Can't wait for these chips to arrive at my door! I've got all the boxes ready, mountains of bubble wrap in my basement, and 16 rolls of packing tape

I have a question for the Canadian members of this group buy. Any guidance/thoughts/experience with these customs lines that I have to input for the shipping label?

Should I choose "Gift" or "Merchandise"?

Description: should I just say "Poker Chips" or something more vague?

Value: I don't know exactly what you all paid, but should I just estimate with 30cents x quantity ordered? Or should I low ball it?

Thanks!

I would recommend the title "game tokens" toys.
As for value most insurance only covers the first $100 so up to you but gift or "nil" or something low like $50-100 value will result in the lowest customs on our end.

I usually put "Obsolete gaming tokens" and I've never had a problem. I put the obsolete in there to show they have no cash value...sometimes they're kind paranoid about money laundering, and mailing casino chips across the border would be a great way to do it.

Not sure how insurance works with the USPS...I always declare at full value to have the insurance, as Canada Post will insure larger value things. This may not be the case with the USPS. With the new USMCA trade deal (replaced NAFTA), things are supposed to be tax-free on import if they're under $150. For me in Canada, I do seem to get hit with import taxes when the declared value is over $150 or so.

One other thing to note, is that Canada Post's insurance doesn't cover "glass, ceramics, or other fragile items". I know ceramic poker chips aren't real ceramic, but I would recommend keeping the words ceramic and fragile off the box and item declaration, to be on the safe side. I recall reading an article a while back where the post office refused to honor a lady's claim because she wrote fragile on the box...

One other thing...USMCA only covers things made in North America. If you put USA as country of origin, we shouldn't have to pay import tax if it's under $150 CAD. On the other hand, if you put China as country of origin, we will almost certainly have to pay import tax if you declare any kind of significant value

Honestly, depending on insurance coverage, I would put 5-10cents a chip for the value. That is what most poker chips worth in everybody's mind (except ours of course).

All good feedback, thanks everyone.

I don't have to put the same info in for everyone, so if you have a specific way you'd like me to fill these out for your shipment send me an email

You should ask @SeanGecko how he filled out the forms for Canadian participants for his GB.

I received 1275 chips and paid $0 in any fees/taxes when my package arrived. Recipients shouldn't have to pay any tax for a reshipped package as there's no retailer/consumer transaction taking place here - it's just being reshipped.

If you lowball value and something happens (damaged/lost) the recipient is going to be hooped in terms of a potential insurance claim.

An update I forgot to mention because I was too damn excited when I got the tracking update:

The shipment is technically broken out into 20 different boxes. Currently 13 of them have a scheduled delivery of 3/22/2021. The other 7 don't have a date yet. I'm assuming that all the boxes are actually together, and the non-update on the 7 boxes is just a technical/logistically thing. But it's also possible that's not the case and the other 7 might arrive seperately/later. But I hope that's not the case. I am so *freaking* excited to get the chips and ship them out, you have no idea!
