It's killing me that I can't go to the post office and open that box for another full week.
At least I know the box has been located...I feel SO much better about that.
But I want to open that box so badly. You have no idea!
Called in a favor and had someone go pick up the box from the post office for me.
Box split open during shipment, and 400 of 900 chips were lost. (the good news is that 500 chips WERE in the box).
This has reminded me how critically important it is to take extra time to get a box ready for shipment. USPS is going to drop, throw, and otherwise abuse the box. They just are. So the box needs to be prepared to handle this abuse.
Packing tape = cheap
bubble wrap = cheap
400 Tropicana 2nd additions = not cheap, not replacable to our community.
In the future, I am going to make sure that any box that I ship, has all box edges re-inforced by packing tape, so there is NO WAY that any side could split open. And sufficuent bubble wrap or packing materials inside to protect chips from breakage, assuming that the box takes a header off the truck, and falls 5-6 feet (the condition that my Tropicana box was in...it had to have taken several headers).
I'm also going to insist buyers of my chips insure their packages, or completely assume the risk of loss.
But insurance aside, because that's just money -- I have a renewed view of how important it is to take a little extra time, and a lot of extra packing materials -- to protect our chips. Some of these awesome chips we are buying and selling are simply amazing, and the loss of chips is so sad for our community.
HQ assures me that the next shipment I get from him will require a chainsaw to get through all of the packing tape, and I hope to find additional padding material as well.
I urge everyone to communicate with buyers/sellers before a transaction to ensure everyone is on the same page about protecting these little treasures. Maybe USPS will find the missing chips, but more likely, they're gone forever. Sad.
