China Clay Chips Comparison (2 Viewers)

This is what happens to the greens if they get played with a lot. And why I didn't buy this set.

Just curious how much and what type of use would these chips have compared to the ones above in post #89 that appear in great shape after just under 100 games.....

For comparison I put some Pharaoh's through about 80-100, six to twenty-four hour game days and a few of them had the odd nick but nothing close to these and sold in fantastic shape. My current used HSI $5's all look better than these 25's pictured regarding edge wear. All I can think of is an unpadded table, concrete floors and players that like to splash as a cause for so many gouges/chips.

The thing is I am playing with guys that are content with dice chips and they only play poker for the alcohol and the company. The chips are for me alone, and it 's not in my plans to upgrade to Paulsons. Ideally I 'd find a decent nice set and stay with it, I would maybe look into customs only if the game grows a lot.
However I understand chip sets are a rabbit hole. Once you go in, you never go out. I wouldn't want to keep buying more and more, but from what I gather noone has ever stayed in one set. Maybe dice chips aren't a bad decision money wise after all

I’m in the same boat as you. I got samples from Apache of the Casino Royales, Majestics, and Royals. At first I was kind of disappointed in all of them for a couple different reasons. 1. I was expecting something with a totally different feel than my dice chips and 2. Didn’t feel like casino chips to me. But I am a novice and don’t really have the eyes and feels for what’s what yet. After spending some time with them they all grew on me in different ways. I really just want a good looking chip with denominations and that are in my price range. I cant go spending 500 dollars or more on chips right now so I feel that Apache Poker is at the top quality and price of what I can afford. The best bang for my buck.

I have Nevada Jack ceramics for a tourney set and Pharaohs from Apache for a cash set. I am a happy with both sets for the price point I was willing to spend

The chips in post #89 are the Spirit mold chips that he says he has never (or hardly?) used. The chips he used for 100 games are his Greek Key mold chips which are very similar (my opinion) to Spirit mold and sometimes come with the same or similar colors.

Whirlwind (spirit with 4D14 edge spots and $ labels) - white ($1), blue ($10), purple ($500), orange ($1000)
6 Stripe (spirit with 614 edge spots) - red, green, black, pink, yellow

Perhaps so. I haven't played with the Spirits. I've been using the Greek (the Bay Area site called them Roman) for about seven years and they show little to no wear. Though I've probably used them less than 100 times in those seven years.

The edges aren't as sharp as the Paulson's but they don't look beveled or rounded to me.

I was curious so shuffled each stack of spirit mold chips 300 times.

Looks like not all manufacturers are the same. The square edges make them hard to shuffle and I think there is more rubbing and pressure against the edges.

Drop 10 chips (marked) into a pot of 40 chips (un-marked/pot chips) - atleast 100 times from 12 inches, weight the flea bites on the table too after since thats also part of the science

It's hard to tell how much pressure he's using, but I can't break it with one hand. You can see how my thumb nail and finger are turning white from the pressure. I'm trying to push the center with my finger and the edge with my thumb. Maybe I'm just weak.

Edit* With more effort and a slight change to the leverage points I managed to break it with one hand, but it was a little painful.

Boils down to durability on the sprint/spirit molds

Your milage may vary depending on the color. The only one that really broke so far are some of the BLUES they are the most flea bitten ones as well. The white and the orange have been pretty good so far. The set is currently sitting on shelf at a buddy's house due to the CARDS MOLD.
The 8V's are damn near indestructible comparatively.

Did you get this test from a manufacturers instruction manual? Do you sacrifice a chicken afterwards?

ASTM has several test methods for plastics that yield data you can actually use for comparisons.

Here’s a summary of some of you want to do meaningful, repeatable testing.

8Vs for the china clay win. But damn the Spirit molds are still the BEST looking CCs. Also I heard that the greens flea bite pretty easy too, but I don't think you have any of those.

Thankfully the real scientist is here, yes I got it from the manual. And yes, chickens and goats are sacrificed to accommodate the superstitions anyone may have. All practical!

Edit: an even cheaper repeatable method would involve something like dropping a steel ball-bearing through a tube onto a chip from an exact height. Wouldn't be too hard to use a calculator. You can find one online to use lol

But if you really wanted to be that guy testing dead chips that aren't really playable on equipment worth thousands - by all means, be our guest
