Starland Vocal Band -- now there's a blast from the past! DC locals Bill and Taffy Danoff. Bill became a well-known DC music producer, and still performs to this day. And of course he also wrote Take Me Home, Country Roads -- John Denver's hit. Denver got a writing credit after the fact for a few tweaks made during production.

{Trivia for any DC area folks who might not know: Danoff conceived and wrote the song while driving up Clopper Road through Seneca Creek State Park in Gaithersburg, MD.)

How it took me this long to find out about these guys, I'll never understand... Love me some Black Pistol Fire! :wow:

Edit: One more! :whistling:

Very good. If you haven’t heard Rival Sons, check them out. Along the same vein with a Zeppelin sound.

Four tracks from Let it Bleed, one of the great Stone albums.

This one is worth the almost 12 minutes. But if you can't take it, skip to about 8 minutes in and watch the magic that is Danny Carey.

and then Sound City. If you have never seen it, you need to.

Enjoy the frenetic guitar mastery of Wilko Johnson in the first 2 clips, he is one of a kind.

I always wanted to do an inlay with their logo :cool

And one from after Wilko left the band, still good but not quite the same....

Progressive band Porcupine Tree. I discovered them way too late...I’ve felt that they were almost a mix of Pink Floyd and Tool. :D
Gavin Harrison on drums is a master extraordinaire.

I guess this popped up on my radar today because Tim Minchin performed it on the BAFTA awards the other night.

I have to say I LOVE this song, this song WILL be played at my funeral.

Minchin is an Aussie comedian/musician mostly know for topical, offbeat, irreverent songs that are nothing like this. I originally heard this in the Australian TV series Upright, which if you ever get a chance to watch it is just a fantastic TV series.

Anyway here are 2 versions, the original version from the TV series as well as a version performed with Missy Higgins. Mary also released a solo version that is great as well.

It's slow, sappy and is a heart tugger but I don't care, freakin' enjoy it. :cool
