Controversial Chip & Poker Opinions (56 Viewers)

Given the amount that some sets sell for, I am honestly surprised nobody has invested the $25-$30 for an airtag/luggage tracker.

Know where your shipment is until it gets to it's destination - where that chipper could sent it out with their next shipment. For frequent buyers/sellers, this almost sounds like a no-brainer.

I don't actually own any luggage trackers, so maybe they don't work as well as I suspect.
Recently had someone ship me an AirTag to put in the package they bought from me. Good move!

Recenlty a buyer had me ship the set including an air tag he sent me. I’ll be doing that as well in the future.

Registered mail is the way to go.

Yes. When I’m shipping, theres the amount of packaging that I know is enough, and then there’s the amount of packaging your typical insane PCFer (who keep their sets in waterproof shockproof trunks and their singles sealed in capsules) want to see. And since one of those crazy people now owns the chips, I try to overdo it.
You're good. I'm just reaching out to the other folks not in the Matrix. Letting you know that I, like you, am a normal, real human being. I don't own a blowtorch, just a touch of packaging in the sfrb.

Smartest thing I've ever heard.

I'd pay for that as the buyer or seller idc it's genious.

The only thing thats "controversial" is complaining about receiving your purchase safe & sound. I have received a rare casino mug broken because the seller put it in a box too small and used plastic shopping bags for packing material. I have twice received envelopes with a hole in it where the chips blew out (or were removed?) and once an unprotected chip broken in half. I too need to unwrap my items like a duct taped mummy, but I'd much rather need to surgically remove my chips from a bomb proof packing job than deal with getting a refund for something I really wanted.

Problem is, it's easy to damage the chips while opening if you can't see them and don't know how it's wrapped, how many layers there are, etc.

I am not normal because I do own a blow torch and I’ve used it to try to figure out if a chip is clay or plastic.

Ahhh LeGold...thats because you're too excited like a kid opening a Christmas present. You need to slow down and cherish every second

I do this with my luggage and my road bike when I fly, but have never even considered this when selling or buying poker chips.

As you say, given how much some sets sell for, great idea!

I love this idea. Keep them safe!

I drove 2,400 miles (round trip) to hand-deliver the goods in my biggest transaction.

At a certain point it’s worth spending a few hundred dollars in gas and a night at the Super 8 over risking high-dollar items through the USPS/FedEx and their insurance.

This is my plan for any future sales. I'd rather buy a plane ticket and an Apache case that I carry on the plane with me for anything over a certain amount.

Yup. The most expensive set I ever sold was sold locally, for a handful of reasons, but that was one of the biggest - I’m pretty sure I could have gotten more cash if I’d auctioned it, but most days I’ll happily trade money for peace of mind.

Faux shaped inlays are stupid.
I was about to throw a chair out the window until I noticed "faux" after.

Fair opinion. I have a harder time with them on compression molded chips vs ceramics as the latter feels like a copy anyway of the former. But also depends on how well the color match is too.

Yeah I’m talking about over labels on THCs pretending to be real shaped inlays. Blech. Wasn’t targeting your Tangiers!

So should I not even consider doing this for a cheap but cool tournament set?

Big difference between properly color matched faux shapes labels for a relabel set (which I think can look good), and the general faux shapes with mismatched background colors seen on so many paulson rhc chips straight out of the factory. Only those last ones are stupid imo

Love those!

I should have clarified - In general I personally don't mind faux shaped inlays, but non-color matched ones straight from the paulson factory do make me wonder (to Marius' comment). Just also see faux shaped inlays as a spectrum was my attempted point.
