Meanwhile, the love for the Outposts continues to confound me. They do nothing for me, personally - but that’s part of the beauty of this hobby.

It's an uphill battle for them relative to the competition, but I like the Outposts because they are just a great combo of unique for a Cali set. Using the brown one and going with the classic Vegas red five is unconventional, but works. Then you have those $2s that are one of my favorite chips out there, with the $20s and $100s rounding out an old and classic Cali set. Some more recent pics of them captures how sharp they really are. The three missing, the Pacheco (second favorite out of all Outposts) and error/$25s, are great too.

I would be curious to see how they place if there was an aggregate of everyone's full list rankings.

Fun research fact; most humans cannot cognitively rank more than 4 things accurately.

That’s why a research technique using the principles of MaxDiff was invented, to help get to accurate rankings of items. It shows respondents a list of items, but only in pairs.

You have to choose which of the pair you prefer. This continues for a while, as you state your preference for one of two items from the list, and the pairings are generated at random from the list. Once the list has been paired enough, you then will have a mathematically and statistically sound way of seeing what the actual rankings of a large list are.

Only a few publicly available tools allow for the execution of a MaxDiff study, AYTM is one of them. I’ll see if I can build one today.

When I was younger I did work with minimas and perception, specifically related to asceticism. A number of these sets are different however using similar palettes and themes. Still useful for grouping data and would be interesting to see how it would relate to these chipping results. Are there factors that are different between chips but essentially below the threshold for perception in chipping?

I'm interested in what your results would show about things like 'favorite cali colors' or 'favorite inlays/shape of inlay.' Could you, in theory, build a composite of 'PCF's favorite chip'.

Don’t have a ranking yet. I like them all for different reasons. My life would be emptier without each.

In terms of what’s next, my current want list includes a ton of stuff, but these notably:

Empress Joliet set
Casablanca (THC) set
Ambassador Plaza set
PCA secondary set
Claim Stake set
Silver Strike set

Think I should call an early retirement?

Not the time for retirement yet, but you're getting 'old' ... Frankly, you've done more in a few short months than most have done in 10 or 20 years, hence you may be getting closer to retirement and chipping nirvana, but given your incredible OCD, I doubt you're even close to being 'done'.

There are still a few things that you may want to consider, in your pre-retirement age : Customs are a must. Whether it's a one of a kind GPI set or a unique CPC set, anyone who can afford one (which clearly you can ) should have at least one custom set, maybe more. I am not a huge fan of the way most CPC chips feel, and most agree there is no comparison to leaded, shaped inlay THC chips, but there is something magnificently special about a custom set...it's unique...it's yours... and you've spent hours, days and months trying to match the right spot pattern with the right color scheme, not to mention designing your own inlay, and it comes in exactly the right denoms and size you want. Some of the HOF CPC sets are, again, in my opinion, better than many 'incomplete' and worn-out Paulson sets.

And yes, as a collector, some of the sets you mentioned are a must have, not just 'nice' to have: It would be sinful not to own a large set of the Casablanca with the myriad of denoms and color combination. And the AP $500s and $1Ks are simply two of the best chips ever made, with the 'muted' $100s and $25s, two very under-rated chips... the set is simply irresistible, especially if it can be found in mint condition.

And talking about some of the absolute best Paulson leaded, shaped inlay THC chips ever made: The PCA $5-$500s and the Aztar MO $25s and $100s. But both sets are 'incomplete' and no one has ever taken on the project of creating a complete set, by finding the right leaded THC chips to mill for higher and lower denoms (Dan - @bentax1978 did a magnificent job with the AS T5s as the $5s for the Aztar MO set and I did the AS T5000s, but neither one is old-school leaded chip... and I don't believe anyone has done a frac, $500, $1K, or $5K, for example).

Great journey so far... awesome pictures... and IN for the first post-vaccine game in LA.

EDIT: yes, there are many Aztar MO and PCA sets out there and the chips aren't as hard to come by as the Giraffes, RVCLs or Starlites, but a 'complete' and what I would call a semi-custom version of those two sets would be HOF GOAT versions of each respective set... such deliciousness

It’s funny, when I first got into chipping the Outposts were at the bottom of all Paulson lists. They were the cheapest Casino Chips on the market and abundantly available on eBay. There was a guy selling 1000 chip sets for $399 for the longest time. They were used condition and really dirty (pre ultrasonic) so definitely not the same as Krish’s set, but they still didn’t get much love.

First meetup I went to in Boston, we played with Outposts. I always loved the brown $1s, but never owned a set. I do wonder where all those chips are today.
