A friend, pub trivia teammate and budding herpetologist went to Australia last month. She was a kid in a candy store chasing all sorts of reptiles we just don't see around here. After hours, she explored some of the local brews and went out of her way to bring these three back for an evening of recounting some of the stories, sharing photos, and a chance for
us to try these.
When she sent pictures of these while she was there, I said I was going to bring the empty cans home as the names and labels were just too good.
(fronts and backs, respectively)
All three were quite good and clearly their takes on these three styles. Both knife IPAs were a fantastic change from what I'm used to. A bit more roast on the malt than we usually see, adding something different that makes them stand out at least to my palate. In the glass, my initial take was it was a light amber, but knew different as soon as I was able to smell and taste the hops.
The spoon was a nice hazy, and maybe their take on a NEIPA having seen reference to them. Very different than the NEIPAs we're used to here in the states.
We all thanked her profusely for mule-ing
nine beers back from halfway across the planet. We went through six with the last three waiting until one last member of the group returns from travel.
Suffice it to say, definitely
not Fosters!
