2024 New Chip Releases (3 Viewers)

Question: In the last few years, how many casinos have added new THCs? Have any?

I see in recent posts almost entirely RHCs, ceramics or other non-clays, but maybe I missed some new THC release(s).

Is this because Paulson THC pricing is prohibitive, or because casinos are cheap?

I have a theory but that's all it is.

If you were a casino manager placing an order, would you care about the mold if it wasn't a 'house mold'? I imagine not.

One would think ceramic chips would be considerably cheaper to produce in quantity.

Casinos probably only care about 2 things: security and branding. The chips are basically a commodity - one the general public doesn't pay much attention to.

After seeing the situation at Paris, my theory that casino's don't care about design very much. 3 years ago Paris came out with awesome THCs with an inlay and we harvested the shit out of them... to the point they had to replace inventory only 3 years later. So this time around, they came out with RHC hotstamps. I can only imagine they were chosen since they are cheaper to manufacture and less attractive to harvesters.

Same with the Bally's THC $1s... when they rebranded to Horseshoe the new chips were pretty uninspiring RHCs.

I honestly don't know why the various molds exist... why is it necessary to offer RHCs, THCs, SCVs, LCVs, IHCs, etc.? I suspect RHCs are cheaper only because they're the most common, so the others cost more because of the additional fees required to switch molds.

Or perhaps the other molds are more labor intensive, require more raw materials or perhaps generate more waste in the form of rejects? I don't know.

Counter-point: many casinos offer limited edition chips, knowing they pay (just a guess) around $1 each and collectors snap them up at $5 each from the cage. 5x profit just because they buy pretty chips from Paulson.

The casinos are not against the public collecting chips, but the days of $1 THCs may be gone.

I have been going to Vegas each June for the convention and picking up chips across Vegas for years. One thing I had never seen is a casino change the design and then go back to it until this year. The Bellagio and Aria both did reorders of 1.00 chips and neither of them was the Hot stamp version. The cage in the poker room at Bellagio was so upset with the hot stamps they got they were looking to get as many of them out of circulation. So when they reordered this past year they went back to the 2nd issue inlay style. Even though they are not H&C they were not the hot stamps. We also have to keep in mind that Caesars and MGM own most of the strip properties so when they change the style of chips it usually follows across most of the properties (Large Inlay to Small Inlay to Hot Stamp. I would also put some stock in the fact that COVID and supply issues might have played a role in the types of chips they could produce. The number of Limited Edition chips has fallen to a trickle and the I have heard the Gaming Commission has cracked down on some (just what I have heard but no proof.) It would be interesting to see what the Vendors are saying at the G2E that is coming up soon.

Will Vegas casinos still have any year of the dragon chips floating around? Visiting in October and I'd love to pick some up.

Bummed they quit doing $8 chips. That was a gaming commission thing right?

I thought the Binions might be Tina.

But I see the icon logo, so yes, Icon.

That Rio $1k would make a great $20 if they were cheaper haha. The $5K is the new uneven spot pattern and dreadful but the inlay is nice!
