De-smellifying China Clays (1 Viewer)

Well time will tell, but the CC plastic feels pretty hard/tough. I think they will last for years. I would be curious though what happened to the original Pharoah CCs because didnt those start to crumble in a short period? I wonder what material they had in them that resulted in such degradation.

I think most people on this site that would notice issues with CC's don't keep them long enough because everyone moves to customs or Paulsons etc. Personally I bought Milano's. Couldn't stand the smell and the inconsistent stacks even in the same denomination so I sold them and bought ceramics so they never even got put into play.

My CPS CC's have been holding up for a few years of monthly games.......and the only height difference was the T500s being thicker than the rest, but they were uniform across that denom, so it's been fine....
Definitely nothing like that Pharoah's picture above, yikes! :(

I'll definitely post in a week to update if the baking soda treatment is a temporary or permanent improvement.
If it turns out being just temporary, don't despair. I'll send you my address - you can ship them to me and I guarantee you'll never have to deal with that smell again.

Just a quick update on the smell test I was doing on those china clay samples...

After a couple of weeks in the tubes I can no longer tell any significant difference between the baking soda treated set and the untreated control set. So it seems in this limited test that the initial reduction in stank was temporary. :( Although they don't seem to have as strong of a smell as I initially remember so maybe it's just a function of time as some had suggested. Just put them in the open air on a bookshelf and let em breathe.

On the plus side, I've moved on to building a set of Paulson Starbursts instead of china clays (not because of the smell issue - just cause). So everything worked out in the end. ;)

Hope you found this experiment somewhat entertaining even with the anti-climatic results.
