Whats your favorite coffee? (1 Viewer)

I’ve always wanted a French press. What did you get? And you still like it?
Just a basic/generic one. I love what it does for the flavor. Especially if I prepare it the night before. However laziness prevails and I sometimes fall back to the standard drip pot since that what I make Ben's coffee in every day. But yes I do still enjoy it

I have a couple of Bodum French presses and they are great. One is a smaller 4 cup model and the other is a larger 8 cup I believe
Like this?

That's genius. I wonder if you could use it for chilled coffee?

If you want to cold brew, then just put your grinds and water in it and put in fridge overnight. In the morning, add sugar if that’s your thing, then screw top on and press plunger

But honestly if you’re making cold brew, just make a gallon at a time since it’ll last for several weeks in the fridge.

How much beans do you use for a gallon?

I like bodums French presses even if they do cost a little more. Mainly because the entire plunger disassembles and you can clean each part. Not all French press plungers do that. And after a few uses, when you take it apart you can see some build up which you normally couldn’t wash out.

It's not really cold brew... lol
Ben likes room temp or not hot black coffee so I generally make his the night before in the drip pot. I'm just wondering if he could apply the same process with this, and perhaps get a stronger cup out of it. We have really strong coffee but he always jokes around saying he could dump the grinds in the cup too

Depends on your coffee. Personally I love cold brew made with cafe du monde. The arc yellow cans. It brews really dark and is pretty mellow because of the chickory. But with cold brew, the coffee should be much smoother since the cold water doesn’t extract the bitter tannins.

Room temp coffee? Wtheck?!!?

Revelation 3:15-16

I may have been making crap coffee all my life, but I’ve done quite a bit of it in French presses. I wouldn’t spend $35 on a French press. If you like the way it looks or something, fine.
They’re pretty basic devices; spend what you want. It would probably be tough to find a bad one.

He's an odd one. Likes it to get a nice oil slick on top almost as if it's old (which it kind of is)
But that's how he likes it haha

Bought mine from Walmart... does the trick just fine and all the press pieces disassemble for easy cleaning

Same here.

Also love the Trade Coffee subscription. All kinds of different coffee to explore.

I used to use French press all the time, but then switched to the chemex. I use a stainless steel micro strainer as well since I hated using paper filters

But when I started to really enjoy coffee with an aeropress. It doesn’t make enough coffee for the day, but it tastes the best to me.

I don’t need more coffee gadgets.

Haven't tried the aeropress yet. I will have to pick one up.

I like the oils too from unwashed beans. Some people don’t like the oils since they can be bitter.

I’ve tried those deathwish coffees and there pretty good, but cafe du monde has still brewed way darker for me with half the grinds

For the hardcore coffee snobs. Try Heart Roasters in Portland or Brandywine in Delaware

We have had cafe du monde @joeyshin it was good... but I am a weirdo, everyone talks about taking out the bitter and I want more! The strongest nastiest oil slick at room temperature and always black! Lol

I have seriously debated adding grinds in because I drink the "mud" at the bottom of the pot. Addicted to caffeine but more so I love the flavors.

I have heard it many times that my great grandfather would add 4 bags of instant coffee to his everyday. Religiously called all coffee "dish water" I'm guessing it runs in the family... but my dad literally makes the lightest brew possible, pours 4 ounces of coffee into a large cup, fills it with milk and literally 8 plus scoops of sugar. He thinks what Brie and I drink is Gross! Haha

@buffalojim I used to drink a shit ton of Newman's brother, wonderful natural flavor. I like coffee, not infused with blah blah and hints of blah blah... just coffee flavor. Newman's is exactly that! But never try the stronger stuff, there is no going back once you are hooked on Deathwish whole beans and grind your own.

Coffee flavored coffee, I'm with you. The stronger the better. I've thought of trying some stronger coffee I've seen at the store but just couldn't justify the price for 12 cups, so much more expensive. I really don't need another expensive hobby lol :D

You don't until you do, and once you do you can't go back.

Honestly it seems expensive at first because you end up "trying" alot of stuff, but alot of these big name brands have monthly subscriptions and offer discounts. Death wish has a monthly subscription and you get a certain percentage off your order every month. They also allow you to accumulate points which can be cashed in for discounts or promotions. I Honestly don't think I could enjoy a standard cup of coffee anymore, Starbucks sucks, DD sucks, 711 ROFO all suck. Freaking water flavored coffee water lmao

Death Wish in a bag pre ground or in K cups is very different that full beans. You run your hands through these beans and you have to wash your hands from the oils. @joeyshin is not wrong though... the way they get the claim of "worlds strongest coffee" is that you literally have to use twice as much to get to that level.

Brie and I use about 2/3 of what they call for, even that is an expensive pot of coffee, I only drink about 28 ozs per day... I don't allow myself additional, again it is expensive and I would literally drink it all day and my heart would explode.

If you just like coffee flavor but strong, I do suggest trying the Death Wish, there are many others that are great coffee, just not the same strength.

You're not helping, pusher haha! Ignorance is bliss in some cases. I really enjoy my Newmans and I am definitely a fan of Starbucks. Maybe it's better this way ;)

Next time I'm at the store I'll grab a box if they have it, I think I've seen it before. There really is nothing better than a delicious cup of strong black coffee. When I used to smoke they would go together like peanut butter and jelly.

Thanks for this info though!
