Why do people have multiple chips sets? (2 Viewers)

Chips are addictive.

Why do people have multiple shoes? They could probably get by with 2-3 pair.

I’ve even seen some people collect sneakers they will never wear!

Haha welcome @Timmah. What chips do you currently have?
I just purchased 1700 Nevada Jacks. $.25 - $5000. Enough for tournament games and our dealer choice cash games.

I ask myself, “Why do I own two cash sets when my group never plays cash games?“ Fortunately for me, they are cheap sets, so it’s not a big deal. And I’ll be ready if my players change their tune.

And now that I own a custom CPC tournament set, I seriously doubt my other two tournament sets will get used. I could sell one, but not sure that I want to because it was my first clay set, it’s broken-in nicely, and I put a lot of time into it. I don’t think it would be possible to sell my other set, because it’s a China clay set with custom labels. My break-even price would be way higher than entry-level chip buyers would want to spend.

I thought I was done when I had Tina’s.

Then I thought I was done when I had CPCs

Definitely done after a mill/label job

Then I got a Majestic Star set built, that was my finish line

Then I promised myself I was done when I had IGs, no more chips

I realized I was surely done when I bought ASTs - this was it

But then I guaranteed myself to be done when I started the HotRod made of lead, peak of the mountain, just stop here, done

But then I needed to finish up with Tigers

My final set was a custom CPC tournament set, obvious ending here….

I had to snap buy a solid set, because that would be it for me.

But my final end all be all would be a Sundance house mold cash set

……….. Now I’m done ……….. :ROFLMAO:

I have a ceramic tribute set....because I don't have six figures to drop on the real thing, and I like the look of the chips.
I grabbed a set from a TCR sale (you'll figure that one out) - because it was a good deal on good chips that weren't ugly (at least - to me).
I picked up a couple racks of chips 'cause they were bargain priced. And then added the others to it to make a set.
I have a crap ton of misc. racks that "just need xxxx more racks to make it a set". These are typically because I liked the look of a chip/rack I saw, and then figured it needed completing.
Picked up a set ".....for a friend...."
Needed a $1 cash set.
"Hey honey, I can flip these and make bank!" (and yet.....haven't listed them yet)
Needed a 25T set.
TCR had yet another Black Friday sale, and I was quick with the keyboard buttons. It was more of a challenge to see if I could get a set. Go me!
I had to have the chips that went with the totally awesome dealer buttons I picked up (here) - because you can't use a dealer button that doesn't match the chips.
Solids? Dang, I don't think I have a set of solids yet!
Rotating chips ensures that your shifty-a$$ brother-in-law ain't gonna try and sneak into play that $1000k chip that 'disappeared' last match-up. It's for ...security....

So I’ve seen several posts talking about how people have multiple sets of chips. I understand having a cash set and a tournament set… or one set that can cover both. But what is the purpose of having more than one set of each? I see people posting that they have 5 or as many as 10 tournament sets. They also state that some sets have never been felted. I personally don’t see the point of having chips you don’t use. Convince me otherwise…
Because it’s a hobby. That’s what people do.
