This pops on my fb all the time just a tad too far for me. Knowing all this back and forth with the seller now makes me chuckle hahah

Okay so I scooped them for $280 and a 3 hour (round trip) drive.

Uncle Norman has a neat, cute house out in the boonies. His yard is "tastefully" decorated with random brik-a-brak. Farm equipment, a whimsical old bike. You can tell this guy is a picker or something for sure, but he keeps it very neat.

Anyway he invites me into his oddly clean garage to show me "these beauties". Thanks Norm nice to meet you. I set out my hoodie on his garage floor and start testing stacks for spinners like I learned on hobbyphillics YouTube video earlier today. I squeeze stacks and inspect the edges carefully. Mostly looking good!

"So you're like one of these chip guys?"

"I'm starting to get into them", still checking stacks. Still looking good. Some nicks (flea bites?) on some of the yellows.

"Oh yeah. Ok. Well yeah a lot of people wanted me to ship them. I said no way, I'm not getting scammed"

"Safe bet", trying to figure out what are these copper things are, smashed pennies? Dividers?

"Yeah yeah. And one guy, one guy had the nerve to call me out on Facebook market place."

"Oh yeah, how so?" ☕

"Well I bought them at a yard sale. This guy was hard up for money. He said they were worth $700, I bought them for $200, I put them up for $600. He said he needed the money"

"Oh" hot stamps look pretty intact. Chips are filthy though.

"Yeah so this guy on marketplace called me a douchebag!"

"Really?!" feining surprise

"Yeah he starts laying into me about I bought it for $200 and now I'm trying to profit. The guy told me they were worth $700! I thought $600 was a deal!"

"Huh. How did he know you paid the guy at the yard sale $200?"

"... He uh... must have contacted the guy... I don't know"

"Weird... Chip guys are weird I think. Don't think too much about it. The guy was probably just jealous he didn't get them for $200. These look great by the way. Filthy, gonna need a lot of cleaning but a lot of sharp edges!

"Yeah, beauties right?"

"Yep, my grampa Howie is gonna love them."

"They are for your grandfather?'

"Yep. 280 right?” I hand over $280 directly from my bankroll, including casino sharp Benjamin's.

We say our goodbyes and I drive off with my first set of real clay chips and a big smile. Yay!

I’m very happy that I’m responsible for you getting these chips for a good deal. Nobody else has the balls to call people like Norman and turd timmah on their shit. I got no problem doing it.

@AutoDonk5000 did you say you think I’m jealous over not getting these chips? I never even once asked to buy them.

You guys really like to beat “he’s jealous” bit into the ground. Why would I be jealous over something I never attempted to buy?

Ok. My grandfather's name is also not Howie so I guess I lied to ol Normy twice.

I stand by you being weird though. That's ok, I'm weird too.

Also, thank you for berating this old man on the internet. It really worked out for me financially, so I support it. ☮️♥️

Old man, young man woman or even a kid. If you are busted doing something slimy and it is something that I care about I will HAPPILY berate them.

I’ll call out my friends and family if they are being scummy.

People are too nice now a days and let scumbags get away with so much shit.

If you ever need me to step for you and call someone out for you guys I will. I’m man enough to put turds in their place.

It's called Facebook Marketplace for a reason. It's not called Facebook Freebies. Ole Normie can "ask" anything he wants and more power to him if he gets it. That goes for anyone selling anything. And on Facebook you can say anything you want to a seller because it's only going to be in a private conversation, theres no comments section. If PCF didn't exist for you to share your private conversation with Norm (some people may also have an opinion about that) you'd only have been shaking your fist at clouds. I don't much care what you do since you're free to do as you wish, much like a seller has a right to make as much as the market will bear. We'll never know how much Norm could have gotten. My guess is just about as much as he wound up getting + or - $20. You can take your bows from atop your soap box but to be honest, the way you berated old man Norm was really shameful. If the price wasn't for you and you couldn't get him down where you'd like it then move on. It never should have escalated to the level you went to and actually Norm handled it perfectly.

I didn’t want to weigh in too early but I wanted to make sure I’m not missing anything…

So flipping for profit is a sin?

Asking for everyone who’s ever spotted something in the wild, where the market is really nonexistent compared to a dedicated forum, bought it and brought it to a market that will bear going rates based on demand.

