Cash Game .25 Chips/How Many (1 Viewer)

Ones are fun :) especially when you have 6-10 racks of em

So you say...

Love fracs and dollars for low stakes games. It just depends on your buy-ins. Anything under $50 buy-in deserves a bunch of fracs and dollars. Just my opinion of course and I'm definitey in the minority around here.

You likely want 200 ones. If your game plays small, you could get away with:

0.25 x 100
1 x 200
5 x 100

With that bank, 0.25/0.25 blinds probably makes more sense. Add another rack of 5’s as money allows.

Thanx Chubby. I'll probably go with this one and then just add little bit more 0.25s and 1s. For now we only played tournaments as guys didnt want to play cash. But somehow I made them to paly cash also, and that's why I have to ask what dominations to buy. I hope we will have 0.5/1 running also in some time and then I will defenitely need more 1s and 5s.

+1 for bigger amounts of small denoms as well :)

I mean, if you have more you can always also decide to not bring all of them to the table for whatever reason. Vice versa that's not so easy, especially when it's about custom chips.

If you’re trying to keep costs down, and expand the set for more range, stay with one rack of quarters and add more 1’s and 5’s as needed. Especially since you mentioned blinds going up.

If the BB is $1 you should expect people to want to buy in for at least $100 if they are trying to play optimal. This is where $5 chips start to be your “workhorse” and you’ll really need a couple racks likely.

The breakdown question was already answered above for an optimal 800 piece set. Start with my
Suggestion of 400 then build towards @gopherblue ’s suggestion.

Just to help clarify, the amount of fracs will differ between 0.25/50 and 0.5/1. Like others have mentioned, if you’re mostly doing 0.25/0.5, two racks of fracs will do just fine and then your $1’s will kick in as your workhorse probably halfway through the night if not earlier.

Once you play 0.5/1, you’re less likely to use fracs that long before both your 1s and eventually 5s become your workhorse chips. If your frac is a 0.25, you can still use both those racks for that game but you won’t be needing anymore once the betting starts increasing from say 3x the BB to something like 7-8x. If you want to future proof your cash set, have three racks of 1s and three racks of 5s and I’m sure it’ll accommodate anywhere between a $20-$100 buy in just fine.

Nope. It makes absolutely no difference between these two stakes.

Again, nope.

In a 0.50/$1 game, $5s are always your workhorse. I don’t see how they would eventually become the workhorse when they are from the outset.

Blind chips should only be used for what they are named, the blinds. Having more than one rack is unnecessary and wasteful. I can see on occasion one or two of them being used for betting but as the pot grows bigger on later streets they won’t be needed at all.

3 racks of $1s is also not needed. 2 is plenty for a 10 person game but I can see some reasons for have 3 racks of them as opposed to zero good reasons for having two racks of fracs

Come play in my game and you’ll see for yourself lol we tend to barely see any 5s on the table at any point of the night. Maybe a barrel or two at the most.

Building a 98 Cash Set right now.
Currently have the following.
100-fracs with no denomination. Could be used as .25 or .50
200-$1
100-$5 currently buying more $5

I want some $25, $100, and $500 for baller looks, and a possible heads up tournament :)

I actually would prefer to not play in a game like that :)

Edit: that sounds like a limp fest, no raising, nitty, too many players get to showdown type of game where everyone relies on luck to have the best hand. I prefer to play poker lol

How many more $5s?

I think 200-$5 chips should be fine. ...I think.

That’s definitely workable but I prefer more $5s since they’re the real workhorse for those stakes. It also depends on how much you get on the table during each game.

I’d add at least 160-200 $25s and 40 $100s if you go with 160 $25s

Can’t really argue the fact that it does tend to happen a lot. It kind of rollercoasters between an all fold to a 3x BB up to 90% field calling on 15x BB.

For 25c, the answer is 123. For 10 players, 12 chips each is enough, and three spares.
For 50c, the answer is 103. For 10 players, 10 chips each and three spares

I prefer to have 200 fracs in my .25/.25 and up cash sets but never put more than 120 on the table. Nice to have full racks and in the event that I have two tables I can manage.

May seem a waste but moar chips and fracs tend to be harder to get than 1s and 5s.

Not a waste. I do the exact same thing. Even if I do not get a full rack in play I always have two racks available. That is why I keep thinking about culling my El Cortez chips. I am not OCD but I am getting that way. I’ve had less than two racks for years. All my other fracs and ones are two racks minimum.

quick question guys.

For a .25/.50 game and sometimes .50/1.00 game, how many quarters would be needed. I have 200 now. Let’s say 10 players:) Thanks guys!

Played .25/.50 cash for the last few years. My experience,

12, 16 or 20 quarters per person.

12 = Less chips on the table to deal with but everyone will be making change a lot more.
16 = The sweet spot.
20 = Far less change being made but more chips to deal with.

"Chips to deal with" = Counting chips, in play or cashing out.

16 x .25
16 x $1
$5's after that.
I do like getting a few more $1's on the table though for the first couple re-buys.

$20 - $50 at a time is the most common for us.

We make bets like $3.50, $7.75, $9.50, $12.25, etc, so the fracs in our game get used for more than the blinds as well.

The 200 you have now is

you need 96 for a one table 8 player game - 12 each. works for 25/50. I'd have 2 racks if you play a 50/1 game.

I am the OP and my set actually changed. No longer have the PNY chips. I have a 98 CDI cash set. Here is my breakdown:

100-NCV these can be used as .25 or .50 TBD at the start of the game obviously.
200-$1
200-$5
60-$25
20-$100
20-$500 will never use these lol they are just for fun:)

Solid set for up to 10 people? Buy ins ranging from $35 - $150.
