The lineup itself is great and so is this particular set but the fact that all the other $5s outside of this and I think one other set, are nicked up tires, drops it at least half a letter grade for me.

Did we ever figure out why they work so oddly aka the $1/$5 nicks were so deep?

PS that orange chip was perfect for it, really sets the rest of the colors off nicely.

I used to work in the casino industry. I'm pretty sure the reason that the nicks/flea bites on the $1s/$5s are deeper than they are for any of the higher denom chips is because they're used as tokes (tips). When a dealer receives a chip as a tip from a player, it is customary in many regions for the dealer to 'say thank you' by taking the chip, turning it sideways, and tapping it against the edge of the toke box before dropping it inside. It makes a loudish noise and is usually accompanied by a head nod or a verbal 'thank you' and is the dealer's way of acknowledging the tip (and may have originally started as a gesture for the cameras). Many dealers perform this custom pretty aggressively, effectively slamming the edges of the chip into the sharp metal edges of the toke box. Over time, it can make these chips look like they've been sucked up by a lawnmower. The same thing happened to the $1s from Horseshoe Cleveland. I explained this to people back when the HS chip room sale happened a few years ago, when they were all asking about those being so beat up, but I just got a bunch of eye rolls from people. Anyhow, it's definitely the reason for specific denoms being beaten up and not others from many casinos in the US. Which casinos and regions that applies to, I don't know though.

Empress Joliet set
Casablanca (THC) set
Ambassador Plaza set
PCA secondary set
Claim Stake set
Silver Strike set
