As might be guessed, my long missing camera turned up. So I can return to posting stuff from the orphanage.

Here we have a 2,000 chip rolling case. It's primary purpose is for the rare times I host a large ~30 to ~50 person tournament and want to tote my chips. This is really rare - like once every 3 years or so because it is a huge amount of thankless work. So I have mostly forgotten what is inside.

eight drawers, 250 chips each. Mostly full.

Photo Bomb by Buster!, a year old schnauzer puppy who loves stinky casino poker chips.

Wonder what's inside?

First two drawers:

500 solid grey Pausons. Mostly $1 chips from Bicycle Bill Card Room with a rack of cancelled T100 chips from the Silver Star. These are my level 1 chips and were selected because it wouldn't matter much if one or two got lost.

I think I have one of the only playable collections from Bicycle Bills, but as can be seen, they are worn to nothing. I did get one rack of mint $1 chips - one of the few mint chips I don't play to put into play.

Six more drawers . . . DrStrange

I'll predict our reactions when we're shown what's in the chest.

I recognized the AP Roulettes immediately. They were one of the first chips that I fell head over heels in love with. I couldn't find any at a price that I was willing to pay so I've never owned any, which is just as well because I wouldn't have been able to use them for anything other than an occasional fondling and photo shoot.

Drawers 5 and 6

PCA roulettes make up the rest of the tournament set. 250 dk blue, 200 rose.

These are used chips, mostly rather worn. Here are some of the best hot stamps.

As with the rest of the tournament chips - nothing too valuable.

A sign of days gone by - - - As I recall, I paid 12 or 15 cents per chip for the roulettes in a blow out Chip Room Sale.

Not every chip makes it safely home. Most sellers are terrible chip packers - as we are about to see

I had about a 1% loss rate on my Ambassador Plaza Roulettes. The packing wasn't good but no worse than normal. I thought it was interesting that in one case the edge spot popped out but in the other three cases the edge spot survived or even partially broke off as part of the damage.

Here are some close up views of the broken chips where we can see the thin inlays and also see what is under the inlay. The inlays seem a lot more like a thick cloth rather than a hard plastic.

PS I kept every piece of every broken chip, because I know someday I would want to know how things came together.

The green chip has a lot of the base color inside that V-insert. What does the insert that popped out of the other green chip look like from the side?

Abby, the insert is almost intact with no green on it. It looks like the insert was not fused to the base chip and failed exactly on the margins. I can't figure where the stress got applied to break out the insert without leaving some sort of damage at the point of impact.

For what it is worth - I got 500 AP Roulettes from a member to member sale on chip talk and 125 more off of an eBay auction. Paid $226 for 625 chips including shipping.

Last set of pictures incoming once my camera battery recharges.

PS I went back and examined that chip under a jewler's loop and can not find a clear point of impact. I did note the other insert was "split" , meaning the base chip color has been forced through the insert and left a thin line of base color spliting the edge spot in half.

Ah, I was wondering whether that insert was on its way to becoming split because that's pretty much how we expected split spots would happen (material flowing through the middle of the spot).

When I was thinking about buying them they were north of $2/chip, IIRC I thought about it but just couldn't pull the trigger. Looks like some prices have skyrocketed while others have plummeted over the years.

I think I bought the AP roulettes something like four years ago. I don't know that I could price them now - there are none for sale in bulk on eBay and haven't been for at least 5 months. I doubt it would be easy to replace my set if it could be done at all
