Tina Capdash chips (9 Viewers)

I’ll just stay with the chips nobody cares about and Tina isn’t interested in replicating, yet…

HHR’s, Cigar/Snifter, DieCards, Elephant/Crown, Lucky Bee’s.

Sticking it to the man since 1966…

If I owned CPC, I’d write a letter to the president, demanding 100% tariffs on Chinese poker chips.
Let’s be real, you’d need a 400% tariff on Chinese chips. Then they’re roughly the same cost but wildly better quality. You just gotta convince customers it’s worth the wait.

Here's my position, having owned, and sold, Tina's including the Web mold... China can knock off whatever they want... They're still Tina chips that are prone to spinner issues and stack like bricks as long there isn't a hint of movement in the room then slip, sliding away. Don't get me wrong, Tina's are great for some and even good for most of us... It's not only the mold that we love, it's the quality of the chip that the mold lives on...

We know that Tiger Palace chips were a trick against Paulson who thought they were supplying a real casino with chips.
This just isn’t true

Paulson reps are not stupid. Real life is different than The Office episodes. The reps and factory know what’s happening, they making money!!

It’s amazing the mythical world a lot of people live in.

IDK what Tinas you had but my set can stack over 120 high without a wobble and zero spinners in 1000

Again since they cost 1/4-1/5th at least it's a fine tradeoff if 1 in 1000 is a "spinner"

You all are really hung up on chips being made in China.

I'll say it since no one else wants to. Paulson's are not worth $5+ per chip. It's getting ridiculous.

Poker chips are going thru the gouging phase. All prices are pushing higher and higher to see everyone's limits

Not everyone makes 100k a year and can spend thousands and thousands on an accessory for their hobbies

These damn scrub donkeys! Maybe I should go bump that thread to help keep the prices down.

Sounds like you don’t want em badly enough! I don’t make anywhere near 100k/year  :ROFLMAO:

That’s what I’ve said, specifically to the creator of those chips. He has denied it.

I think as long as China remains exempt from copyright infringement that's a moot point. As far as selling a knock off in the United States I'm sure if an item is owned and trademarked it could be prevented. Maybe it's not worth the cost of legal fees to pursue or maybe it's not impacting a business that takes half a year or more to fulfill an order.

Hold on. Tina and any other Chinese vendor would have NO IDEA of the existence or demand of fake SCrown or RHC or any other mold UNLESS the idea was intentionally brought to them. Of course they don't care about copyright or property. But someone who believes they have the right to copy these chip designs and get what they want at a lower price have colluded with them to have them produced. Everything seems from FOMO, which is a really poor form of motivation.

This has absolutely nothing to do with it. Copying/counterfeiting likeness is my problem with Tinas not where they're made.

I personally wish I didn't care about this. Or liked fake edgespots or muted colors because in the end they all serve the exact same function.

But I do.

When I get home, before I play with my Tina CapDash chips, I like to put on some slippers and have a hot cup of coffee

I think there’s a lot that are upset they didn’t do this first, and they bemoan the fact they aren’t motivated to do anything even remotely similar in difficulty.

There is also a lot of moral indignation, which I feel to a degree, but it’s more romanticism for a time when you had to work hard to obtain appreciable things.

The world goes on

The world goes on

As it always will.

But in this little microcosm of the poker chip enthusiast community, ultimately the world is what we make of it. Just like any other, we have the authority and responsibility to act ethically. I feel badly that several members have openly admitted that CPC lost business because there was a fake option available.

I don't mind Tina's... You're right, the spinner thing was more of a no-mold 43mm thing. They are slippery. You can stack them a mile high. But they can't be bumped too prominently or they won't be stacked for long.

No, I like Tina's. I can't afford a CPC out the door so I scoop what I see in the Molds I like and piece sets together. A five rack cash set of HHR's regardless of inlay or stamp can be done for under $600.

Tina isn't going anywhere and I'm ok with that.

Has the general public on the forum had a change of heart on the Tina rep molds of the capdash (scrown? not super sure what they're called) and RHC? Seeing more listings on class fields as of late and although I don't have a strong opinion there seemed to be a massive boycott when they first surfaced in class fields:oops:
Next time you should make it a poll lol!

I'd also throw another hypothesis :
- Might be due to to the report stating that with use the chips become slick ? Maybe not all the mold are affected though.

IMO only.. all only as it relates to poker chips.. been a while since my IP law courses though, so forgive me if I misspeak.

What I personally consider legally and ethically challenged and would not buy:
  • Trademarked/copyrighted images, etc - within the industry
    • For instance - RHC - Top Hat and Cane is clearly a live/registered trademark and used by products in the industry
What I personally consider legally challenged, but ethically grey/OK:
  • Trademarked/copyrighted works - outside of the industry or unused IPs, examples:
    • Mr Burns set.. clear trademark/copyright, but we're really not competing with anything the Simpsons offers (separate industry), and not taking business away from them. There's no chance they would look to enforce or could claim any damages
    • Tangiers.. non-trademarked (owned by Universal Pictures), so they clearly aren't trying to protect the IP.. and the imagery (e.g. sword) likely might hit some copyright issues.. but again, they would never enforce. not a space they're competing in, too little of litigation value.
    • Bellagio tributes/etc. Casinos likely don't care about the chips as long as they don't challenge the security of their own products. This is a bit more of a nuanced spectrum though, and could see the "grey" lean between OK/NOK depending on the mold or set. But generally speaking I think they're more fine than not.
What I consider a legally OK area and ethically grey/OK:
Why we're here.. I see both sides with the cap-dash chips. I can't think as to how they could be copyrighted or trademarked (but might be wrong, would love to see it spelled out how they are!). Personally when working on the Sun mold (or diamond mold, lets not restart that debate.. ha), I didn't realize people's concerns when the first iteration looked too close to CSQ, but changed the design after talking w/ David to try and honor a separation. I understand why folks may not like the cap dash from the lens that it might detract business from CPC... but that's the cost of doing business.

Personally I don't see any real issue with the cap-dash mold, but I recognize that's just like.. my opinion man. A lot of that thought though is moreso because I recognize the other deficiencies with Tina chips, and while they're fun cheap chips, they'll never live up to the quality and history that CPC has.

I will always be against both molds.

Counterfeiting two molds that are currently in production is flat out fucking wrong.

Especially because one of them is based on a currently in production mold from a forum sponsor that’s beloved by the community in general (CPC).

It’s an asshole move
Even the cards and diamonds mold were initially introduced by SunFly (also Forum sponsor) and copied by these companies.
