Blue Chip Company (BCC) back in business? (2 Viewers)

Order big from CPC while you can boys. If they shut their doors it is au revoir to the custom clay chip market.
Once again this makes me feel like I entered the game in the beginning of a new dark age for the home market. Makes me real sad because I see those pictures and my wallet opens up faster than some of my ex girlfriends...

....

Yeah, I think that's a good analogy.

would love so,
I have a bcc set on the sun mold I'd like to improve,
will sart a wtb in the classified soon,

Looks like chips are back in stock at BCC. ;)

CPC might be around another fifty years. Or they may close shop next. Just no way to know and there is no alternative for custom clays. Sad and scary to not have options. I always counsel people that make custom orders to stretch the order as far as possible. Someday you might regret not buying that extra 500 chips.

Then open up.

Shortly before you came around, CPC was out of the home market, and those were truly dark days indeed. Jim B of CPC (formerly ASM - Maine) had retired and sold the company to someone in Las Vegas that was largely incompetent. Money - big money - was shipped and chips never received. There were still some good sets in the ASM - Vegas days, but by and large the home clay market had died.

Then we were saved by a true chip-o-phile (David) who convinced Jim to come out of retirement and make chips, while David would manage the business end. Even then, it took some great honor on the part of Redbelly who acquired some chip making molds/cups and returning them to the rightful people, and group buys from people on PCF/CT to fund the repairs of molds like the FDL and the Scroll mold.

Watching people "play" with the chip design tool for months or years makes me wonder how foolish they can really be.

A fire would end all custom clay chips forever.

Buy now, buy often.

I definitely fall into this category. A few months ago I took on a 2nd job @ night that is helping my wife and I to pay down debts, build a savings and build a separate poker bankroll for the games and limits I want to play. After that is completed I'll finally be in a position to dedicate some income to a custom set. I may even sell off my CPS set around that time to help fund the customs because I definitely don't want to miss out.

At this point I'm still probably 6-8 months away from the chipset purchase.

Sorry to be a thread killer, but I contacted GPI today and all of the BCC assets will be used only for casino use, if at all. :(

If at all? Eh? Were the advertising chips just a limited print run to see if there was a market for the mold/brand?

I didn't ask about the advertising chips, but I assume that they were made for the same reasons that GPI makes any other advertising chips.

So in short, design a custom set, buy it and buy a lot while I can.

I'm down with that

How much is it for say 1000 CPC H mold chips with three edge marks? Roughly? Like 1500?

Probably closer to 2 dollars a chip based on the mold and markers I want. Still, not bad for top notch.

My budget for a planned custom 1000-chip set from CPC is $3500. Some folks around here have spent much, much more. High-level edge spots, special colors, shaped inlays, and some molds can drive up the price very quickly.

On the other hand, I have a couple of Paulson casino sets that are right up there cost-wise too.

Holy crap, I need to sell something :( Maybe a kidney? What are they going for these days?

I guess I could probably find a couple of grand (that's AUD, so like 50 USD) to put together a set. I think I need to wait until Christmas bonus from work, hope it's a big one, and hope that the CPC option is still available.

Sad to hear that BCC did not get resurrected. If I were a casino I would always go for the BCC clay formula over the latest PaulSon formula. The BCC chips quite a bit harder than the PaulSons and therefore hold up better than the PaulSons. This can also easily be seen on the garden city chips where PaulSons and BCCs are mixed. The BCCs are generally in a better condition. I think everyone who owns a BCC set can confirm this. Also I prefer their feel over most PaulSons. Some PaulSons that come close are the ones with metal flakes in them, like the New Yorker $25s or Ritz $100s.

For the record I don't think CPC is going anywhere! I just think when people are planning customs they think appropriately for the long haul. This option could very well be gone some day.

Another noob question here but has anyone designed a really awesome custom set design that a lot of people like and then do a group buy to drive the cost down? I imagine buying 50,000 custom chips in one go is cheaper than 1,000.

I'm sure someone will have this answer in like 13 seconds :)

Yes and no.

Sets like the CPS group buy saved members a bundle on china clays, and there have been GBs before that have worked to get chips made or made at a lower cost when possible.

Other chips, like CPC do not have a price break. For these chips made by hand there is no cost break. A GB isn't worth the time, unless you totally theme it out like the Key West set, with cards and other paraphernalia.
