Have you ever wondered?

I think about poker chips about 10 times more than I actually think about the game of poker itself.

I guess I am curious why the bug has bit me and why it's such a huge thing in my life now.

How did this happen?

Short answer: science. Chipping engages three of your senses and for most of us chipping is associated with positive memories. It's easy to be repeatedly and recursively drawn to something that combines all that. IDK if it's true "addiction", per se, but I wouldn't doubt it on some level - particularly the physical/kinesthetic.

Ya Ive been down this road before asking it in a thread and you will get as many different answers as there are members on here.

To me its the beauty art-likeness of them. The feel and sound when you splash and move them around in a pot. I would have to say my sense of hearing is top on the list, then feel and then sight.

Good answers. Something about feel and colors and sound and the uniformity of the chips being all the same size and dimension.

It does feel like an appreciation of an art form. Like we are all art collectors in a gallery looking for ways to decorate our homes.

Oh...i never realized there was science behind the addiction. I just thought it was fun to taste all the varieties of dye and finger gunk!

I respect so much the guys that absolutely don't give a fuck about playing with high quality chips or dices... don't know how they do.
Personnaly when I play with dices I'm tilting so much that I always spew everything haha.

I guess the good answers have been told here, I'm agreed with the science thing... Maybe the love of the material objects is stronger than the poker game too :p

I always just played with dice chips..until a coworker showed me some pics of sets he was looking at. For some reason, I got all psyched up and dropped $700 in just a week. This was all last week :( Hopefully, I am one and done and here just to browse.

You are not done - you have just begun.

I wanted to be done 11 years ago....

Still here - some sets I have bought 3 different times!

dont forget smell....admit it i know many of you have opened a case of chips grabbed a barrel of minty paulsons and stuck em up to your nose...(y)

just writing this i can recall that smell in my mind.....no im not addicted.:p

Someone needs to take control of all my financial avenues for buying chips or I'm going to be living out of USPS flat rate boxes...

i have already scoped out the neighborhood for people that buy new refridgerators so i can take the super large box down to the river and use it for an addition to my "van down by the river" mansion of the future if i keep up with the chippys..i will let you know if i see an extra for you..:p

ps...those $4.95 small flat rate boxes make great gloves for the winter:unsure:

Fasten your seatbelt, you are in for one helluva ride!

11 years for me to, and I'll be darn if I can figure it out.

Couple yrs ago started collecting singles and sets from Horseshoe Casino's in Nevada.

i dont know what makes them so addicting but i can show you what caused mine....this is where is all started with my very first paulsons, then i was hooked.....

a) very very first fabulous las vegas fitty cent chips bought from tony pap who directed me to CT...dam you tony, bought to shuffle while playing full tilt real $$ back in Feb 2008 when i got that itch

b) horseshoe quarters, when you could not find any casino quarters of course i had to buy a bunch
c) money trees, when i heard the letters TRK, had to try it....whoa stay away from these, they have a heroin like high you will never kick
d) little caesars quarters...again more quarters when there were none
e) dunes, the only time i have shown some restraint in building a set from a barrel, but then i still think about it...like my crack addiction

here are the responsible parties and i still hold them today;)

Lol good to know I'm not alone. And I got parts for my table delivered to my office yesterday (Chip tray, rake slide, legs, money paddle, cup holders) and my co-workers looked at me like I was nuts.

So it's even worse when you're working on your table or a custom set

If you need to add to your addiction, I may or may not have some Paulson FLV chips for sale but can't post them yet because I just joined the forum. Contact me if interested! :)

Warning: unethical POS ^^ buyers beware

I was just thinking of this a few days ago when trying to design CPC chips. Like what is really going on here:

While all the other things mentioned so far are valid, I think the underlying pleasure is the obsession with the circle. The circle is a sacred symbol of infinity of to which all of reality is tied, no? Familiar with pi? Everything about the circle is infinite, contains all numbers, all possibilities, all of time, space, existence, everything, ad infinitum and beyond. And then - in the material world - a beautiful piece of craftsmanship that you can design? Color and divide it how you please to match and express the vibrations of your own soul????

Plus it represents material value... what we use to insulate ourselves from the danger one has faced since they exited the womb...

The Circle is the Face of God.

Speaking of addiction... I noticed two things happening to me as of late... Keep in mind that I'm only 3 months into this...

1) If I go 10 minutes without checking the classifieds, I feel like I may have missed out on the next big thing... My phone doesn't leave my side now... Not because of a possible family emergency, but because I may miss a classified post...

2) If I go more than 3-4 days without a nice USPS flat rate box showing up in my mailbox, I get grumpy...

I need help...
