Windwalker’s Chipping Journey in Pr0n0grAph1C Detail (11 Viewers)

Been working on a set of Jessie Beck’s Riverside for a bit, and I’m close. Just need a rack or two more of $5s. Particularly happy with the condition and quantity of the snappers and the hundos, which are relative rarities.

Those $5s look like the stars of the show. I hope you are able to find some more.

@Johnblue and I did a denom swap with his amazing new Goodwill find, and I thought it was as good a time to post some updated Pr0n as any.

My Horseshoe Gardena set with shaped inlay $5s, $25s, $50s and hundos. Not pictured are my black $20s, because they’re somewhere far back in one of the cabinets and I can’t find them. :)

Both are earmarked for relabel projects.
If you happen to have more Aurora Star Tournament Hot Stamp T5s than you need please let me know. As you may or may not be aware a lot of folks who have AS HS sample sets are missing the T5. I'd happily buy the excess off of you and run a giveaway to make those sample sets whole. Something like 'your entry into the giveaway is a picture with your username on it and your AS HS sample set without it's T5'.

This thread has been super helpful!

Shows me what’s out there and the progression of what seems like a great guy’s journey through this hobby.

I’ve been tempted to like posts from many many pages back, but is that akin to liking a social media post from ages ago  :ROFLMAO:

(112 -ignore this - it’s just the page I’m on in case I lose it)

There’s something about this set that’s so interesting and whimsical to me. I was recently able to add 4 more racks (not pictured, currently in @JeepologyOffroad’s clinic for restoration) which makes it pretty playable for a smaller 1/1, 2/5 or maybe even a 5/5 game.

The $1s are bike tires and the Cali colors were only followed up to the $5s, but I still love it.

The Doc’s cardroom opened in San Diego in 1984, and closed in 1988. By the mintiness of the $20s and the hundos, I would assume it was a low-stakes cardroom. They have a very ugly solid hotstamped frac as well, but nothing in great condition that I’ve been able to find.

seems like a few split spots on these.

nice set either way

Noticed that. That’s a manufacturing defect, yes?
Reading about it with CPC sets it's seen as an acceptable defect to a certain degree by the manufacturer, but some people aren't happy if their chips are riddled with it.

I don't know how Paulson views it when it happens. I for one actually like the rawer edges that you see on these sets where the spot is mixing a bit with the base material. If it means sometimes you get split spots, just the cost of doing business maybe? It doesn't seem you see as 'messy' or spots or anywhere near the split spots in modern sets which goes to this set being 35+ years old.

Either way, I like them a lot. Not to mention 1/1 or 1/2 is more my speed than some of the stakes for your sets.

Awesome get.

That set is making me drool, very nice set. The Grannys are awesome. How is the world do you find all these old set in great condition? WOW!!!!

I’m all caught up!
  • This thread is an interesting microcosm of the internet
  • I really enjoyed the pictures
  • Cool meet-ups, wish I could be there! I would get cleaned out playing all those insane formats
  • I also am starting to appreciate the simplicity and vintage vibe of hot stamps
  • The amount of effort Krish put forth to scour the world for chips is more impressive to me than his collection, which is awesome (the original definition, not today’s overused and diluted interpretation)
