I've got a set of Paulson Pharaohs and I love them for my home games. However, I need more chips of certain colors/denominations, but finding them is getting harder and harder.
For hosting larger tournaments, I'm thinking of getting another set that's of high quality and rather easy to find on the market. Any suggestions?

As far as easy to find options I would check out Apache Poker Chips, one of the sponsors here. The new Majestic line is really nice looking and you shouldn't have trouble getting what you need now or at a later date. Not going to compare to the Paulsons (IMO) but they are a really nice china clay chip.

Ok I'll check them out, thanks!

How many chips do you need for your large tournament? What denominations and colors are you interested in? What is your budget or price per chip range?

If you are looking for a high-end turnkey set with in-stock availability (no waiting), the best option is likely the Key West chips manufactured by ASM/CPC. Contact @dennis63 in the Marketplace for details - he's a PCF site sponsor.

Ok thank you for the info, I'll check them out. Looks like a really nice chip. What do you like better, ASM or Paulson? Are there any significant differences?

That's like asking if you like blondes or brunettes. Both are great, but it's personal preference. The beauty of Dave's suggestion of Key West is that you can order a sample set and see for yourself first hand and make your own educated decision.

The Key West line is an awesome set of chips and no significant difference.

I'm looking for something close to this:
200 to 300 $25 den
200 to 300 $100 den
100 to 150 $500 den
100 $1000 den

$2 per chip is probably my max, although something like $1 to $1.50 is more comfortable.

Haha point taken. Good idea thank you.

For $600-900 you should be able to get used casino chips I would think, or certain Paulsons. I'm sure others more knowledgeable than me can steer you correctly, but you can definitely afford a decent set

$2 gets you into used Paulson territory right now (who knows about in 6 months at this rate). Unfortunately the availability issue is much worse if you go that route. It kinda sounds like Key West or china clay are the best options to me. Might have been different 2 years ago.

CPC Rounders in my opinion. For the price, I don't think there's a better option out there. But you'll have to wait for them to fill your order...

Going Paulsons for a tourney set is expensive, since as you go up in denom, they can get pricey. Better to go CPC for a tourney set, since they're the same price regardless of what's on the inlay. You just pay for the spot levels. And the Key Wests are all the same spots. And should fall well within your budget. A Paulson set will also be used, whereas a CPC Key West set will be minty!!!! :)

All of my Paulson tourney sets are minty, thank-you-very-much.

Ok, but would it be safe to assume that a Paulson tourney set would cost more than say a Paulson cash set (same number of chips?)?

To accumulate 100's 500's and 1k chips in quantities for a larger tourney would be pricey. One of my rationalizations for going CPC for my tourney set.

Would love a CPC cash set, but I couldn't justify the expense...

Paulson still the cheapest option of the two for premium cash chips.

There's too many variables to make a general statement, I think. You don't have to do a T10k set that includes large numbers of $500 and $1000 chips to have a tournament set, like BGinGA said (and home Paulson high denoms don't generally carry a premium anyway, if you are considering that route). Stakes matter too. Paulson fracs can be just as crazy as $500s, especially if you want mint chips. Also, cash sets tend to have more chips per player than tournament sets, which affects the math in the end.

Also no reason that a 5-25-100-500 or 1-5-25-100 set can't be used for tournaments, and even a 25c-1-5-20 set plays just like a big-denom set.

^^^ THIS ^^^

25c-$1-$5-$25-$100 works pretty well also... One can pretty much mimic the 25/50 blind structure divided by 100...

Long time fan but first time poster. I'm looking for a great $1/2 and $2/5 chip set company. I've been looking into Knights, Nex Gen, and Paulson. I'm a novice so please excuse me if this knowledge is old. Any help however would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

The info on this thread is a year and a half old. Since then, Apache has come out with a new line of Dunes china clays which have gotten great reviews. CPC has begun stocking both hot stamped and inlaid chips which, along with the Key West chips are undoubtedly the highest quality chips readily available to the consumer.
If you're looking for something in the middle of the above mentioned chips and you're willing to wait, watch the classifieds for any Chipco sets that go up for sale - those are casino quality ceramics which seem to be selling for pretty cheap these days.
And finally The Chip Room will be offering a couple of small casino's worth of Paulsons sometime in the next few weeks - watch for the announcement of that sales date. If you can get in on that you'll probably be getting the best bang for your buck.

Define pricey..... under $2 per chip?

CPC offers brand spankin' new compression-molded clay chips with hot-stamps for as little as $1.22 per chip, or new clays with inlays and edge spots on various molds for as little as $1.47 per chip. Here are a few examples, all well under $2/chip if purchased in 500-chip quantities:

lol, you have no idea......

I have a few sets where $6/chip is the cheapest chip in the set.......

But those are collectable/rare chips I assume. Not something available to everyone at any time.
I obviously do not have the disposable income some people do as I cannot pay even $2 per chip for a set. Maybe some day.
