Went and saw the in-laws for Christmas. Since we drove due to the current situation, I was able to bring home a couple of growlers of one of my favorite beers “El Lobo Rojo”!!

There has been a demand for pickle beer so we came up with one that is all natural. It is a Gose made with cucumber extract, dill, coriander, pepper, salt and just a touch of pickle juice added.
We had our first canning run which will be about 700 cases which hit retail on January 18. I had a fresh one off the line at about 9:30 this morning.
I am not a big pickle beer fan but it is pretty good.

when you say ‘a demand for pickle beer’. Was it one guy late at night that had a heavy smell of weed about him?

Line off 100's waiting for the release of a pickle beer in South Texas. Largest Retailer in Texas comes to us saying no one can keep up with the demand. We come up with a pickle gose. Not sure what the draw to this is because the one I tasted from a competitor tasted like carbonated pickle juice. We came up with one that actually tastes like beer. This one you can actually have more than one of were the other is hard to stomach more than one.

WOW. yeah the Gose/ Sour people have an acquired taste.

Ive tried a couple sours that people concidered good, but it never really appealed to me.

I guess Pickle is next level up for these guys.

So should I assume this does not taste like straight up pickle juice right out of the jar like the one New Braunfels makes? If so, I'm definitely in. Nothing better than a good Gose, and a "touch" of pickle juice sounds excellent. Will this make it to Houston, or San Antoine area only?

Dude, pickle beers have been the rage for a few years, at least in Texas.

This one started it at least 3 years ago, maybe longer:

Then this one from a Dallas area brewer:

Quite a few smaller micro breweries have also taken a shot at it. My wife and daughter barely drink any other sour beers, but love this stuff. It's a little too over the top for me, which I why I'm looking forward to trying this new one.

We will be in 338 H‑E‑Bs in Texas which is everyone. If you have one here you will find it there. They should be available starting the 18th.

Only problem is they both taste like carbonated pickle juice which means it’s hard to drink more than one. We tried to do ours from a craft perspective and not just take a gose and dump hundreds of gallons of pickle brine in there.
One item to note is we are working on a new label which we can use the words “pickle juice” since the company that we use has that word trademarked. All others have to say pickle brine or they get. Cease and desist.
pkl fir has been around since 2015 but the company that produces it does not have very good distribution much like the one brewed by Martin House which is the Bestmaid brand. We are lucky to have great Distributer partners as well as a very good relationship with the largest grocer in Texas.

As a craft beer fanatic and a home brewer, I really appreciate this approach. It's easy to just dump adjuncts into a beer to make it taste like something unusual. Much more challenging and rewarding to use appropriate brewing ingredients and processes. I will definitely buy this as soon as I see it in my local HEB.
