Bourbon Basement Poker (3 Viewers)

Yussir - that was agreed upon by the three of us. What saves it is the starkness of the black. As long as there's a modicum of light - and you'd think there'd have to be in order to see the cards well - that black really helps to differentiate the chips. Note that we're only really concerned about the profile view - on their faces, the blue reads slightly lighter when paired w/light blue, and the light blue reads slightly "bluer" when paired with blue so differentiating the faces between the blue and the grey/black becomes pretty easy.

Imperial blue was suggested as a possible alternative to regular blue, but Bill decided he liked the regular blue as is, and I can't say that I blame him. DG Peacock also pairs well with light blue, but it also un-mutes the palette right in the middle of the workhorse lineup and I think he was trying to stay a little muted/more earthy for the whiskey/bourbon theme. Bill would have to have the final comment on that, though.

With these, the DG Yellow really makes the fiver sufficiently stand out. You're not wrong that a lot of their yellow/brown palette is similar, but when playing w/the samples & looking at the renders, I don't know that any of us registered any cause for concern here, save for not wanting them to be adjacent to one another in the denom progression.

@mike32 , pretty much this. The three of us discussed this at length. Scott took a ton of pictures using his samples to help me compare the blues/grays/ect...After several changes I finally found something that I liked, that appears playable, and at the same time fit the theme and feel that I was going for. I sincerely don't think I could have gotten here without Scott and Paulo's help on this.

Oh yeah, I also ran the design by David Spragg to gather his opinion on it with the 7/8th inlay. He thinks it will be fine.

Most of the credit goes to @p5woody . Dude is a genius :)

Good luck tonight. Take it down sir. If I wasn't going to Atlanta on WED I'd be in tonight. Colleen needs some "me" time as well :)

Thanks everyone for the compliments and critiques. Now I just need to sell the last 600 two dollar chips and I'll be good to go.

updated to here. Couldn't tag H/Q for some reason.

I'm going to give this until after I get back from the S@P meet up. Then I'll pm everyone with my paypal address.

The bottles will be so small they will be nearly unreadable. The ribbon text is so small, I had to move closer to my monitor to read it, and I have a 52" monitor (and old eyes, so there's that).
I might be of help to you ... reads delirium tremens :coffee:

Gorgeous set!

@detroitdad
Not sure how much trouble this would be, but consider this:

Look at the $5 chip. Background color on the banner and behind $5 is almost a match to chip color
That chip really pops. Wondering if he could match the banner color to the lighter color on the entire set. Like light blue on the $1, gray on the $20, etc.

I thought about this. I don't want to get into color matching with this set. I already have that with my sunsets. I do agree. I think the fiver rocks.

Best thing about this set... When Bill decides to sell, these customs will be easily find a buyer. ;)

My current sunset custom set is almost 1.5 years old. Long time for me :)

due to some comments on here, and in private conversations with a few guys I'm looking at a few other blue options. I still think its between the blue/light blue and the imp blue/light blue. I don't think the retro blue or dayglo peacock blue fits my theme or color flow.

I like the Peacock/Light Blue chip. Just have to decide if it flows with the rest of the set. The retro blue is awesome. I don't think it fits with the set even a little bit. My hot stamped set and my sunsets both have solid retro blue chips. Not in a hurry to add it to this set.

I think its between Blue/Imp Blue and Peacock/Light Blue.

The retro blue/Dayglo Peacock is awesome. I think it messes up the flow of the chips.

In that case, I think the Imp Blue / Light blue is my favorite combo for this set. The earthy tones and the quarter pies remind me of a bourbon cellar. Not a lot of light, and a lot of shadows. Stored underground with no windows anywhere. It's calm, relaxed and staid.

Peacock is like pumping Katy Perry music into that cellar - I'm not calling it bad, but it just doesn't belong.

Getting Katy Perry into your private bourbon cellar however...

@Poker Zombie bourbon is aged in tall barns not underground. It is rotated around in the barn over the course of several years so that it has different amounts of time higher up where it is hotter and then lower and closer to the ground where it is cooler as it finishes its aging process.

But the brown definitely is an appropriate color for the barrels and the bourbon itself.

Maker's Mark in now aged in cellars, instead of rick-houses. It allows more constant temperatures and a better beverage.

But otherwise, you're correct. Same principle though - earth colors, muted, nothing shocking.

The way bourbon should be.

I gotta stop reading this thread at work. I could really use a nice glass of Blanton's right now...
