Any of you Canadians have any inside scoop on possible border openings? I heard a few days ago that New York officials were pressuring Canada to reopen, at least for the CAN / NY border.

If the chips are on the ship now, I'm guessing a rough timeline of 30-45 days they'll be at my door. Just trying to get ready

Supplier told me 30-60 days. I don't know about the re-opening of the borders. Let's say you can cross the border, they will ask you why you are getting in, what would be your answer to that? I think that is the most crucial part... not sure if visiting a friend or tourism would do. Maybe visiting some sort of national park :p

I guess it depends if there are any stipulations when they open the border. Also now I'm thinking of how it will look to the border agent when I have that many boxes in my car

I mean, the current rule is that you have to quarantine for 14 days when you enter Canada, no matter how you get here... It makes crossing the border not worthwhile

I did the math a while ago so it's a little fuzzy but the international flat rate box direct from you isnt that much more than the end result using Canada post flat rate boxes. Canada post boxes are 5kg max so you're buying multiples. If you want some fries and gravy, cmon up, you might even get some free healthcare. But if your trip is just to save money, I'd take a closer look at the actual savings with the risk of getting jammed up at the boarder with a trunk full of freshly labeled "made in china" goods.

I've had troubles ordering a rack of chips from the US and having Homeland Security break chips in half looking for drugs...I wouldn't want to be the one behind the wheel with cases and cases of Chinese poker chips.

"Honest officer, they're from China and I just need to mail them to the friends I met in an online forum"

Yeah, the whole driving to Canada thing is looking less likely to happen. I'm preparing for just doing regular shipping from my house. I've started collecting all the left over packing materials from work, I should have quite the arsenal of bubble wrap by the time the chips arrive. I've also been stopping at post offices on my way home from work and grabbing a bunch of boxes and bubble mailers each time.

This is the current information I have from the USPS website on shipping to Canada

1-26-21

Canada Post advises that COVID-19 cases have been confirmed at a processing plant in the Toronto area. The Toronto exchange office continues to operate but with a reduced workforce. Disruption to normal operations and reduced processing capacity and clearance within customs operations are to be expected. Also, with further staff shortages, expect delays in processing and delivery of both inbound and outbound mail items.

Medium Flat Rate Boxes (Max. Wt. 20 lbs.): $54.65

Large Flat Rate Boxes (Max. Wt. 20 lbs.): $71.05

For the 20 lbs weight limit that is approximately 900 chips. But taking into consideration the added weight of packing materials the magic # is somewhere around 850 chips. More than that and it will need two (or more) boxes.

Yup, can confirm. Last I heard they sent home an entire shift of around 350 people to quarantine for 2 weeks. Basically, if you live in the Greater Toronto Area (like me) it's extremely likely that all your incoming and outgoing mail gets sorted there. Based on the delays I've been experiencing, the current backlog is at least a week, probably 2 weeks or more. Things don't seem to get processed in the order they arrive there, so it's varied a lot, at least for me.

I think you might have missed post #468 and #469. Go check and you will have your answer :)
Small bit of advice, the answer is actually
