Controversial Chip & Poker Opinions (19 Viewers)

I’ve always agreed with one of your previous takes on this. People should have to list where they got the chips and for how much.

And if you’re gonna flip chips, at least pretend you’re a chipper and make up a reason why you got the chips and are moving on. Blatant attempt at thievery without conning is just sad
It's like everyone saying we should have term limits for politicians but it never happens.

Everyone thinks it's a great idea, but no one does it. And no one does it because it would put (enter a large number here)% of the site members on blast who would rather not be put on blast. Would've been great to socially enact something like: "Don't threadcrap if you don't always share initial cost of chips when selling, both publicly on site and PRIVATELY."

Controversial opinion:

I hate Tinas.

I know it's controversial because at the prices flippers have driven chip prices to, my next set of chips will be Tinas.
I'm in a love hate relationship with Tinas. It's a great price to get a set of chips I can't justify buying the THC version of. But having played with a couple sets. They just don't stack well from the few I played with.

$2000/rack? So what, charge $6900/rack, who cares? Most likely no one will buy it, and if they do, they deemed it worth it, and so should the seller lose out. And don’t pretend some naive chipper is spending $2000 on a rack without knowing what they are buying.

Is the outrage because it feels like intentional flipping? Can you not see we chippers change our mind all the time?

Is it because the last barrel bought was under $200/barrel? Do you know what he paid for the other 4 barrels? Don’t assume you know what he total he’s into these are.

As an Econ major, my prediction is these will sit because no one thought the last barrel was worth even half the asking price per chip. But he has the right to ask what he wants.

This guy has been on the site for a while and is not the iceman. Being over optimistic about the potential sale price doesn’t mean he deserves to be crapped on.

My "Devil's Advocate" response:

Multiple posts of "Item A" valued at "$X +$50" creates a misleading perception that A=X+50.

To complete the argument (where I think you are going): it's bad for the market because it could raise the price of chips based on nothing? Essentially chipflation?

If so, I can see that.

Someone should buy all the chips.

And then sell/list/give them away for free.

Then because everyone’s SO against flipping, every chip forever would be free right? We’d all just be buying/selling/trading at $0.00 per chip forever of course!

(Also, do dumba***** like me who lost money on chipping get a refund in this scenario? Tell me where I submit my application!)

I appreciate the lengthy insights from someone playing with them in person, read in full.

I have a sample in hand and I DO think the set is super cool overall, as I would consider all new clay.

You either die a hero or you live long enough to become the villian you hated. I'm a huge proponent of "you like what you like", but some chippers have likely ruined me in part with hammering into me complimentary colors, spot progression, etc. :vomit: Like, orange and purple are complimentary colors, fact, but a yellowing orange with browning purple/red hues? That 1% of me that IS a chipper just can't get there.

Then again, I love split spotted, slippery oversize inlaid BCCs (mardi gras v2). Lol make it make sense, we're all just a bunch of crazy mofos who love chips and poker. Much love and looking forward to getting to play with these on felt one day.
Hey, I agree that you (each of us) like what you like. Chips at this level are clearly a luxury item and not a necessity, so they need to check off enough personal boxes for a potential buyer to warrant a purchase.

Color is finicky at best and two guys at my first table with these chips saw colors differently due to different types of color blindness.

I think PCFers in general are tuned into lots of small details that are not even on the radar for non-chipper poker players and that's totally okay. We're passionate and opinionated because we care about nuances.

I hope we see more sets like this come to market. I know some people would love to see Paulson return to the home market with standard sets. I just know when we last had that we got weird molds, not THC. Lots of people didn't care for those at the time. We also saw weird denoms and odd breakdowns on some of the sets.

I would rather see more sets on THC (even though they're unleaded) that are put together by chippers and sold in reasonable, configurable, playable sets. I do prefer something that is not open-ended availability as that certainly adds to the security of the set.

there should be a section where everyone lists their “I don’t plan to sell but would sell these sets at this top of the mountain price” listings.

That way people who want to list their classifieds at thousands and thousands of dollars over objective market can have them there, and we don’t all have to post nice chips glws and have no public discourse (threadcrapping).

This isn’t specific to mapes, that’s just the latest one.

Plight of a custom sample collector:

People have samples from years past. Some, not all, were gifted or provided cheaply.

They are constantly listed for auction for max market value, because 2-3 people want them.

If you bid, you drive up price, making current and future custom creators not want to sell samples, since they’ll just be resold for profit.

So less samples are available, meaning worth more, and the few released will be auctioned later.

You can either not engage in auctions and miss out on customs, or you just grab what you can whenever you can, understanding that every year more and more people join the camp of “my customs are sacred and I refuse to share samples cause eff chippers”.

(This too is not a shot at any specific person, auctioning custom samples is very much the norm and has been for quite some time. Just came to mind as I’ve spent almost $1k on samples this month, and the number climbing. No shot at custom creators either, I’ve always said if I do a custom, no way I’d be letting samples go to everyone.)

Not really, but a limit on 5 active sale/auction/wanted threads at once per user wouldn't be the worst thing ever.

That has always been one of my main motivations for getting customs. Thank goodness CPC was purchased, so my dream can stay alive!

I know of a guy that drives sample auction prices up to unreasonable amounts because he wants all samples at any cost. Has been doing it for years.

It’s called vault week

But for reals.

We have…..people that buy everything so that they can say they have it all.

We have people that buy everything they see that they think they can make money on and partially control that aspect of the market.

We have people that buy everything and then make a huge show out of it, to the point of making a point on how they won’t share or show others what they have.

Like…I just really like people’s customs, think they should be displayed, and have been collecting them since I first loved Mamba’s Paulson relabels.

I may be in the minority (controversial opinion), but who auctions off a custom sample of chips, when the original owner doesn’t even have any extras?

I’m not sure there’s an overarching social/community aspect to chipping left.

People? All sounds like one person to me.
