Who still has their first chip set?!? (2 Viewers)

When me & my housemate used to host Sit-N-Go tournaments (remember those?) years ago, I initially had no clue what to do so I copied the Party Poker SnG structure almost verbatim. Starting stack of 1,500 & the blinds began at 10/15, 15/30, 25/50 etc.

Purchased these directly from Jim circa 2006. I already knew I was getting a steal on those bear claws for $89.95 + shipping - because the only other bear claws that I knew of were at Cache Creek and they wanted $100/chip for theirs.

And I thought I was a baller in the 80s with my plastic top hat set cause the only other chips I saw were those thin Hoyle ones!

Interesting denominations - did you choose them?
Haha, I was being very facetious, and the denoms gave that away ;) Yeah, we chose those denoms and colors, we were young and dumb :D I'm surprised we didn't try and go for a $0.75 chip.

Par-a-dice set for me and one of my favs hence why I am hesitant to give them up, even though I have moved on to another set for our main use.

Oh wow I complete missed that! All I saw were baller chips regardless of the denominations. Normally I get jokes but this chip addiction is taking a toll ;)

IIRC, the denominations we used in the 80s were:

.05 white
.10 red
.25 blue

Rules:

-.05 ante
- Each player could re-raise once
- .05-.25 spread limit.

I have our house rules written on the back of the box, it's too embarrassing to show lol  :ROFLMAO:

This is the lineup of my first set The Donkey Club Casino. There are Cash and Tournament chips on the diamond suited chips from Chipsandgames.com. I looked and they are still around. The labels I got from Slamdunk labels which no longer exists, but they had some really nice labels and they did only Poker Chip labels. I still have all my chips.

I had a few thousand of these Donkey Club chips as I ran fairly large tournaments in my old house. My basement was unfinished, but huge. The largest tournament I had was about 80 people. 10 tables of 8. I had 3 poker tables at the time and the rest were Costco tables. About 2-3 cash games followed some of my tournaments. The Tournament Director software was awesome. My events were fully catered and always a good time. I miss those days. This was of course pre marriage and kid in the early 2000s.

An acrylic button I had AP on here create for me in 2018 as a tribute to my old set.

Found my proofs and I have a Blue $50 chip for who knows what reason. I couldn't find the actual chips as the ones with the $50s are in storage probably in the Garage in a chips case somewhere.

So, back when the poker boom hit a company (Nationwide Poker Tour) started in many states, Indiana being one of them. They used these chips in all of the freeroll tournaments, and I got a set shortly after. I met a lot of amazing people and learned to play the game this way (often playing almost every night of the week!). Only thing I didnt have were the yellow chips, which were of 5k value. Still have these but honestly only used the entire set maybe 20 times. Not worth anything except nostalgia for me :)

I still have mine, my first set was CDI98, with 800 chips to start, now almost 2400 chips and still growing.

That's a very nice first chipset. People usually start off with Crappy chips, but you were like that kid in High school who shows up with his first car a brand new Corvette or a Mustang while everyone else show up in their parents station wagon or parents SUV,

Yeah, I lucked out and bought them from a store going out of business in Vegas in 1999. I knew when I started playing poker, that I wanted casino quality chips as I used some other type chips from friends. Saw these and fell in love with them. I looked at other Paulson fantasy sets, Nevada Jacks (clays), Martini Club and other clays, which I still have those sample sets as well but these just spoke to me. I also when out and got a 10 person table as well, will dealer spot and tray and slot for drop box. If I was smarter I would have bought more of them but I am sure there a many of here saying that as well.

I sold my dice chips ages ago. But still have my first "real" chips from a ChipTalk group buy circa 2013... the CPS (Championship Poker Series) China Clays.

I sold most of them off over the years, abut kept a 500-chip set for the memories.

I remember this buy, it was right around the time I joined CT. I also remember thinking "that's way too much money to spend on chips"... Lol

First set was dice chips around 2000 or so (still have it). Played with those 2-3 times a year until this year.

