Hello everyone,

I have long been wanting a custom CPC set of chips for home poker games and now as they are closing I will be placing an order.

Ask: What denominations of custom chips would I need so that I could have one grail set of chips for both cash and tournament poker home games?

Players - 10 maximum
Chip budget - None
Cash / tournament - Both

To add a weird bit of additional complexity, I occasionally enjoy some casual Blackjack and would ideally like to be able to seat 6 players (+1 dealer) and utilise my chips for this too.

Thanks for your help.

You'll want 2 separate sets

Generally for a 10 player cash game set you want these denominations:

1 rack of blind chips
2 racks of workhorse 1 chips
2 racks of workhorse 2 chips
1 rack of rebuy chips (maybe including 1 barrel of a higher denomination)

Regarding workhorse denomination(s), .25/.50 has two ($1 and $5) where $1/$2 has one ($5).

Since you have no budget, I'd get a shit ton of workhorse chips vs. Higher denoms. Like when you sit down to play 2/5 in a casino with 100bbs, players start with a rack of $5s. More chips = more action and fun.

Your 10 player tourney breakdown is dependent on its starting stacks/rebuys (e.g. T20000, etc.), be more efficient than a cash game breakdown, and won't require as many chips as cash.

Search the forum for cash game and tourney breakdowns and you'll find more details.

I dunno about blackjack.

Welcome to PCF! TONS of helpful information is here and easily found. Literally nobody here is going to recommend one set to cover both cash and tournament for a multitude of reasons. Happy reading!

To be clear.. you can absolutely host a tournament with a cash set and wouldn't be too difficult if you also did a T.25 tournament with one. That said, if you ever want to:
  • Have a cash game and a tournament game the same night (cash game for those who left the tournament game)
  • Run a more "normal" tournament setup (e.g. T25)
You're going to want two sets anyway.

Get a CPC set with the best possible breakdown (and future proofed) solely around your most common game played IMO. But you could theoretically run a T.25 tournament pretty well (I like them) as long as you have a second cash set for those nights that wouldn't create mixing issues.
