Hmm. Then maybe the real opportunity is to go out and find a bunch of new undiscovered boat sets.

There are 195 decommissioned / cancelled cruise ships that ran under various flags between 1989 and 1996. Over 150 of them have no mention on PCF or anywhere else for tokens or chips. Would be cool to find a bunch of chips from those ships... fun winter project.

We've heard some bad stories about some of the defunct day cruise casino boats out of Florida. When they went out of business, rather than have to deal with auction/storage, some of their gaming equipment was dumped out at sea. One guy rescued boxes of chips by chasing down some people who were carrying them out on a pier and about to dump them into the water.

I suppose this is not much different from old Vegas stories about chips being dumped into Lake Mead.

I once got a case full of CDI98 that was pulled out of a storage locker (not by me). Got a good deal, but not exactly dimes on the dollar.

In all sincerity, the best odds of finding another big score lie in tracking down the old owners of these boats and inquiring about what happened to the old casino gear. That's how the Giraffe's were unearthed. Sitting in the attic for years until one of the ex-wives (I think) of the old owner sold them to a consignment shop and the consignment shop threw them on eBay and make more money on them that they could have imagined.

Not the exact story, but close. And yes, undiscovered chips require finding the people who are most likely to have them in the first place. In any hobby, i always hunt for people, not the collectible.

I think the clear next move is to start your own local card room/casino so you can design your own chips! And then change those chips up every 2 years or so
