feel when shuffling them.

New service from @Gear in order.

Chip re-lathing to remove the notches. :ROFLMAO: Turn your 39mm chip into 36mm (or whatever). You can then call them shortened top hat and cane.

Awesome chips though but really too bad.
LOL...that's awesome!! The notches look shallow, so maybe they end up close to TRK size chips:ROFL: :ROFLMAO:

Yeah, no interest here in mutilated chips. I'd go bonkers trying to figure out how to fill and color notches to match the original color (a nightmare if notched in a spot location), and removed hot-stamps still have a noticable indentation that I cannot handle from a tactile experience perspective.

Filled and relabeled center-drilled holes (or inlay replacements) would be the only exception, but it would have to a pretty spectacular chip to warrant the trouble and expense.

Well. I got the chips today and I am pleasantly surprised. You can definitely feel the notches, but they don't hinder shuffling the chips in any way, and don't bother me too much. The damn holes in the middle are WAY more annoying to me. All in all, I am happy with the pick up.

I'll put them into play this Friday and will take a thumbs up or down poll from my peeps. Stay tuned.

Alright...huge hit. 100% thumbs up by my poker peeps, but only 12 players versus the normal 18+. I asked for a straight thumbs up or down. Nobody had any problem with the chips. I put them into play as $10 chips so a lot of them would be in play.

Moral of the story is that you all need to let me have all of these crappie chips.:D:whistle: :whistling:
