Controversial Chip & Poker Opinions (59 Viewers)

2 things I don’t like about “dibs if split” …

If I am interested in a whole set or several racks if a few dibs hit that take some of the racks I am interested in I don’t want to be the guy that says dibs to all. Especially if seller has already started showing interest in splits or if people I know are interested in some of the racks. So it blocks me from getting chips I want and maybe prevents seller from getting rid of all that they were trying to sell.

I also don’t like the dibs, then later retraction. It implies that the split price is too high which can scare off other potential buyers. Especially when people take the extra step of saying “not interested “at that split pricing”. As @DirtyTIVA said, dibs if split is no risk, all upside to buyer but with downside to buyer.

I don't think it's necessary, but it wouldn't hurt. Although it is fair that a prospective buyer define how much they would be willing to pay dependent on quantity, condition, etc.

For example, there is nothing wrong with someone posting a Wanted Ad that said:

"Looking for Jack Detroit $5. Willing to pay $500 for 1-2 racks in minty condition"

or similar
Part of my reluctance to post how much I’m willing to to pay is that I’d like to pay cost, but I’m willing to pay market. It might sound insane, but with rare exceptions, I’ve always sold on PCF at my cost. I’m hoping the favor will be returned someday. If I say I’m willing to pay X, that’s certain to be the price. If I say I’d like to pay cost, I’ll probably be ignored.

Classifieds are now only 2 things:

1. "these chips sell regularly with a very well defined price point, here's my listing"

2. "b****hes be crazy, I'm going to list my set/chips/rack 20% higher than anything I've ever seen and see if it sells"

Sorry if you're buying/selling publicly via classifieds.

Of course, no matter what is posted, there can be negotiations after. I also mostly sell at cost, but if I get an offer that I think is too high above cost or market then I will PM the price down as necessary, no problem. It's a choice.

If you really want market price and you have something at least moderately in demand, then you're free to auction it as well.

When the good chips come out and are sniped within 1 minute theres a non zero chance theyre just doing it to leave feedback and there was never any chance that they were for sale to the public lol.

For anything desirable, I usually institute a lottery system for anyone that expresses interest within 48 hours or so. Anyone that makes their interest known commits to buy if their name is picked. Anything else is a non dibs sale and will sell at my discretion.

So in wanted ads should the prospective buyer list their offer price? I’ve responded to wanted ads, and when I asked what their offer was for my chips it was as if I had asked them to sacrifice their firstborn. I was met with post after post - from outside parties - saying basically that I was trying to cheat them because I wanted to know their offer before I gave a sale price. In their fucking wanted ad.

So there is a contingent here that thinks you guys are cheating scum for even thinking that a buyer should offer a price to a seller, because it puts them at a disadvantage.

It would certainly help.

When I see a wanted ad for something that has been sitting idle in my vault, the determining factor is what they are offering. If there is no price stated, I will not be reaching out, unless it's a chipper that I have had previous dealing with (either a transaction or have met at a meet-up). Anything else is on par with unsolicited ads claiming "we will buy your house", or "we will buy your truck" . Unless the unknown entity sends me an offer, they will not be buying my anything. It's not up to me to start the process, unless I want to unload the item(s).

I’m here anymore. I just ignore the wanted anymore and post my stuff for sale. Most are like this anyway

WANTED:
Poker chips, let’s see what you have! I don’t have a price in mind or any specific chips, but I’m looking really hard. Preferably something grail for dice chip money, and free shipping.

Show me what you have!!!

A high percentage of us couldn’t care less about feedback. Or likes.

Yea nice chips at a good price will sell instantly often. My feedback is real and unpadded, even if it does show a deep level of chip addiction and indecisiveness.

That sounds wrong to me. Folks playing at the level of grail sets don’t care about feedback lol

Yea I would venture to say we don't even see most grail set transactions. On the rare times they are listed publically I think it blows everyone's mind how expensive things can get.

Eh. The difference between private and public rare items is mind blowing.

I don’t have anything others would consider grail.

If I could publicly list my Adolfo’s (I can’t, fror), it would take about $15-25k to sell a set. It’s one of a 3 kind, can’t be found anywhere or ever again.

Privately? more like 15-20% of that price.

Same goes for my other sets.
Imagine if the forum had a feature where we could vote to assign titles to people. Who would be titled the crap peddler?
if we were allowed to do this I think that would fix the private/public aspect of classifieds now sucking.

Like, you don’t have to put someone on blast for an imperfect transaction or not digging the transaction. But if I could leave just a simple flag or tag on those exchanges, it would be great. (And people to me)

ITS WIERD TO ME THAT THERE ARE PEOPLE EVERYONE KNOWS NOT TO BUY FROM OR SELL TO, BUT ITS ALL TRIBAL/SILOED KNOWLEDGE.

Now I'm sitting here wondering what my title would be if this was a forum feature. I'm half expecting to be offended somehow haha

Right? I’ve usually felt like if you haven’t gotten a dibs within 5 minutes, either your price is too high or you’re selling crap.
Not that I disagree that some folks price their wares too high, as crazy as the sound not everybody is on here every day and I’ve certainly had cases where I’ve been off for a few days and something I’m interested in is popped up, or the thing I’m interested in has been so far buried in the pages in pages of for sale that I’ve missed it completely.

Whichever option, possible solutions you’ll come up with that already happened.

People buying whole sets because of “no splits” and selling remaining racks after, or buying set and sending pm to all people that dibs in the thread, or buying and reselling with 20% markup straight up. People throwing dibs on everything just for case to secure position and deter others; wherever they might end up buying or not.

Can’t prevent it, can’t control it. Absolutely free market on old capitalism basics.
