Cards mold chip cashed in? (2 Viewers)

I wouldn’t bring a Tina $500 anywhere near the Aria casino.

My guess is someone at a poker table either topped off their stack with one or more of these or they had the real thing but when they got stacked they swapped out with a CM, leaving the other player to take the risk of cashing it in at the cage.

Have you ever sat at a poker table at a casino?

Once had a guy ask the table to spot him a buy-in and he would tell them where gold was buried. Was seriously trying to use buried treasure as collateral.
Was dealing an underground game. Drunk regular (good player but definitely had a habit) got a new player to spot him $200 for a "hot stock tip" after discussing investments. Half an hour later, $200 changes hands, and the drunk's giggling as soon as it happens, the trap had been sprung.

Beckons the new player closer so he can pass the tip, whispers loud enough for the entire room to hear "buy low, sell high, homie".

You've really thought this thru...is this just a guess?!? Didn't you just get back from Vega$ : )

Anyone who's seem cards mold in person knows the colors are never the same as Paulson's. It's not as vibrant and looks faded.

Also the printed on label would be so obvious.
That’s probably true if you are looking at them side by side but when you have a stack or a rack or pot full of chips it may blend in much easier.

Just got back from Vegas late Friday night and saw this story just now on YouTube (Miles to Memories Vegas vlog). I was like “Holy sh*t!”

I was at The Aria playing $1/$3 cash on Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday… no $500 chips at my tables of course, but I noticed a few short stacks of them at the $2/$5 table.

BTW, they were so busy in the evenings (all tables full and short staffed on chip runners), the dealer asked me 3 different times over 2 hours to sell $100 stacks of my $5 chips to rebuys or new players at the table cuz they were tired of trying to keep track of what was owed and to whom.

I agree with @TheRealTeddyKGB … Totally feasible in my mind that someone could have slipped a $500 cards tribute into a small stack and sold it to another player at the table, leaving them to take the fall when cashing out.

…. and until now, I never even thought about the possibility that I could have been the fraud victim by being given a fake $100 bill for my chips, either!

(random thoughts)

I don't see "tribute" chips, whether by Tina or not, as counterfeits and calling them such is just incendiary language (imo).

If casinos want to assign high value to clay, or plastic, discs then they need to ensure they have procedures in place to identify copies. This arms race is as old as time - technology improves and counter-measures need to be continually revisited/revised.

Attempting to pass off a "fake" chip in a casino is a pretty serious offense. I can see innocent people being caught up as described up thread though which needs to be protected against somehow as well. Buy your chips from the cage/dealer/runner whatever not from some rando.

If I wanted to defraud casinos with counterfeit chips, especially those casinos who use ceramics, I wouldn't be buying them from someone in China. If I was confident I could get away with it I would invest in the kit needed myself. The entry costs to enable me to print on ceramic blanks, including edges, is not that high relative to the potential "rewards". Organised crime is no doubt doing this already and they're not buying from Tina.

I foresee something worse. They'll get rid of chips altogether and thus have people throwing digital chips on screens.
Already happening. Someone posted a few photos of the digital chip stacks (cruise ship maybe)- easier for online players as well. But the thrill and adrenaline of spilled pots and splashing ships is probably something casinos want to hold onto to fuel the gambling addiction.

I think casinos also recognize the large amount of people that see video machines as rigged, especially when their luck turns sour.
The recent hack of MGM only fuels the fear that something may be going on behind the scenes while they play.

They experimented with electronic poker tables in Vegas several years ago, and they could not get rid of them fast enough. When I've cruised on ships with these tables, they are always empty.

A big part of the enjoyment of poker is looking at and talking to your opponents. When everyone is staring down at a touchscreen, it sucks the life out of the game, and no one wants to play.

I think if people are going to look at a screen for hours they would rather look at one that spins and makes ding ding ding noises. Maybe they could incorporate a mini slot game you could play while you are folded?

Have you played a slot machine lately? I don't understand a damn thing that's going on. I recently asked a slot-fiend friend if she really understood everything that was happening on those screens. She insisted that she did, but she agreed that most people probably don't.
Would your mini-slot game have 3 reels and 1 or 3 payout lines like a civilized game? Or would it be some unending grid of animation?

Shit I don’t know.
Maybe it’s a mortal kombat type game against the other folded players.
Maybe it’s poker tutorials

I would disagree with this.

Using copyrighted without the owner consent is.
It's the same as sport team shirts, ...

They are not tribute items, they are counterfeit and illegal (at least in my country) items.

Now, some might not see it "morally" bad, but technically, a lot of "tribute" chips using the same logo (or one that is close enough to be misleading) are counterfeit.

What a great thread. Wow, I gave up reading the depressing news and learn much more about life and art and crime on here.

Most modern slots are penny/nickle/dime that entice to you spend several dollars per spin and have a ridiculous number of paylines and winning combinations. It's confusing by design.

You get lots of spins where you win a little back - it's still a net loss but the bells and whistles make it feel like you've won. Occasionally you get an exciting bonus game where you do actually profit, but they're few and far apart enough that again, you're usually just winning back a portion of what you've already lost. They've really optimized these things to make you feel like you're always winning while you're really always losing.

If you understand that and you don't spend money you can't afford to lose, that's fine. I occasionally play them with my wife - it's the only gambling she really enjoys, and we do it to have some fun on those rare occasions when we're in a casino together. We know we're always going to lose, but that doesn't matter.
