Controversial Chip & Poker Opinions (60 Viewers)

I have 5 tournament sets. Two are non denom. All but one have green :5 black 100 purple 500 so even though there are no printed denoms the colors are standard. The one non standard set has denoms but only on one side which would tilt others, but not my guys. Both cash sets have denominations on both sides so there’s no confusion because one has white $1 while the other has blue.

Is there a controversial opinion somewhere in there? If so, I missed it...

The OG Grand Casino set blows. As individuals they are all above average to excellent, even with the spilling pot of gold that looks like a log of shit... but as a set they are not at all impressive. And certainly not a GOAT contender.

This thread is what I feel chipping should be. People openly sharing ideas and being willing (if not asking) for people to disagree with them, expecting to be ridiculed without getting all bent out of shape about it... It's lighthearted, full of people's own truths and fun!

The CDI '98 inlays are absolutely abysmal. They look like they were designed by someone whose main job was making ransom notes by cutting out letters from old newspapers. The font size and placement are all over the place. The $1000 looks like the designer copied the $100 and added another 0 - only a bit too far away.

Imagine the feedback if someone posted these for a custom design review here on PCF!

I’d say tournaments are for more budget minded players, cash is fun but more expensive. The skill set is different but skill makes a difference in both.

However the pros are having a hard time getting in any good cash games anymore. I think it explains the increase in the frequent amount of high roller tournaments.

Tournaments are mostly for players who have budgeted for a certain amount to lose. In a tournament, only the top 20% or so will cash. Everyone else loses everything. Unless it's a bounty tournament and they get a small pittance for a knockout or two. So most go in with a losing mindset. Players who prefer tournaments have either already accepted that they will most likely go home with nothing, or for a small percentage, they know they are more skilled than almost everyone else, and they expect to bring down a top cash.

In a cash game, I don't have to be one of the very best players. If I can play smart, and play a little better than average, I can go home a winner over the long haul. Especially if you play in games with a whale or two.
