Alright alright you've all convinced me, it's not that bad to go spend $80 on a rack of 5c chips.

Guess I'll have to go and design one now

There's a lot of friends for whom poker is very very casual and so 5/10c or 10/25c is what we're playing a lot of the time with them.
You can also introduce new games, use them as antes, and make silly bets between hands.

I've been designing a custom set of chips and been waffling back and forth on the 5 cent denomination since it feels pretty bad to be making a chip that costs many many times over the face value of the chip.
Really this is only a point of concern if you think people will harvest your chips. Then I get that it might suck if you lose a few 5 cent chips that cost you a buck.

Otherwise, I think one of the great things about customs is you can design them to your own liking and use the denominations that fit your game. Get the nickels.

And yes, I do understand there are some players that enjoy the flexibility of a non-denominated chip, personally I think denominations are integral to the design of custom chips and should always be included in whatever denominations suit your game.

I've always ran a .5/.10 game with sometimes scrapping the nickel for .25/.25. I've been a fan of the .5 but now I have changed up my thinking. My next custom set will have a rack of NVC instead of the .5. That way if we start playing .25/.25 with a $50 max buy in, we can use the NVC for $25.

I've notice the play is a little better at .25/.25. Maybe cuz the pots are a little bigger pre idk. Seems like less limping.

They are great for our home game. We play a lot of mix games, some of which are very new to folks, so it helps having micro denoms. I'm a fan!

Not my chips, but love these Artichoke Joe’s 5¢. If you play 5¢/10¢, you need em. Literally the best in this chip lineup and I love when we get to bring them out.

I’m considering getting some .05 chips but also thinking of getting some blanks so I can use them for any fractional denominations.

Played a $.10/$.20 game last Friday night, $40 buy in and had a couple pots that hit about $300... I think @Tonystark137 snapped a pic of one of those hands but...

Think we wound up with about $1,100 in play. Talk about price per frac

Equals more than 2 of the sets in the up coming Harrahs Tourney chip sets!

Agreed! One of my favorite chips of all time!

Believe it or not, just a few years ago those nickles were only $350 per rack! A chip I would have easily paid $10 each for, and NO mine are not avaliable at $1,000 per rack! Lol

Funny thing is that they are one of my favorite chips ever and have never played them! I prefer $.10/$.20 because $.05/$.10 plays too small, I play too loose and loose more money!

It is absolutely Ludacris to come on a chipping forum and complain about the cost per chip... especially with soo many low level costs in today's market. Old school original casino micro fracs are absolutely going to cost you a fortune! But Tina's, Br Pro and other entry to mid levels semi customs for a buck a chip or less... of course! Get the real thing!!

I get how many people like chips with an "X" so they can represent whatever... but personally again at those prices I 100% say get the denom they are meant to be! Buy the other denoms too! It's only money!

As in many other micro frac threads... here are a few more photos

Tina no mold down to the nickle! Right around $.40 per chip!

BR Pro ceramics down to the penny! Right around $1 per chip a few years ago.

A two table set up of BCC Fan of Cards... clay but resonable. Average of $1.50 to $2 per chip... again I prefer $.10/$.20 so also have that set up

Not saying you can't use a non denom

Just prefer the real thing!

Even if building an old school awesoness set, sometimes relabelong is the only option... I don't have labels yet but these blues will be dimes @ about $5 per chip

But when the set cost $10 - $15k who's counting... like @Machine said. They always make more money, delicous chips are much harder to find! Lol

@batterytime did you ever figure out your nickles?

Hi All, there's some really nice 5 cent chips in here. Good stuff. I too have been toying with the idea of a low stakes cash game set and wondered whether I should just stick with .25¢ or go as low as 5¢.

If you ever want to do $5 or $10 no limit, yes. My set was designed for both .05/.10 and .10/.25. TBH, my group never plays .05/.10, and I could have skipped the .05s and done .25/.25. Still, I wanted them just in case. If you do decide to get them, don't get more than a rack.