Just checking.

Hey, I’ve got some sweet dice plaques going up soon. $5 per. They’ve seen a ton at GFC. Rare.

Here is part of how I see it

If someone is asking for help to complete a set, and you sell them chips (probably at discount to help them) and they turn around and sell them for profit without asking if you want them back - that’s shit behavior

If you put chips up for sale and someone buys them and then later sells them for profit - that’s how life works. Either the market changed or you priced them too cheap.

Fair pricing is all anyone asks, no matter the original cost.

But asking for help and then turning a profit off of that help is pure shit. No matter how far down the road it is. Even if it’s chips that didn’t work out for “you completing a set” you should offer them back to the original seller.

I agree with getting a deal from someone “who gets this thing we do” and then re-releasing at some staggering price.

I hope that’s not the key component I missed.

I’ve ran across items (both poker and non-poker related) on CL and acquired them and released in the right market for what the market will bear. On two instances I suspect my pricing was below what the market would bear because the two items in question were up for grabs for a total of 15 minutes.

There are a lot of variables and specific situations of course but if you’re not doing something along the lines of what you mentioned in your post I see no issue with reselling at a profit no matter how extravagant.

No flipping stuff for profit is fine. I do it all the time. If you find something that has value and the person who is selling it has already priced it, then buy it and re-sale it in an avenue that will make you the profit.

That’s why being knowledgeable in a certain field has value. If you know more about an item than the seller that’s on the seller. Fair market, fair game.

But old boomer Norm bought an item for $200 and two days later re-posted it for $400 more. Same platform, same picture. He got busted being scummy. Just like a used car salesman that rolls back the odometer.

Norm tried to pull a scumbag move and he knew it was wrong. That’s why he instantly dropped the price.

And here’s a pro tip. If you want to get shit done sometimes you gotta be tough with these lames.

If I hadn’t went at Norm the way I did he wouldn’t have felt guilty about being a piece of shit. Defend him all you want. Norm did handle it perfectly, he lowered the price and probably felt like shit. He made his $80 bucks. Good for him. That’s fair. $400 is not.

And yeah up on my soap box the view is great! Im still glowing knowing that I got a cool chipper a great set of vintage chips. That’s my thing!

Your opinion about what I did means zilch. That’s why I posted the receipts. Shameful is just your soft ass opinion. Norm deserved the heat he got. Play the game, you win the prizes.

Again I’m proud to have helped the chipping community. I’m the man for it and I’ll do it again.

I just wish the extra $80 went to the original dude instead of norm. OP was cool and asked about the chips history and such. He seemed like he actually cares about something besides the money.

I only posted the messages for the PCF buyer to be aware of how norm moves. He said it himself, “why only break even”.

That gave the buyer some added info to use in bartering this old coot down from his price. It was insider information. I should be getting thanked, over and over and over again.

And about “some people having opinions about that”… If someone is upset that I posted a private message between me and a stranger, the that is then being too soft.

If someone in here “had an opinion” and decided to no longer “be my PCF pal” then good. I’m glad to sniff that person out now before our friendship advances. Afraid I’ll post a private message? Don’t be a sleaze ball or don’t message me. Besides that it’s all fair game.

Especially when you’re just helping out your fellow brother chippers! I’ll do anything to get a chipper his chips! Soapboxers unite!

Can’t we private message on PCF? Am I missing something? I have called people out for bad sales (@Timmah) in the comments and got reported for thread capping. It’s fine to go at someone in private message but it’s a no-no when it’s in public. I think it should be in public.

You dont see anyone throwing shade here in the comments cuz we get out in timeout. Any beefs are handled via pm. Nobody is allowed to air the dirt in the comments around here

Huh? People get punished for doing good deeds? Wait, what?

I am 100% a die on my shield type of guy. It would be an honor to give my life for something I believe in.

I wouldn’t die for chips but yeah, I’ll take a bullet in the chest to be a hero if it saves someone. Learned it in the Infantry. Just something that sticks with you I guess.

You guys need men like me. Hero’s. Ones who aren’t afraid and will be the ones at the front. You can get behind me with the others. There’s plenty of room.
Do we have to say your name three times or something to “help” us? Is there a light in the sky we can use to get you to come save us from evil?