Then....all hell broke loose. Started with Nevada Jacks skulls in March, to China Clay pharoahs, HSI Secondaries, and just this past week...Rounders tournament set.

Smh.

And I blame all of you.

My first set of "cool" chips, still ABS slugged plastic

better than nasty dice chips (which many locals games were still playing) anytime the family got together to play they would ask "can you bring the awesome chips" lol! Not a great breakdown as we always play tourney, but we made do with a T1 based 500 starting stack.

They sat untouched for years as life took me away from poker for a while. One day I decided to start teaching Brie to play, but we didn't play against each other. Many years ago I came up with a solitaire game I call "break the bank" basically structured betting against a ghost dealer. It wasn't long before we needed more chips because we were easily breaking the bank with 2 players. I went on eBay and started looking to expand the set...

Way too many denoms, used CPS China clay Nickles, another brand of slugged chips for quarters and $.50s. All they way to the right are CPS 25k. 100k, 500k and 1 Mil... what a mess this set was. The newer version of the "welcome to vegas" were not the same quality as the chips I had bought years before.

Talking to the Fam there was intrest in playing again so we decided to "up grade" to Monte Carlos Slugged chips

Again no I dea what I was doing, too many denoms and the break down was awful... kept adding on and now that set looks like

Kicked out the T10s and 50s... this set saw 1 - 8 player game... the return of poker to our family though...

I have always been obsessed with Casino Royale and Bond related things... I then found the 08 ABS slugged plastic Casino Royale chips. They were still here and there on a few websites for around $.50 per chip, but finding all of the denoms had me serching high and low.

This set is also ridiculous in size and has yet to see felt time. This was my dream deep stack set! Not all of the inlays mat h as later the same chips were used in a different line.

While hunting those I found pictures online of Chips that I didn't know what they were (Casino Royale) custom CPCs designed and owned by @Phantom ... I was obsessed! Sti hope to find a set one day! All of the pictures had been posted on some site called the "pokerchipforum.com so Brie and I decided to make accounts.

I at this point had seen several pictures of the 05 CDIs... but though now way am I paying $3 a chip for poker chips... I woke up one morning to a listing of 200 05 CdIs for about $2.50 per chip listed by @HawaiiChips ... I decided maybe I can build a small special occasion set... we all know what that turned In to...

We have slowed down, but definitely been a crazy roller coaster of emotions since joining!

Sometimes I wonder how life would be now if we had never found this place.. at least we would have money... but I wouldn't trade it for the world! Chipping is our life now, not that chips really matter. The Monte Carlos would have been good enough for our group for the rest of our life, but what an amazing group of friends we have come to find in the chipping community!

For the record, Brie mentioned China Clay above, I believe she meant ABS slugged plastics. the few hundred CPS chips above and a sample set of Royals are the only CC chips ever in our collection. Though we have added a few other chips along the way!! Lol
Just think you and @FordPickup92 could be driving around in a Ford VelociRaptor if you hadn't found this place. This community is better having you two in it though!

OMG... she is going to be noooo good seeing that thing! Wow what an amazing looking machine!!

Probably true Mike, but wouldn't trade this hobby and all of our friends for anything now. Took a long time to find this place. Collected a lit of things over the years! But we are here to stay!

Other than the fact that I was worn out, drunk and exhausted... this picture means more to me with you bottom left, @FordPickup92 , some random drunk guy, @Senzrock ... and unfortunately Derek was hiding there in the bottom right corner! @juankay20 ... 2 days of poker and no pics of us! Lol always next time!

Anyways, this means more to me than a awesome truck man!

BTW my favorite shot of the weekend of @Irish and myself

Don't even remember who took this one, but going to have it printed out one day and on the wall!

Much Love for my Jersey/NY and yes Even Boston @72o my brother Al!

If its these memories or the truck! Keep the truck bro! Lol

For the record I completely suck at playing poker... no chance I can own/afford both... otherwise absolutely on the truck! Haha
